![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |

But they sure are being tailed by a rudeass ghost, so Kaoru will try to keep pace, if nothing else. Dying at the metaphoric hands of something that doofy-looking would just be upsetting.]
What is that thing—? [THE FUTURE IS FULL OF TERRORS.] And why is it following us?
no subject
It's not. But it's pretty up there.] But I've seen it eat everything in its path...
[This would be such a great horror moment if the monster wasn't a giant red ghost blob with shifty blob eyes. Soramaru leads the way through a sharp turn in the courtyard, taking notice of another passageway that leads who knows where.]
We can hide in here.
no subject
Except no, the passageway seems blessedly free of ghosts, and as soon as they take the turn an ominous-sounding wakawakawakawaka goes right by their little hideout. SAFE... for the time being, at least.
Kaoru's breath is held for pretty much the entire duration of this, and it's released in a little exhausted-sounding puff once they're not in immediate danger of being eaten by a pixel ghost.]
...It seems we're free of it for now, at least. [That's some pretty good luck...! Turning to give Soramaru a closer look now, though. Huh... He definitely does look familiar. He's offered a smile nevertheless, and a polite, shallow bow follows soon after.]
Thank you for your care, sir. I fear to think what may have happened if you hadn't come along.
no subject
I... it's nothing. [Really. All he did was make a run with it, a single passenger in tow.
And then an apologetic bow in return.] I'm sorry for mixing you up in this. And for grabbing you so suddenly.
[If it looks like his face heats up just a little, you're probably imagining it.]
no subject
Please, there's no need to apologize. You truly did help, and I'm very grateful to you for it. [Because Kaoru, by appearances, seems like the sort of person who would be mowed down by rogue wakawakawakas without a guiding hand...]
Ah— My name is Nagumo Kaoru, by the way. May I know your name so that I can thank you properly?
no subject
It really was no trouble at all, Nagumo-san. [He'd do it again in a second! But with less hiccups, probably!] Oh, yes, of course. I'm Kumou Soramaru. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
And Kaoru's expression does indeed light up with recognition at that, because OH BOY, TIME TO EMBARRASS A LITTLE SIBLING. The smile given is bright and friendly, though one hand raises politely to obscure it after a second.]
My! Kumou-san, the younger brother of Tenka-san? Your older brother has spoken of you a few times. [Said in a tone that implies those few times are well worth talking about, BUT NOPE, moving on without story time!!]
It's very nice to meet you, as well. Ah, but here I am, already causing you trouble... I hope that you'll allow me to make it up to you?
no subject
He's taken aback by the mention of his brother, though he's not exactly surprised. This was his older brother after all, and people naturally flocked toward him. Still, it was comforting to know his brother had an acquaintance like Nagumo-san...
There's a brief pause when Kaoru mentions that Tenka had spoken of him, a small, pleased expression on his face which fades quickly at what's said next.]
If you're a friend of aniki's then please, I definitely can't allow that! I'm simply glad I was of some help, there's really no need to go to such lengths!
no subject
But that expression is definitely noted, and Kaoru's own reflects something close to gentle amusement. So many close siblings here, gosh!!]
It isn't going to any lengths, so please don't worry yourself over it. It was my own fault for coming into this game knowing the dangers that it possessed, even though I'm ill-suited for fighting... [Or running?!] Please allow me to show you around town as a token of gratitude. I'm certain that your brother will give you a tour as well, but having two perspectives wouldn't be too bad, I hope?
[Most importantly, Kaoru knows where all of the good bakeries are and will buy him a cake.]
no subject
But Soramaru gives in first, shoulders slumping in defeat but there's a small smile on his face.]
Ah, yes... If you really don't mind, Nagumo-san, then that sounds fine with me.
no subject
Thank you very much, Kumou-san. [VICTORY.] Ah— To that end, we should find a place to log out. Do you think that strange creature is gone?
[Peering out around the end of the pathway... No ominous pixel ghost noises can be heard, at least.]
...The nearest exit shouldn't be far from here, at least.
no subject
Okay, alright. He's also glancing around and checking out their surroundings, nodding when he's satisfied that the coast is clear.]
It should be safe. Please lead the way.
no subject
Please stay near.
[Soramaru's gonna be protected by a pretty princess...
Kaoru sticks pretty close to the walls after slipping from the alley, keeping an eye and an ear out while moving. There is a distant wakawaka, but it sounds like it's coming from ahead rather than behind...]
Let's see... [Withdrawing the CereVice! After tapping out a few keys, a holographic map pops up.] ...I believe that we need to head to the other side of the courtyard.
no subject
But yeah, that sound coming from up ahead is keeping him on his toes. After a curious glance at the odd device (yay, more things he doesn't understand), he scans the area.]
