[February 11]

Han needed to get out of the apartment. For some reason, his vision problems were worse there than anywhere else. Almost anything that had been there a long time kept vanishing. Down to his own clothes. And he did not enjoy being back in this position again.

Nothing too elaborate. Just work. For some reason, his work is still simple to see.

He briefly considers a bit of ViVID to destress, but just shakes his head when he arrives where he knows he's supposed to be but can't even find the door.

[February 12]

He's pretty sure he's figured out what everything he can't see has in common. Unfortunately, that means there is a hell of a lot that he can't see.

But he's been completely blind before. In battle, no less. He is not going to get some selective problems keep him from picking up something nice for dinner for the kids.

Trouble is, well, Leia accused him of making Valentine's Day up. And there are displays about it everywhere. That he keeps walking into.

The "Kriff!" gets louder every time.

Labrador is trying to get his mind off not being able to see any flowers, which made it impossible to do any work since he's a florist, when he comes across Han walking into a large Valentine's display of hearts and flowers (not that he can see the flowers, but at least he can see the hearts to avoid crashing into it himself.)

"Han...? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." He gets carefully to his feet, feeling around him for scattered boxes of chocolate. "All of this had lousy timing."

Though since it's still things that remind him of Leia, it was always going to be bad.

Lab moves to help him up. "Careful, there's chocolate everywhere... You wouldn't happen to be selectively blind as well, would you?"

"It's almost worse than being completely blind." He gets to his feet quickly. It's awkward to need help, but there probably is chocolate everywhere. "There are so many of these displays."

Labrador nods. "I agree. And in my case, it's made me unable to work since I can't see any of the flowers in my shop..." And he carefully steers Han out of that chocolate minefield. "Here. You're safe from the chocolate now. So... you can't see any of these Valentine's displays?"

"None of them. I think it's because they make me think of Leia." He cna't explain why that would cause things to disappear. But nothing here made any kriffing sense. "A lot has been disappearing."

"I see... so what else can't you see as I guess there must be even more things that remind you of her than just Valentine's displays? I have been hit with this strange affliction too. I can't see any plants or flowers now, even fake or printed ones." And that has him quite depressed actually, not that he's going to show it, since plants and flowers are his life.

"It's definitely a strange thing. The way everyone has something different happening." He shakes his head. "Half the apartment is just not there right now. But the worst part is the way Anakin keeps disappearing."

"I'm wondering if the things we can't see have anything to do with the things we hold dear. I've met someone who can't see books because he really enjoys reading and working with them. And a friend of mine who's an animal lover is currently unable to see animals... Who's Anakin?"

"It might be. Flowers mean a lot to you, I'm guessing?" Or this theory wouldn't get very far at all. "Anakin is our son. Sometimes he just gets this look about him and it's so clearly something he gets from his mother that he just vanishes."

"Yes. They do. They've been a big part of my life since I was born, plus I work with them. I'm a gardener and a herbalist. Ah! I see. What about Anakin then? Has he been affected by this blindness too?"

"No, but he keeps saying everything is cold to the touch. I'm worried he's going to burn himself." At seventeen, Anakin's probably with it enough to realizing things should be hot, but he worries anyway. It's a dad thing. "And his friend keeps complaining of music none of us can hear."

"I see... A friend of mine is suffering from the same thing... Everything just feels cold to her. I tried healing her and giving her various herbal remedies but nothing worked." It's okay, he understands overprotective daddies. He had one himself! "Music? What sort of music?"

"She didn't say. Just that it was really loud and started playing whenever she was trying to sleep. And, well, teenagers and sleep." Of course, he didn't really have to explain that part, did he?

"Oh, so it only plays when she tries to sleep? That really is a problem...? I wonder if she'd still hear them if she took a sleeping draught..."

"It's enough to keep her from sleeping." Which is a problem for anyone, especially a teenager. "I don't know if she's tried taking anything though."

An extreme solution, but the problem's not letting up on its own.

"I could make her something to help her sleep if she'd like to give it a try."

"Can't hurt. I think she was trying to use the Force, but it's probably time to look at the other options." And when Jedi needed a non-Force option, it was definitely a Situation.

[Jade Curtiss has been having vision problems as well - specifically, lacking an ability to see any technology. Despite this, he's on his way to ViViD as well to take on the challenge of the blind run.

