Who: Ciel Phantomhive and Oz Vessalius
When: Generally today
Where: Around their apartment!
What: Ciel and Oz take their birds for a walk. Exactly what it says on the tin and exactly as stupid as you'd expect.
Rating/Warning: dumbs
[ At this point, he really shouldn't be surprised. He shouldn't question how these things happen, because they simply do, and Ciel is absolutely powerless to stop them. Still, though. He would say he's used to a bit of oddity in his life, but there are always new heights to aspire to, and Ciel is pointedly not happy about that.
After all, when Oz had suggested taking their birds for a walk, Ciel had found the idea so completely ludicrous and nonsensical that he had staunchly refused. For a week, in fact. Birds didn't need to take walks, he had said. They're birds.
And yet, here he is with a leash in one hand to walk Oz's stupid dodo, and with his arm out to let America's stupid eagle perch on his gloved hand in the other. The eagle has a leash too, but it seems pretty content to sit for now. Ciel is of course looking sour, since it's his default state of being, but he's also be slighted by his own owl once again, since Lawrence had pointedly chosen Oz.
He glances over to Oz with an expression that very clearly says "why did you make me do this," and his tone carries that same message. ]
Are you happy now.
[ It's not even a question with how he asks it... Ciel is the eternal Mr. No Fun Allowed. ]

Are you happy now.
[ It's not even a question with how he asks it... Ciel is the eternal Mr. No Fun Allowed. ]

He's also not looking too fazed by the lingering water damage because HEY, they're fine, their apartment is fine-ish, their CyBuddies are all fine! Even Darren, miraculously... And that's a good enough reason to not be down in the dumps, okay! Especially since he's one of the lucky few to not be experiencing weird side-effects, beyond the strange dreams, so he's got just as much energy and vigor as ever.]
I think the better question is, are they happy? [He gestures fondly toward George the Menace for emphasis.] They are! You can tell too, can't you?
[And clearly that makes this whole ordeal worthwhile...!]

[ Harsh... But true. Darren is oblivious to his constant life of danger just as much as he's oblivious to the fact that Ciel is his almost constant savior. Ciel always thinks that next time he'll just let it off itself, and yet his soft moe center can't allow it every time. It's a constant struggle.
George, on the other hand.
Ciel gives the eagle a dubious look, since Ciel and George have a much more difficult relationship. It resembles the sort of relationship that Ciel had with George's first owner, really, which is why Ciel expects George to antagonize him at any moment. Of course, the eagle probably doesn't think of it as antagonizing, but that's where the resemblance truly shines. ]
...He's not being a nuisance, at least. That's close enough to happy.

[Even though Oz thinks Darren is dumb too, and therefore isn't actually concerned about his feelings being hurt... Even if it probably looks like he's really chiding.]
But it's a good thing that they're all in good moods, right? They need to get out of that apartment more. Being so cooped up is probably bad for them...
[THEY'RE ROBOTS... But whatever!! They're bird robots, so Oz is sure they appreciate being able to feel the wind in their feathers. Almost in response, Lawrence flaps his wings and moves to re-roost on Oz's head.]
no subject
...I don't know if it really matters. They're made to be like that, right?
[ Ciel nudges Darren with his foot as he starts to eat a rock, and Darren at least squawks in acknowledgement and waddles ever onward. ]

Oz waves his hand somewhat dismissively, careful not to spook Lawrence even though Lawrence is unspookable.]
That doesn't mean they like it! ...Probably. I'd imagine they're the same as any other bird outside of the part where they don't eat.
[ugh poor Darren... Oz looks at it with Eyes Of Sympathy for a second before turning his attention forward again.]
Ah— It looks like the road is still a little flooded up there.
no subject
[ He makes an irritated little sound, since Ciel is incredibly stubborn and set in his ways, and so he'll never exactly be happy here. Is he happy ever, though? It's arguable.
Darren at least happily starts to bathe himself in a puddle as they stop, even though the water isn't the best for a digital pet. Ciel doesn't try and stop this, though, since he's at least learned that the stupid bird is more or less waterproof, even as little sections of his holographic feathers will briefly glitch out. ]
Still? Shouldn't they have fixed that by now?
no subject
Do you think so? I think that a lot of things are much easier now. [Like laundry! And cooking! And property maintenance...! And buying things... Actually, the convenience of the future outweighs the downsides to Oz, but it's Oz, so that probably isn't surprising.
Watching Darren roll around in the puddle...]
They haven't really fixed anything, have they? I mean - the reconstruction effort is entirely from us. ["Us" rather than CERES. Ciel has probably been subjected to Oz keeping weird hours lately because of course he's part of the restoration effort...]

