Who: Peko Pekoyama (
perfectstrike) and Mabel Pines (
ineptus)
When: February 1st sometime in the evening
Where: Mabel's apartment!
What: Mabel's giving Peko some dating advice and practice
Rating/Warning: None that I can think of, will change if needed.
[She needed to get a few things before calling Peko to her apartment, so really it wasn't immediately after she was done with sign ups. But pretty soon afterward! By the time Peko's at the apartment there's something simple in the oven (with a timer set and everything!) for dinner and she's got the place ready.
The apartment's lights are dimmed a little, the dining room table has a nice table cloth and is set for two and Mabel herself is dressed up in a suit, hair pulled back into a bun at the top of her head hidden by a bowler hat.
The dining room doesn't matter right now though, because she takes Peko right to the living room where her easel is set up with a large skech pad on it.]
Alright, while dinner's cooking, let's start with the basics! We'll go over appropriate clothing, dating ettiquette, table and restaurant manners, conversation and how to end the date! I wish I had some fun acronym to help you remember these, but no matter what I did they didn't mesh well together.
[As she's speaking, she's writing these points down.]

Per Mabel's order, Peko's dressed up, though with her left arm still injured, it limited her wardrobe choices. At least her yukata is a little nicer than her plain blue one, this in shades of black and red with embroidered flowers. If she were going intentionally for a Japanese look, she'd have done a kimono, but, well, the obi would have been a little tricky to tie for her. Her hair, at least, she has done up in a bun, and she's wearing the simple, pretty dragon pin Hinata gave her for Christmas.
Peko's just kind of kneeling on the floor in front of the easel, trying to pretend like her head isn't spinning from all this.]
I... see. I'll leave it to you.
["It" being total faith in Mabel's teaching ability.]

We'll start here. What you have on is really nice, Peko! And your hair done up the way it is is really good too. You've definitely got some of the basics of dress already covered, but I'm going to outline a few other things for you too.
[Flipping the page up so she has a clean one, she's writing once again]
What you wear is really important! Especially depending on the kind of date you're having. If it's a dinner at a nice restaurant for example you'll want to dress nice!
[She's got two categories written down, separated by a line between them. "Fancy" and "Casual". Under Fancy is written "Dinner" and under Casual is written "Movies".]
If you're just going to see a movie though, you can dress more comfortably! I'll give you a few examples, so you're prepared for any date, okay?
[Fancy gets "Dances", "Visiting an art gallery" and "Going to a live play or opera" added underneath it. Casual gets "Walks in the park", "Going to the Arcade", and "Picnics" added.]

[Wait, wait, there are so many different locations for dates. Peko had no idea! She's still kneeling there on the floor, hands on her lap as she all but stares a hole in the easel. This... she didn't realize how far behind she was! At least it sounds like she's able to dress.]
Ah, I cannot go to any date location that would prohibit my sword.
[Important.]

[Mabel pauses her writing, staring Peko down for a moment and then looking back at the easel. Would...these places let Peko bring in her sword? The arcade clearly does...]
Have you been able to visit any restaurants before with your sword?
[The gallery would probably be out...maybe?]
no subject
[Peko that doesn't mean they're allowed, that probably means you scared the staff too much for them to try throwing you out.]
no subject
[She writes this point down too after crossing out "gallery".]
I'll make sure to ask the staff of wherever I end up sending you for your date for you, so don't worry about that at least! [She's got your back.]
no subject
[Right, the blind date... Peko's still not certain it's a good idea, but she needs all the help and practice she can get.]
Then, assuming the location and dress have been decided... what is the next step?
no subject
If you're going out with another girl though, you might want to do that yourself! For your blind date you definitely should, since you'll never know who's going to show up! [Just flipping the page and writing this down, with the examples given.] If you are bringing a gift, make sure to get it ahead of time so you are ready and on time for your date! That's another thing.
[Big bold letters with two underlines: Don't be late for your date!!]
It wouldn't even hurt to be early! Even if you're getting ready and you're waiting to be picked up, you should be ready to leave at the time you're expecting your partner!
no subject
[She's nodding along, brows still furrowed in thought as she tries to take that all in. Don't be late for a date, got it. Be prepared to accept a gift of some kind, though...?]
Um... what if one were to be the one picking someone up, though...? Say, if I were to... ask out a boy...
[No one in particular, just A Boy.]
no subject
I think usually the boy should still have something for you, but if you're picking him up there's nothing to say that you can't bring something for him too or even instead! The gifts can still be the same, though I know some guys wouldn't be crazy about getting a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates like you might get for a girl. So instead I'd go with something like a single flower! Especially if it's a rose, because that's very romantic. A single, long stem rose is good for both boys and girls.
no subject
[Yes, they're very romantic, but Peko doesn't think she has the courage to give him a rose. And hey, wait, would Kuzuryuu even want a flower...? Then again, most people might not think she would want one, either, but she did enjoy getting them while she was in the hospital. This has become a lot more complicated than she'd thought.]
A-are you sure?
no subject
[Alright, writing all of this information down.]
But if you want a good, traditional gift, flowers or chocolates are the way to go.
no subject
[She's not totally sold on it, but Mabel sounds like she knows what she's talking about. Peko frowns a bit, but just nods, clearly accepting it and committing it to memory.]
So pick a location, be ready for the appointed time, and be certain to bring a gift of either flowers or chocolate. What's next?
no subject
[Again flipping the page and writing these things out.]
If they want to keep things a surprise for you though, embrace it! Get ready to be surprised! That usually means they really want to impress you!
no subject
[Nice, light conversation... Peko's weakness. Talk about the location... how on earth is she supposed to talk about the same thing for several minutes? There's no way she can use that conversational hook for more than a minute or two.
She lets out a bit of a weird exhale, like a grunt of pain.]
I think that's impossible for me...
no subject
A habit she's picked up from Dipper.]
no subject
[At least she recognizes it?]
If someone speaks with me, I can answer, but continuing a conversation naturally...
no subject
[Let her help you!!]
no subject
Hardly the length of time to go from one location to another.
no subject
Peko, what's your favorite color?
no subject
[No hesitation, no question. That's an easy one that doesn't require any consideration at all.
...No progression, either.]
no subject
[She smiles, lifting a hand in a gesture encouraging her to reply with something else.]
no subject
[Wait, what. How is she supposed to reply to that??]
...Does it?
[Nailed it.]
no subject
[Back in your court, Peko.]
no subject
[Sou na no. It's less of a question to continue conversation than it is a polite note to indicate that she's listening.]
...
[Wait, hang on, she can do this.]
What is your favorite color, Mabel?
