[ it's another muggy, meandering day in the jungle; nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. ]
IN THE VILLAGE
[ if your character is near the center of the village, they'll bear witness to the curious sight of a herd of shuffling mushroom beasts. in terms of threat level, to the experienced hunter they may have ranked low on the scale: slow, lacking an external fang or claw, they seem to be interested only in their endless march forward.
but, if your character is close enough, they may catch sight of a red-haired young man, a manifesto of anger written across his face. one breathless moment, the calm before the storm, and then he hurls a metallic pair of gloves at the closest beast, the gloves trailing arcs of flame.
what may strike your character first is the searing heat, the thrum of the earth below their feet. the whole village is demolished in a moment, the dying cries of the beasts rising above the din. the explosion lasts much longer than it should, the line of mushrooms going up one after another.
if you're too close, you might be torn in two. you might lose a limb, or two, or three. you might go deaf, you might lose your sight. you might lose all your eyelashes, your clothes. maybe the bag of mushrooms you'd collected for dinner is now little more than ash.
keep running. the smoke trails into the air. someone is screaming. the smell of charred meat follows you even after you disappear into the jungle. ]
IN THE SURROUNDING JUNGLE
[ if your character is close enough to the village, they'll feel the blasts, one after the other. the jungle is on fire, quickly spreading. maybe you'll hear the screaming, too; maybe your lungs will fill with smoke. maybe you'll run into one of the last mushroom beasts, fleeing from the explosion only to trigger a lesser one in the depths of the jungle.
it came from the village, didn't it? maybe someone you love was swept up in the explosion.
if you manage to escape the stampede of terrified jungle beasts (some of which may stop to crunch you up as a quick meal as they dash away from the blast), maybe you can venture closer to see what's happened.
or maybe you should get as far away as possible. ]

Part B.
b
Leia stands after tending to her latest patient and leads him hurriedly to a path where she signals for him to leave.]
Go! As far as you can, and don't stop, okay?
[Just as quickly after he follows her instructions, she turns, running towards the fire again where her friend is.]
Korra! Is there anyone else?
no subject
[Before she leads Leia toward the river, though, she gives her friend a once-over.]
What about you, are you okay?
no subject
But she's slowly getting exhausted, and this feels like the first breather she's had.
So she does what she always does when she's exhausted and smiles faintly to reassure her.]
I'm fine, don't worry. The ash makes it looks worse than it is.
[She managed to avoid the worst of it, only approaching the scene afterwards. Her clothes (and throat) get most of the damage here, though there are likely notable red spots where she got a little too close to the flames to get someone out.]
I could use some water artes right about now.
[Her eyes flicker towards the river . . .]
no subject
[She follows Leia's gaze to the river, trying not to look too hopeful.]
Water artes is... some kind of water power or spell?
no subject
Yeah, but they're not exactly my specialty.
[aka . . . she hasn't been able to master any. Her focus is instead on healing and support spells, with physical, aerial artes sprinkled in.]
What should we do? How can we use the river . . .
no subject
[Korra quickly asks her, gaze focused and intent. Though she's not being sharp or anything, this is probably a side to Korra that Leia has really seen before.]
I can control water, so if there's a spell of some kind that can work with my power, we can give it a try.
no subject
I used to be a nurse. Most of my artes cover healing and support, but I can pull off some attacks and combos, too. A lot of them involve wind.
[. . .]
I might be able to help you guide the water, but it doesn't sound like you need that. You can really control it?
no subject
[Korra straightens, eyes lighting up with an idea.]
If I draw the water here, and you use your wind at the same time, we can put out some of the fires and cool the place down at the same time.
no subject
I was thinking about that, but I wasn't sure if I'd make it worse.
The water, though . . . [She didn't know she could count on that. She eyes the river, and then glances back to Korra.] Let's try it.
B;
It occurs to him briefly that his friends might still be in the village and that he should hurry, but there's little time to think about it- his friends are strong and they'd be fine for sure, which they won't be if the fire continues to spread.]
I can use ice magic to put out the fire and keep it from spreading to the trees, but we should hurry- there could some survivors in the village that we haven't found yet.
no subject
I'll check your throat after we've put out the fire, alright? [She's not taking "no" for an answer here. Without waiting for his reply, Korra stares back into the growing fire, expression grim.]
Can you use your ice magic without water from the river?
no subject
He turns to look at the fire as well, staring at the blaze as he considers his options. Using Skadi would extinguish the fires quickly but it'd be risky as he'd be voiding his fire immunity, however short a time it lasts. It takes him a few moments to consider the best strategy, and he nods to indicate that he's done thinking.] I'll need stand far from the fire to keep myself safe. [It's followed by a hoarse cough; the both of them are going to have to move quickly before the heat and smoke overwhelm them.] Get some water now if you need to, I can handle the fire here for now.
no subject
[Inhaling shallowly to avoid the smoke, Korra braces herself. When she opens her eyes, they glow briefly with Raava's light. Using the Avatar State to boost her power slightly, Korra reaches for the water in the river, calling a large stream of it to her. Once the water's close enough, she lets it rain down on the fire, extinguishing parts of it.]
no subject
He follows up by raising his Evoker to his head without hesitation, smoke and urgency of the crisis at hand clouding his thoughts enough to not think of how Korra might have acted to such a display.] Skadi!
[A swirl of blue smoke and light surrounds him shortly after the trigger is pulled, followed by the manifestation of Skadi, which he directs towards the worst of the flames before using his power to chill the air enough that the fires are put out in a range as big as Korra's.
He takes a deep breath after Skadi disappears, clearly having exerted himself slightly more than Korra has.] I didn't think it'd work so well...anyway, we can move closer to the village now.
no subject
She takes a step toward him, fully expecting him to fall to the ground, bleeding, but when the smoke clears, he's still there. Somehow, he's still standing. Too shocked to do anything but stare at him, Korra barely pays any attention to his persona.]
...how? [Korra barely manages to choke that out when he's looking at her again.] What did you do just now?
no subject
It's not a real gun- I use it to summon my Persona. [Unfortunately that's all he's going to say because they really don't have the time to discuss unimportant questions like "Why do you have to shoot yourself to summon a manifestation of a god?" and "Is there something wrong with you?" right now.]
I don't think we have the time for this... [Inhaling the smoke has done more than just affected his judgment, as he's considerably less patient with questions than he usually is.] Let's go.
no subject
She gives him a short nod and breaks into a brisk walk.]
Split up when we get to the houses and meet near the middle after we've checked the area?
[With Korra still trying to shake off her shock, Minato's not the only one a little short with his words right now.]
no subject
He likewise starts to walk quickly, making sure to cover his nose and mouth as much as possible to avoid breathing in the particles from the flames.]
Can you heal? If you can't and you meet anyone who needs help, just call for me.
no subject
If you run into trouble with anything, just give me a shout.
[With that, Korra darts into the smoking village ruins.]
