It’s been a few days in the jungle now and hopefully you haven’t managed to die just yet – after all, the fun’s just begun. On the seventh day of trekking the wilderness, each character who has Water in their heart will suddenly find themselves pausing in the middle of the day. Suddenly they’ll feel a rush of cold, like a splash of cold water dumped on them. Then without warning, they’ll feel splashes of water amidst their feet. Then, through the use of a spontaneous, tall wave of water, they’re washed right off their feet. At least they don’t have time to be scared as they suddenly lose consciousness after swimming for a few seconds. Don’t worry. It’ll get better. When they wake up, they hear the following message in between the rushing sound of a river—
Don’t be lazy. Come on, we’re going somewhere.
You need to see something. Be grateful, I wouldn't do this for just anyone.
|
PHASE I [ day one ] Maris is easily and by far the most careless of the elements. Unfortunately this means that he’s pretty careless about where he drops off those of the Water affinity – which is to say, they land with a very literal splash. Waking up in the middle of a roaring river probably isn’t pleasant. Neither is the fact that all around, there is an abundance of coral reefs sprouting from beneath the surface of the water. If the water was calmer, it would be crystal clear that every gorgeous, colorful detail could be seen beneath the water's surface. But as is, it’s a bit of a fight to just make sure that you don’t go rushing right into an anemone and destroy Nemo’s home. “Relax, stop breaking my stuff,” Maris’s voice comes from all around when a character finds themselves underwater. Now… do you actually listen?
Because if you do, you'll find that you're actually not in any danger of drowning -- whatever Maris has done, it seems as though you can now breathe underwater (temporarily; really, don't try this at home) though you're still going to be totally soaked. You'll have to swim your way out of here but since this is Maris, it's not like he's given you any directions.
Oh, and that coral will still cut you to ribbons, so best avoid that too.
PHASE II [ day one ] Eventually, gallons of swallowed salt water and a dozen anemone stings later, the water calms down. Characters will surface and find none other than a string of kayaks waiting for them at the next river bend. They’re old and made entirely from the surroundings in the forest – it’s easy to tell that they were used by whoever inhabited this forest once upon a time. Adventurers are welcome to climb onto the kayaks, but they’re clearly expected to continue to follow the river. The water is calmer and as promised, different kinds of aquatic life can be found dwelling in the river. Important Reminder: Fish are friends, not food. Should you try to eat one of the aliens swimming around, a sudden, angry whirlpool will appear right there in the middle of the water and spit you back to where you arrived -- you'll have to make the entire swim again! Apparently Maris doesn’t quite appreciate your attempt at nibbling on one of his subjects.
PHASE III [ day two ] Further down the river, getting closer and closer to the sound of oceanic waves, a few more stops pop up along the sides of the river. Tiny houses, akin to rundown shacks will appear and you're welcome to take a look at them. Some of them possess scorch marks and others have flowers growing in between the cracks of the wooden panels. Each have scratch marks, suggesting that the guests of these little huts all had different…. sharp features.
For a while, each of these shacks appear similar to one another – up until the last handful at the end of the row. While they look just as rundown on the outside, inside of these particular shacks, there will be sheets metal and pieces of old technology, completely powered down and out of juice. A piece of paper can be found after opening up some of the cabinets. Most of it too damaged by water to make out, but one page is written in discernible language. “In conclusion, the natives who dwell in the water are gifted with different powers that allow them to stay primarily within the bodies of water in the region. However they are at peace with those who are aligned with fire, earth, and air. They have come to build small huts so that they may coexist together. Whatever rumored divisions used to exist between them are no longer in place.”
Wonder who could've been here? Either way, it seems they've left their marks -- there are no natives to be found here, and the river seems dirtier here.
PHASE IV [ day three ] The river finally empties out into the ocean. It is crisp, clear, and a gorgeous day out. The sand is perfectly fine and thin, warm underneath your inevitably pruned feet after being in the water for so long. Waves lap against the shore and carry seashells back and forth, tossed into intricate shapes not native to the typical beachside. You made it. Welcome to your Beach Episode. …. Or at least, that’s how it would be if there wasn’t a sudden loud, groaning noise coming from the water. It rises slowly and the feeling is not unlike watching the tsunami threaten to wash over the colony however many months ago. But this isn’t just a wall of water, this is a wall of monster. Tentacles sprout out from beneath the ocean’s surface and a piercing screech breaks the monotony of the beach. It’s happened. You unleashed the kraken.
