The Haunting II: Haunt Harder

ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out.

At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count.

New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

PHASE I
[ xx:xx ] Yes, those are all the directions you get. Welcome, indeed, to Atrocia Manor. On the outside, you'll notice a faint howling in the distance. You better start running. That howling is only going to get louder as the werewolves start approaching. They roam in packs and will approach you from all sides, leveling a menacing stare at you before-!!!

-licking your hand. They'll all suddenly surround your character and start licking and lavishing attention on you as their tails wag from side to side happily. They may even roll over and show you their bellies for belly rubs. Please give them a treat and lots of love.
PHASE II
[ xx:xx ] Once you survive that grueling challenge, it's on to the next part. This is where things start to heat up. The inner atrium of the mansion is dark, only lit by faint torches. In the center are three of the four ghosts that were spoken of, slowly moving in circles around a shrouded figure. Before you can glimpse at the figure, it disappears and the ghosts turn to you and start approaching from every side. They block you in, leaving you in the center and slowly looming around you.

Their howls are prolonged and deep, piercing your ears, and they seem to want to lead you into a room. You can choose to run from their frightful faces or you can follow them. They will seat you down at the dinner table then slowly pull forth a power point presentation. This is your love and/or sex life. Yes, you have a sad one. How dare you? The ghosts will guilt you for this, and somewhere in the midst of their lecture, you notice a faint figure moving along the windows. It's only for a flicker of a second that it appears, but the impression it leaves on you remains.
PHASE III
[ xx:xx ] Feeling tired already? Well, don't stop and rest now! The challenges will only get worse. As you escape the three ghosts, you will ascend the stairs to the second level. Awaiting you is a vicious vampire …panda. Does it want your blood? Nope. It wants to talk to you about how to properly file your tax forms for a successful tax return. It will then lecture you on the EVILS of tax evasion. Be prepared for a scary ride with this one. It's not letting you out of the room until you listen to everything it has to say. For those who attempt to escape, it will… do absolutely nothing. It will sit there and watch you run.

PHASE IV
[ xx:xx ] You escape the horrors of both the first floor and the second floor only to arrive at the basement. The mysterious fourth ghost awaits with its back turned to you. It's covered in a shroud, and you are sure it's going to talk about diversifying your stock profile next. Oh, how wrong you are.

Because this one legitimately wants you dead, and it will wear the face of your worst enemy or your least favorite person while swiping down a scythe to reap away your life quickly. It won't be easy to kill, but once you whittle down its life halfway, it will finally reveal its true form. That's when the entire dungeon will start to glitch, and the ghost will cradle you between its hands before warning you:

sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ
sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ
sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ
sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ
sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ
sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ sn ǝɹǝʌǝɹ sn ɹɐǝɟ

It will then fade away, and congratulations! You won! Sort of...
BONUS
[ why:o'clock ] Congratulations on surviving Atrocia Manor! Here's your complimentary coupon for 35% off on your next Vidia's Secret purchase. Wasn't that a fun ride? But wait. There's more! The final final boss awaits you outside in the courtyard. It's the most gruesome of them all. The worst ghost you can encounter because it's one that has known great suffering and is out for vengeance.

It will follow you around and try to eat you basically. One floating dot at the time until it can reach you.

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you!

[Poor Soramaru....]

We've completed our task, and so--

[SO HE CAN LOG OUT or however this works. However it works idk but eventually they end up in the city instead of the fake haunted house.

Just roll with it. Soramaru.]

Here we are. Come this way.

[Onwards to an actual...home..... sorry he's abrupt.]

[personal profile] preserver 2014-12-20 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll do exactly that!

And it's okay, he's used to the abruptness by now. Soramaru follows as he's told, gaze roaming curiously as they move through the city. He's never seen anything like this. It's a little intimidating.]

If you don't mind me asking, where are we going? [And why was his master so chill about all of this... What has he missed out on??]

Tenka and I have established a temporary home while we are here. Of course, you will live there as well.