That's when he sees that one man who seems to be struggling to find the door. The military man surveys him curiously; he's sure that he's seen this man around Luceti in the past, but Jade knows that it's unlikely that he'll recall. They never actually talked, anyway.

He may as well establish contact now. He pushes at his glasses and speaks with a vague coyness.]

Having some trouble, are we?

Hells, I think actually being blind was easier.

[Han manages to actually touch the handle. There's a satisfied look when he manages that much.]

[Wow, well done. Jade gives a smug smirk as he witnesses the man find the door; luckily, it's a normal enough door that Jade can still see it himself.]

Does this happen to you often? [It's not everyday when you meet someone who has experience with different levels of blindness.]

Only once before.

[He shakes his head.]

This makes twice too often.

And I imagine that three times would be exceptionally uncomfortable.

[He says that with a bit of snark before he goes on more analytically.]

But this case is not a total blindness; is that correct?

[It sounds like this man may have been afflicted with a condition similar to his own. But considering that Jade already seems to be capable of seeing something this man can't, he's intrigued by the idea of analyzing the difference.]

I'm still trying to figure out why I can see some things but not others. It seems to be worse around my apartment.

[A strange thing to make a difference]

Oddly, carpentry is fine.

So it only pertains to certain objects. [Just like him. But it certainly seems to be a different variation on it.]

It sounds like this blindness may be psychological in nature. If it is worse around your apartment, then it may relate to something personal.

Could be. Anakin says the family photos are still there. Same with Leia's clothes.

[He shakes his head]

Something strange is going on with him too though, poor kid.

[Leia. He has spoken to a Leia in the past in Luceti, and he wonders if it can be the same one.]

Oh? What would be the young lad's troubles? [It seems to be something family-related in this man's case, but he can't tell for sure how Leia and Anakin are related to his man just from that statement alone.]

Everything's cold to him. And then it started getting really strange. He'll touch something and it's like he's not even there. Even when I can see him.

[Which isn't all the time any more. He shakes his head.]

It was easier to solve his problems when he was smaller.

Butch can't help but stare. What the hell was that guy up to, running into display after display? He raises his eyebrows and pockets his lighter, then pulls the newly lit cigarette from his lips. "Y'alright there?"

"Kriffing candy displays are everywhere." They had been for a while. And the holiday was getting closer, so more and more were popping up. It was terrible timing.

You ought to memorize your surrpoundings a bit better, then you can avoid running into a few less things, at least. He doesn't say that but he thinks it. "'tis the season, or somethin'. They'll probably be removed once it's over."

"Maybe I'll manage to see them by the time it's over." He really hoped this was going to pass eventually. Because after a few days, he's sure selective blindness is actually worse. At least when he was totally blind he knew that he wasn't seeing things.

"Or that." He shrugged. "Ya goin' anywhere particular?" That's an offer to help him get wherever that might be safely.

"I need to pick up some groceries. Just because my kid keeps flickering out of visibility doesn't meant I won't make him dinner." Some responsibilities persist no matter what, after all.

"Ya're right about that." Not seeing someone didn't mean you could pretend they're not there. "Want help 'round?"

"Probably a good idea. It was easier, with Chewie." Of course, most things were easier with Chewie. Wookiees made many things to smoother.

Interesting name. "Friend'a yours?"

"Been with me a long time. He's been my first mate for ages. No one does friendship like Wookiees." Especially with life debts. But that was one really long story.

"First mate?" Ya a sailor?" Look, the adventurer in him is super intrigued. "Wookiees're a kind'a people, I take't." Also, he doesn't mind long stories.

"Big, loyal, hairy people from Kashyyyk. I'm... well, another long story. These days I'm a stay at home dad. Before that I was a general, and before that Chewie and I were smugglers. Space." Important to clarify that detail, in his experience.

Butch doesn't bat an eyelash hearing Han used to be a smuggler. But he has no reason to; he's a bank and train robber, after all. "That space travel thing I've been hearin' of since this place?" He had never even given things like that a thought before. "Sounds interestin'."

"Yeah, it's pretty normal where I'm from." And had been for millenia. It had been strange to be surrounded with pre-spaceflight people. Still was, really. "It gets pretty exciting."

"It's unheard of where I'm from, but machines're really exciting." He doesn't know a thing about cars or planes or anything, but he does know a lot about 1800's trains, though.