... Or, at least, a giant fish monster of some sort. Gross. Maris won't be any help; he just sits and watches, shrugging if anyone approaches. It's not his fault most of you smell like food.
But should you manage to take care of the angry fishy fiend, the beach will be free to explore and enjoy and...hopefully not be too uncomfortable to try to sleep on when night falls.
Welcome to your new home.

She can't stop looking at the blobby cats...one of them is very shiny.] A-ah, they look friendly... [Yet in that screenshot, a party is ready to kill them. MONSTERS. She also noticed that Adolf here just continued right along. Does he like cute things.]
Maris was the first one we met, but apparently there are other. I have not encountered them yet either. [It's okay, she always ends up far away from the spirits.] From what I can tell, Maris aggressively hates CERES, he was involved in a situation where he tried to take down the city with rain because of it.
no subject
The blobby cats start pursuing them, but not in a menacing way... more like hungry cats following someone who looks nice enough to pay attention to them. Adolf pretends not to hear their plaintive 'nyaa's, because that's too cute and fuck that, he can't deal with this on this day. ]
Don't make eye contact.
[ They may look cute but they may maul them?! Moral dilemmas. ]
...And yeah, I remember the rain. These spirits aren't too diplomatic with the way they try to solve things, are they. First the flood, now this.
no subject
Oh...no...RESIST. He's resisting, which helps her since she can just follow him and try to ignore the blobby cats. Their nyaa's are too cute, if they looked, they probably would be lost to them. Even if they were docile. What if one waves.]
Y-Yes...
[She clears her throat and keeps close, they're here for food!]
It was an attack on Julius Vincere, only they attacked before they realised that Vincere had already died. I am unsure of their actions now. [Though the part about being in the jungle was understandable. They were apparently lifted from the city to escape its grasp. Yet Survivor: Tellus is still a mystery. Are they meant to make a new colony? Vacation?]
no subject
Adolf also clears his throat, and discreetly pulls out a knife from his belt. ]
I heard about Vincere. Something about a murder. [ Cerealia: where people casually talk about killing people. It's just a fact of life, Adolf supposes, and his expression remains largely calm except for the vague discomfort of being followed by cute things. ] Whatever this is, we can't say for certain that it isn't a way to divide us and pick us off individually.
[ Okay, Adolf's not winning points for positivity anytime soon. ]
no subject
Seeing a glimpse of metal tells her that they should be cautious, however. Even against the nyaa. NYAA. There's one super pitiful nyaa as well.]
Yes, it was announced. It sounded more like a political assassination, but no details have come to light. [What a great place to be talking about murder. And time, apparently.] Ah, it could be. Maris made no effort to stop the creature that attacked, when he could've and we all reached a peaceful resolution with it.
no subject
[ Even though Maris apparently hooked someone he knows up with mermaid fins?! He's never going to fully understand the politics of this place, everyone is so untrustworthy. Thanks CERES.
A beat later, though, and there's a rustling from the underbrush, followed by a squawk. That's... ominous, and Adolf puts up a hand so the both of them can stop against an incoming monster. Even the blobcats hide after this new development. ]
...Stay still.
[ And out from the bushes comes... what looks like Big Bird from Sesame Street, but more menacing?! And with sharp fangs. This is a result of having Googled 'big bird monster' and getting abysmal results. ]
no subject
She hears the squawk and stops as urged, cautiously looking around. The nyaa'ing is now gone since the blobcats have retreated. If they have stopped, then whatever is coming is higher up the food chain.
And what is that. It looks familiar. But it feels like they're stuck in a toy world with evil monsters? (FNAF?!) THANKS A LOT GOOGLE.