[... he clearly doesn't mind questions now, but yeah, he seems pretty chill about the whole thing. A month and a half has changed his perspective on how long they're going to be stuck here, even if he's determined to get back.]

Nishiki is living there as well.

[That one might be a bit of a test to see how much Soramaru remembers....]

[personal profile] preserver 2014-12-21 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, he won't argue with the sudden arrangement since living with his brother and his master is kind of the ideal. Especially in a place like this where he barely understands anything or knows anyone.

At the mention of Nishiki, his steps falter in surprise, but he's quick to reply.]

Aniki's okay with that? [And then, after a slight pause.] Are you okay with that, master?

[Look, he just wants to make sure everyone's getting along here.]

[personal profile] deontology 2014-12-21 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, he threw a fit about it.

[Look how many fucks Sousei gives (the answer is zero). He glances at Soramaru then, a little amused despite himself at his priorities. You've just been transported to this ridiculous place, and Soramaru's worried about causing them problems.]

But he is also the one who took her in. It is not a problem. [unlike tenka he's not a child who throws fits at things]

[personal profile] preserver 2014-12-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
A fit?

[Does he even want to know...

... Yeah, he wants to know. He'll probably regret it, but his curiosity is piqued.]

Did something happen?
deontology: (I.)

[personal profile] deontology 2014-12-22 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[...oh, right.]

He found out that you invited her to live at the shrine as a ward and took it poorly.

[He's shrugging inwardly, honestly.]

It is hardly worth making a fuss over.

[personal profile] preserver 2014-12-23 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Took it poorly? WHY...]

I... thought he wouldn't mind.

[Well, Soramaru had also thought he was dead. But wow, Tenka, so you're the only one allowed to adopt random ninjas??]

I'll have to talk with him about this.
deontology: (LVIII.)

[personal profile] deontology 2014-12-24 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[......... Kumous are really dense, aren't they....... but if Soramaru is going to talk to Tenka about it, then Sousei's washing his hands of the problem. Not his problem.]

...Do that.

[Yeah. Okay. Onwards to topics that are less weird.]

You've heard the explanations of our captors. Do not completely believe what they have to say. They are not necessarily to be trusted.

[personal profile] preserver 2014-12-28 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
[The densest. It's a problem, really.

But oh, right.]

Yes. [He'd had his doubts in the beginning and they were pretty much confirmed the second he found his brother and master and Nishiki. Suck it, lies and deceit.]

Have you learned anything more, master? During your stay, that is.
deontology: (XLVIII.)

[personal profile] deontology 2014-12-28 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[What has he learned.... that isn't just theory and conjecture? It's irritating how little he knows, when he's used to trying to piece together the entire situation.

But after a pause to rearrange his thoughts, he at least has the general gist of what needs to be shared.]

We are not currently able to leave the city. [So he's just even more suspicious, honestly...] Julius Vincere appears to be the [incompetent] man in charge, though he does not care much for us.

[...]

Death acts peculiarly here, and there are often people pulled from different points of time. [Weird as that is--but it's why he's lacking (x1) scar and (x1) haircut.

A glance at Soramaru then, to be sure he's keeping up.]

[personal profile] preserver 2015-01-05 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, seeing his brother without those scars and also walking?? That was wild. The whole "time works differently" thing is still a huge headache with no possible explanation that could sound even remotely sane, so. He'll just go with it.]

That's right. My brother didn't know about the Orochi being destroyed. [Slight.... pause....] Could it be that you're also from that time?
deontology: (XXVII.)

[personal profile] deontology 2015-01-05 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah......... tag your spoilers, Soramaru!!

Though admittedly, as per usual, Sousei takes that information in stride. Soramaru did look older, didn't he... interesting.]

That's correct. Though it is a relief to hear that we succeed. [good job team, well done. Though honestly--]

Don't concern yourself too much with it yet. Focus on adapting to this place, and the rest will grow more understandable in time. You don't have to understand it all at once.
