[OPEN] did you miss me?
Who: Tenka aka "Dad Extraordinaire" (
sunshrouded) & ALL OF Y'ALL TBH
When: Sliiiiightly forward-dated to 2/15, so right after the Nexus Code event!
Where: assorted... Kumounji House & entertainment district mostly!
What: Guess who's back (back again), Tenka's back. Tell a friend. -- also he fulfill his dream of becoming a Sidequest Dispenser.
Rating/Warning: just your usual brand of tenka idiocy, maybe some tears, probably some punching
[a. closed to kumounji house residents ; farts back into existence]
[Tenka doesn't have a calendar in his room.
Why would he?
But what he does have, when he materializes in his futon, wearing the same robe that he went to bed with, is a vague feeling of dread. He went through a weird sequence of dreams, he thinks. Sitting through that powerpoint again and then -- after that there was a weird space where he could walk through entire buildings. Where he started to feel... intangible again. It was remniscent enough of the time that he lost his body that he felt chills.
Yet his preoccupation with himself was short. After all, Shirasu was there.
Shirasu was there and wasn't there all at once -- he was in that space, unresponsive even as Tenka yelled at him and tried to punch him. But there was no returning punch, no weary purple eyes, not even a motion of acknowledgment. He was well and truly there and.... not.
So Tenka is tired as he walks out into the living room then, settling himself at their low table and slumping over it, just as he would've three weeks ago.
His first word upon his return:]
Teeeeaaaaaaaa.
[ . . . . . well?]
[b. semi-open to adoptees & others ; emerges from the void for noogies]
[Most people just knock or ring a doorbell. Maybe knock three times in small bursts if they're feeling antsy. But here's Tenka, banging on the door instead, complete with yelling:]
Heeeeyyyyy!! Is anyone in there?! Hellooooo?
[At least it's a voice you probably haven't heard in a while.
Someone clued him in that he's been gone for 3 weeks. So he's got about 3 weeks of visits to make up for, he thinks.
(Punch him.)]
[c. OPEN ; tell me what you see ]
[If nothing else, you might've seen this guy's face around. Yet he appears to no longer be Missing and is instead sitting on a bench somewhere. He seems to be puzzling over something very, very deeply. Feel free to bug him if you know him when he's still in the middle of his work of art (which consists of nothing more than a few brush strokes).
Because otherwise he's going to sit up suddenly and thrust out the page to you. It's definitely the kanji for 'lake'. But here's time for messing with the language mechanism and/or an impromptu Rorschach test:]
What does this look like to you?
[What a quack.]
[d. OPEN ; quest master tenka, disaster in the making]
Hey, you!!
[Doesn't that sound like a promising start to a conversation....
Alas, escape is futile as Tenka completely messes up the rhythm of the closest person's day as he steps in front of them and offers them the sunniest grin. (Don't trust it.)]
You look like you've got some free time. Think you can help a guy out with something?
[Sidequest: start!]
[e. choose your own adventure, hit me with anything, i can take it! ]

No, wait. It may have been almost exactly three weeks since she had last heard that voice, but she recognizes it immediately. Unfortunately, with the strange glitches of the last few days... she doubts it can be real. It wouldn't hurt to check, though, right? On the off chance it is real?
So when she does finally open the door, it's with a less-than-welcoming glare. Even for as much as she wants it to be true, she's still not going to accept anything less than the real thing.]
Prove your identity.
[PEKO PLEASE...]
[1/2]
Huh?
no subject
He pats himself vaguely? Um. He doesn't exactly keep an ID on him.... he's the bartender, normally he's asking other people for their IDs.... What does Peko want from him....
He nearly gives up but then glances back and THAT'S A REALLY SCARY GLARE. From another man even one two feet taller than him, Tenka wouldn't be scared of a glare. But from a girl? From any girl a glare like that is lethal. He keeps feeling around his person before he seems to find something tucked away in his back pocket?!]
Oh! Oh!!
[And with that, he flashes the metal war fan that he uses to fight with -- that's also imbued with the Kumou family crest on the back.]
Here! How's this?!
[ . . . . ]
Though the idea of someone impersonating me really is kinda scary.....
no subject
Still doesn't completely clear her suspicion, though. She does look at the fan, then back to Tenka, expression still as severe as ever.]
How do I know you are not just an apparition sent by CERES as another form of torture?
[At least she thinks highly enough of Tenka that the prospect of him being used against her as torture is a possibility in her mind??]
no subject
[Tenka.... Tenka, that's probably not what she means.
But no, the fan was honestly his best shot.
SEND HELP, HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS LEVEL OF PARANOIA. Also he's kind of offended.
Leave a kid alone for three weeks and suddenly they think your visits are torture.]
no subject
That's not it.