It wouldn't be a good idea to move around in the open. Is there a way to reach the other side without being seen?
no subject
That is, Kaoru's already way ahead of Soramaru, scrolling through the touchpad to show the map from different angles.]
—There was a fountain near the entrance where those pups were earlier. If we stay to the right of that, I believe the hedges along the perimeter of the courtyard are large enough to move behind without being spotted. I don't believe that we'll be able to find cover any more substantial than that...
no subject
But wow, Soramaru is... impressed. And a little taken aback. He didn't see this coming from pretty princess Kaoru.]
Ah, right. I'll trust your judgment, Nagumo-san.
no subject
Thank you. I have a little more experience with this place than I would like, to be honest... But at the very least, it comes in handy for moments like this. [AND ONWARD, TO THE HEDGES!! Kaoru will keep a careful eye out and move quietly and close to the perimeter, listening for any stray wakawakas.]
...Do you hear anything, Kumou-san?
no subject
But. You know what would be really creepy?
If the distant wakawakas just Suddenly Stop. As Soramaru strains to pick up on where the creature may have gone, a rustling noise comes from right behind them.
Soramaru freezes for only a second before he turns, slowly and carefully, eyes wide as he comes face to face with the pixel ghost.
Clever girl.]
—Nagumo-san, run!
no subject
Kumou-san—!
[Kaoru's worry is totally legit! He's closer to the pixel ghost, after all... The one in the immediate path of wakawakaing is Soramaru and Kaoru recognizes that, which is why THE TABLES ARE NOW TURNED. Just as it moves in to pacman them both to death, Kaoru reaches out to grab a hold of his wrist (with a delicate and lady-like grip, of course!!), promptly shoving him through the hedge and out of its direct path. BE FREE, SORAMARU.]
no subject
And branches poking at him! There are probably spiders in his air too. Holy balls, he's a bit stuck, actually. Being shoved through a hedge kind of sucks??
BUT WAIT, he can't just leave Kaoru behind!!!]
Wait, Nagumo-san, what about you!?
[DON'T DIE.]
no subject
BUT KAORU is already sort of jogging away in the opposite direction, making a vague hand gesture. The pixel ghost seems more interested in a moving target than in trying to fish one out from the hedges, at least, so the plan is a success!!]
Please don't worry about me, Kumou-san! I know where the exits are. If you just keep going straight ahead, you'll hit the exit portal there - I'll meet you on the outside!
[Unless the wakawaka curtain falls early and Kaoru is megamurdered, anyway...!!]
no subject
The internal struggle is real (so is the struggle to free himself from the hedge) as he watches Kaoru take off with the ghost in hot pursuit. He can't just leave a poor defenseless lady to fend off a monster like that!!!
But by the time he manages to get out of that pesky hedge, Kaoru and ghost are gone. He's basically got no choice now and he really hopes Kaoru made it out... because if not, that would be so terrible and he'd feel guilty for the Rest of His Life.
Right. Soramaru follows directions and quickly makes his way toward the exit portal. And then he... touches it?? Stands on it?? Either way, he's outie and suddenly finds himself in a place that's even less familiar than the courtyard and mansion.]
no subject
No okay after about half a minute more, the portal will do its weird portal magic and out pops this nerd near Soramaru! WHO KNOWS HOW THESE PORTALS WORK not me... But Kaoru is looking no worse for wear than when they parted ways like dramatic shonen heroes, albeit a little breathless and ruffled. (The ghost, on the other hand, is dead. So dead. No one must know.)
Looking around immediately on arrival though, and - YEP, there he is.]
Ah— Kumou-san! I'm glad that you made it without any hassle. You're all right? I've heard that some people can feel a little nauseous when they leave Vivid for the first time. [...] You don't have any scratches either, do you? I apologize for pushing you so suddenly...
[THAT WASN'T VERY NICE.]
no subject
Soramaru breathes the biggest sigh of relief when Kaoru appears and it feels like all the weight's been lifted off his shoulders because they made it! Who would've thought a pixelated ghost would cause so many problems, certainly not anyone in this action bracket.
Anyway!! He's barely listening to what Kaoru's saying since he has a seriously!! important!! thing!! to say.]
Nagumo-san! Thank you very much for saving me back there!
[His grateful expression and tone come with a special bonus of a low bow. Risking your neck like that... how amazing!! He definitely won't forget it any time soon.]
no subject
Kaoru will look a little surprised initially, but that quickly fades out into something that seems both sheepish and grateful in return. One hand raises in a polite gesture of dismissal, and the other comes up, covering a smile demurely.]
Oh— You don't need to thank me for something like that, sir. I hardly did anything... I'm just glad that you were able to leave without being harmed.