[ Ciel's reply is... about what you'd expect from Ciel, really. But it's less barbed with his usual sort of bitterness, and it sounds much more factual when he says it. To Ciel, it does seem quite factual. Even beyond his petty displeasure with the place, he lacks any kind of trust in the people in charge. ]
Hmph... How is that coming, by the way?
[ because you know damn well ciel isn't helping ]
no subject
It's going pretty well, I think! We've cleaned up a lot of the residential area. The school should be repaired soon too, and the gym. Those are where most of our efforts have been.
[It's still kind of a slow-going process, even then.]
Unless something goes wrong, we'll probably have everything fixed up by the end of the month.

[ Ciel the eternal optimist is always here to brighten your day! But actually, in his way, he is trying to be helpful here. For most people, that wouldn't exactly be apparent, but Oz knows Ciel well enough by now that he can probably tell that he's actually giving this serious consideration as some of business, even if he's harsh about it. It's Ciel, so he doesn't know how to say things nicely except to girls, and even then... ]
Do you have any contingency plans in place? You're fixing things up to last instead of just patching, I assume.
no subject
But he actually does understand that this isn't just him being a grump about it, at least, and so he gives it the proper amount of thought in return.]
Right - we're fixing everything up properly, since we have no idea when CERES will come back at this rate. It's a little nice to be able to do it ourselves, anyway. [Because honestly, relying on CERES for literally everything makes him uncomfortable with what they've seen of the company.]
...But for contingency plans, I'm not sure. There isn't much we can do if they decide to flood the city again, even if we did try to come up with a plan. With CERES missing, it's a little hard to predict where the next problem might come from, too.

[ He huffs, then nudges Darren along, at which point he squawks, but remembers to not drown himself, so he starts to waddle along again. ]
That's part of why I wanted to own my own housing. [ ...And because his personality was too terrible to do what he really wanted. But let's ignore that, since Ciel certainly is. ]
no subject
But for now, that seems like an answer that aligns with what he knows of his crazy paranoid roommate, so he just nods and carries on, too. Lawrence hoots once, watching Darren with judgmental owl eyes.]
It would be best if we could start with everything from scratch, I think, but that would be too much. [Too much work, too much money, too much to ask of the people here.] Oh— But I've heard they're making a lounge! One built entirely from scratch. I don't think any technology will be allowed inside, either.
no subject
[ Ciel don't sound so surprised at other people having good ideas, that's rude. ]
Who had that idea?
no subject
I think it might have been Natalia. She's the one who was organizing a lot of the reconstruction efforts, anyway.
no subject
[ That it's Natalia, he means. He doesn't know her very well, but just hearing and seeing what she's done, it makes sense to him that it might be her idea. Of course, she is a girl, so he's also a big fat tsundere about it, but. What can do you when Ciel's involved... ]
Well. If it's her idea, I wouldn't mind lending some of my support... [ wow good job ciel you're being minorly not selfish for once ] Simply with logistics, though. The actual work isn't suited to me.
[ there's the catch ]
no subject
I'll let her know, then! You can come to the meeting area the next time we get together if you want. We plan out things that need to be done for the day, so you'd be able to help a lot there.
no subject
[ But that greedy, punkass response is stopped midsentence as George lives out the spirit of his original owner by deciding he Does Not Care about this conversation. He spreads his wings, which baps Ciel in the head and gets him to squawk indignantly, but it's made worse as he starts to try and take flight. ]
Augh!! [ that was a charlie brown augh ] No! No, dammit, don't try and fly now you stupid bird! Stay!!
no subject
The charlie brown augh is enough to get his attention to snap right back, though.]
Oh—! [IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S TRYING NOT TO LAUGH.] Calm down, Ciel! George always comes back, so you can just let him fly for now. It'll be fine.
[But, as all famous last words go, it won't be fine... Because George doesn't just take flight. OF COURSE NOT. No, George hooks his talons into Ciel's jacket and starts to take off with him... Which Oz doesn't think is a big problem at first! Sure, Ciel's small and George is huge, but it's not like a bird can carry a kid away, right??
WRONG. A CyBuddy bird might just be able to...]
no subject
No! No, no, no, let me go you damned stupid bird!!!
[ You know what George doesn't listen to at all? That. So he starts to flap his wings, and Ciel is taken a little higher into the air.
Darren is also just dangling from his leash, seeming to be enjoying himself. He's flapping his tiny little wings like he believes he's the one flying... ]
no subject
But oh, right, Ciel--]
Hold on, Ciel! I'll get you down!
[Or he'll try to, but George is carrying Ciel further away from his grasp... Lawrence is just hanging out in the meantime, not looking too bothered by all of this ruckus.]