[Maybe originally she'd thought his visits were useless at best and annoying at worst, but it wasn't until he'd been gone for weeks that she realized how much she actually missed having him to talk to. Finally meeting Soramaru and Chuutarou had helped, a little, but they hardly know anything about her. Certainly not as much as Tenka himself does.]
I want you to be back, but... how do I know this isn't a trick?
[Peko, he doesn't have any answers to those questions. Let it go. Accept the aniki back into your life.]
no subject
If you want.... you can call Sousei? Or Hinata-kun -- I've paid a visit to him already. They know it's me. I woke up this morning in my bed after some weird dreams, wandered out and waited for tea, and then had everyone in my house tell me that I was gone for three weeks.
I can't ask you to do much but trust me, Peko-chan.
[And he meets her eyes evenly then, offering her a tentative smile.]
But if you don't want to right away, that's alright. I'm sticking around now. I promise.
no subject
[Her voice is quiet as she stares up at him, but... Hinata is an eternal optimist. If she wants the truth from someone who knows Tenka well, that narrows her options down to one person.
She's still staring at him suspiciously - but behind the suspicion, it's obvious that she really wants it to be true. She just can't, she just can't let herself accept this so easily. Where she's from, people don't just come back from disappearing. "Disappearing" means they're dead, or worse. She'd seen Souda's and Hanamura's corpses in the Code, after all...]
Just a moment.
[And she actually. Pulls her phone out of her pocket to try calling Sousei.]
no subject
After hearing about everything that's been happening lately from Sousei, he supposes the suspicion is called for. They just had another experience that led everyone to hear things that weren't really there or even lose sight of some things -- seeing people who aren't really there might be another one.
So he just shrugs and he figures who she's probably calling since there's only one person here who a) knows Tenka that well and b) is familiar with Peko (as far as he knows)]
Tell him I say hi.
no subject
[It's a very brief conversation with Sousei to confirm that yes, this is Tenka; Peko and Sousei both very good at getting straight to the point, and the whole conversation is concluded in less than thirty seconds.
She does tell him that Tenka says hi before hanging up, though, and finally, the tense set to her shoulders relaxes.]
I... please forgive me.
[She's been burned too many times by accepting that CERES won't hurt her to just passively accept it. There's no smile, even as the harsh glare softens somewhat, but she does open the door more widely.]
Would you... like to come in?
no subject
[That much he says rather immediately, with a genuine smile. If anything, he's glad for her self-preservation instincts. It'll be good for keeping her, Kuzuryuu, and Hinata safe. Maybe even Sousei too if that guy will actually let someone else watch his back.
But he takes the invitation easily, stepping into Peko's place without much hesitation. Though when the door closes behind him, he does turn to throw his arms around her in a hug first. He knows that she doesn't always appreciate the physical touch, but it's always been Tenka's specialty. He doesn't know how else to express his sorry he is so entirely.
A second later though, he does add:]
I wouldn't have left if I had a choice. Just know that.
no subject
But as usual, she stiffens at the unexpected hug. She'd actually been considering hugging him herself, once they were out of the hall, but... this is fine. When's the last time she'd even been hugged, anyway...? It was almost definitely by Tenka.
The hospital doesn't count. That had been necessity, not because she wanted to, and it certainly hadn't made her feel safe like this.
Her shoulders slump as she relaxes completely into his hug, her hands coming up to just loosely hold the back of his clothes as she buries her face against his shoulder.]
I know. [Her voice isn't much above a whisper as she tilts her head to make it a little easier to keep her face against his shoulder without messing up her glasses.] I'm... very glad to see you again.
no subject
Sometimes, these kids really do need him. It's different with Peko than it is with Hinata. Hinata gives into Tenka's demands, calls him aniki just to make him happy, and otherwise settles into their little family neatly. Peko doesn't even manage to be that open.... and yet here she is, returning his hug.
So he just tightens the hug for a moment then, reassuring her that he's there. He's there and he's solid and he's not going to let any more harm come to her if there's anything he can do about it.]
Me too, Peko-chan. Me too. [Even if his own memories say that he saw her a few days ago, he knows that's not true.] But I'm not gonna go anywhere anymore, alright? I'll be just a phone call away.
no subject
[The most half-hearted protest to being called -chan. Really, Tenka's the only one who does that, so she isn't as opposed to it as she might pretend.
But she nods in response to him just being a phone call away. She knows he can't control not being here, just as she knows that it's an empty reassurance; there's nothing that can really be done. But while he's here, if she needs him... she'll call him.]
Do you remember anything from the time you were gone...?
[But to business. She loosens her hold and tries to pull back to meet his eyes.]
no subject
This is hard for him to process still though. ]
Not a thing. As far as I know, I just slept one night and then woke up today. Had some weird dreams, went through the presentation thing again, and then I woke up.
But then everyone told me I was gone for weeks instead..... it was a rude awakening, you know?
