![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |

at least he doesn't mind the company. yuri listens to what komaeda has to say... and he can't totally disagree. they are cute. but more importantly.]
They made it sound like this was going to be a pretty big threat. Guess it does open up the option of things getting messier later. [but yuri's got no experience with ViViD, so it's not like he really knows what to expect here.] That, or it'll be just like this and we're being deceived.
[whatever it is, he's not exactly letting his guard all the way down yet, even if he's enjoying time with the pups.]
no subject
With this place, you never really know. CERES has managed to throw some pretty terrible things at us -- though usually they claim it's accidental. So far this seems less threatening.
[A laugh though and he shrugs.] Total deception and it all being perfectly innocuous is pretty likely too. Have you just arrived?

[clueless is kind of a loose term; he paid enough attention to the powerpoint, despite being in a slightly confused haze. the technobabble was a little much, but he got the general gist of what was going on—or what he was told was going on.
it still kind of seems dubious at best to yuri, but that's a matter that can come up soon enough.] Sounds like you've got some experience with them, though.
[which begs the question of how much experience, how terrible things get, and how often these things happen. there are a lot of questions, actually, but he'll take things one step at a time.]
no subject
He's quick to nod though.] That's right! I've been here for a couple months now, so I've seen the way they tend to work. Actually, so far this isn't so bad. No robots or clowns trying to kill anyone. No giant bug monsters. [Those he only heard about, didn't see since he didn't log into ViViD that go around.] And no dragons. That's what we had to deal with when I first arrived.
Though the robots and clowns were in the actual world, not in the virtual reality.
no subject
he probably looks a little confused by it all, but yuri's still trying to take it in as much stride as he can. it's not like panicking ever gets anyone anywhere, and it's not going to get him back to terca lumireis any faster... at least, that's how it seems.]
Alright, so there's a lot of things trying to kill us most of the time there. Both in this... virtual reality thing and outside of it. Good to know. [he's already picked up on the fact that the technology is pretty different than what he's used to, or he'd be questioning why some other measures aren't put in place.]
And I'm guessing that probably means we'll run into something eventually that isn't too friendly.
no subject
Some of the time anyway! Most of it they seem to pass off as glitches and mistakes, but it's definitely starting to be a pattern.
[But oh! There is that!] At least in this game, anything that kills you won't really kill you. You ought to wake up in the real world just fine.
no subject
there can be questions about the finer points of it later. for now, he really just wants to make sure he understands the most important stuff in the present, and the things that are important to his immediate survival.]
Weird stuff happens here, no real consequence. Weird stuff happens... out there, and it's the real deal. [he repeats it back mostly to make sure he's understanding it correctly.] Got it. I think I can handle that much.
no subject
It's tolerable. It may be hard to trust CERES for all the things that happen here, but I've seen worse places.
Though it would be better if we were all where we belonged, of course.
no subject
[confusing, strange, and a bit messed up? yeah. but really, what place isn't. it seems like people are getting by and surviving just fine in a general sense, and that has to count for something.]
Not gonna argue that it'd be better to be where we belong, but it doesn't look like that option's gonna be on the table for a while.
no subject
Mm. Then have you heard the reasons they tell us for bringing us here?
[The ones that he does not believe all that much at all, that is.]
no subject
(you know, until he started raking in the gald from traveling the world and kicking the crap out of both monsters and people. but hey, that's a different matter entirely).]
I heard 'em. Not sure I believe it, but I definitely heard it.
no subject
I don't trust it myself. Even if it's true, there has to be more we're not being told.
[But Komaeda has gotten paranoid after all his experiences -- a thing that just gets reinforced when his paranoia gets rewarded and turns out to be justified.]
no subject
[his experiences with the empire had taught him that much. sure, there's a possibility that it's not like that—but yuri's jaded enough from that alone to remain wary. there are a lot of similarities at play, even if he doesn't know the finer points of what CERES is up to.
the fact that komaeda seems to agree with him here only hammers the point in that his suspicions probably aren't unfounded.] Whatever it really is, if there's something else... I get the feeling there's a lot of work that's gonna have to go into uncovering it.
no subject
[Yes good. More people who are in the suspicious cynics club. Komaeda is just put out that he hasn't gotten far in his investigations here. He's been blocked at every turn so far.]
So far I don't think anyone's gotten very far in figuring it out. Though people are trying, I think. [He is anyway. And so is Hinata, after all.]
no subject
[not that komaeda doesn't, but it's a little more reassuring to hear that people aren't just sitting there with their thumbs up their asses while something is clearly amiss. that's better than probably could be said of a lot of other people in a lot of other situations.]
The bigger the problem, the longer it's gonna take to even start to crack it. Who knows how many people it'll even take—kinda seems like we may be in a bit over our heads here.
[maybe? the technology alone is enough to make him think that it could be that way. but yuri's also sure other people get it more than he does. not that it matters, even against the lowest of odds, he'll put in his own efforts.]
no subject
[And he supposes that the answer to that could be cooperating with CERES and undoing the destruction or rebooting the universe or whatever their particular story is, but he's too suspicious to believe that just yet.]
That's very true. I think over our heads is a fair way to describe it! But the power of people working together and taking strength and inspiration from each other, it's really impressive. Something like that is the pinnacle of hope shining through I think. [Oh a little hope tangent has appeared. Sorry. Those happen. He's looking almost wistful now.]
no subject
It's kind of surprising. I almost would have expected more people working in their own best interest only, regardless. [which, sometimes, he'll act like that's what he's doing, but yuri can't stand these sorts of injustices in any situation.] Not that I'm complaining. Things will probably change a whole lot faster if we're on the same side about things.