Whispering very quietly--] If this one attacks...well I suppose we can have some poultry. [VIETNAM?!]
no subject
The not-so-animatronic monstrosity looms closer to the duo, puffing its feathers and making a jumpscare face. Adolf isn't actually sure what the hell is going on anymore, but he motions for Vietnam to stay back as he sheathes his knife again and reaches for what looks like...
...a metal Altoids tin. Listen, this may look weird as hell, but don't judge him too harshly. Yet. ]
We're not going to wait for it to attack first. [ He shakes some powder out of this tin, holds it up to his face. And inhales it through his nose. HE PROMISES THIS ISN'T ANYTHING TOO SKETCHY... ] ...Start moving to the side. Even if it follows you, don't panic.
no subject
From cute blobcats to birds that look like a children's nightmare, Vietnam could question why this environment has so many weirdos (not that a country can say anything, really). She moves back, wondering what he's doing.
...is he...doping himself? Adolf?! Now?!]
A-alright. [Well, he looks like he has a plan, SO, she will do as he says.] Like this? [She starts moving to the side. At least she's not scared! She's just worried about what he sniffed?!]
no subject
Once Vietnam starts moseying to the side, the bird monster sets its sights on her; the other guy is too weird, and he also doesn't look too good to eat, obviously. It flaps its wings angrily and starts lunging for her, which might be cause enough to panic?!
But a split second later, a knife lodges in its throat. And if that wasn't enough to stun the bird long enough that it stops trying to go after Vietnam, what follows is a crackle and a shock— the unmistakable sound of electricity, bright enough that it covers the entire monsterbird in a blue-white light for a second or two.
Ah.
Farewell, Chica-lite... we barely knew you. It wobbles on its feet, sways, and then presumably dies on the spot—
—which may or may not be a good thing, because it looks like it's going to topple right on top of Vietnam?! Maybe this would be a good time to whack it aside with an oar or kick it or?! Something! Just in case it's not fully dead... ]
no subject
She's too tiny to be delicious! But then if it's working out just the way he planned, then that's okay. Look at her! She's meaty! (not really)
But it lunges, and she's not sure if she should do anything. Panic? Fight? What does he have in mind? Should she dodge but try to lure it away from him anyway? Not that she has much to think about as a blade and electricity ripples through its body, bright enough that she has to shut her eyes for a second.
So that's his skill, the one he spoke about. It's a decisive move should it strike, which is what happened to Chica-lite. Only that now it's toppling towards her. It's also twitching, and she doesn't know if it's from the electricity or because it's still alive.
Alright then, she'll smack it! Giving it a solid hit with her oar, she makes sure it topples the opposite direction before running towards it, jumping and then slamming the blunt edge of her oar into its throat (double tapping). And then pulls out the blade to return it to him?!]
no subject
Even the blobcats have gathered to watch Vietnam as she Mortal Kombats Chica-lite to its grave. They harbor no illusions about what they can do to the duo now, probably.
After Adolf takes a moment to cool down and make sure that everything is all clear, he moves towards his travel partner and gives her a quick up-down, just to make sure she's not hurt. He keeps a comfortable distance from her, though, given that he's still sparkling lightly from his hands. ]
...Toss that to me. [ The throwing knife, he means. ] ...I'm guessing I don't have to apologize for not being more careful about where that bird went.
[ Because she dealt with that just fine, damn. ]
no subject
She wipes her brow before pulling her oar back, and steps away from the creature. Although she wanted to hand his knife to him in person (also throwing it as dangerous?!) she notices the sparks that still dance around his finger tips. So she does toss it to him, just a curve so that it wouldn't hit him, but the ground should they fail and he misses.]
I mentioned before that I will do whatever you say if you have a plan. It's an impressive skill you have! [A lot more graceful than what she did?!]
no subject
You handled it well. [ That's easy enough for him to say, and he says it with all the ease of someone who's gotten used to having subordinates— which he has, but not since coming here. He seems to catch himself halfway, though, and knits his lips into a tight line before relaxing again. She doesn't work for him, after all, no matter how generously compliant she is. ] ...The electricity will wane in a few minutes. It shouldn't be an issue, but if you want to be on the safe side, you can go on back to the beach and I'll carry the carcass back.
no subject
She manages a small smile at his remark. This one sounds like a captain.] Thank you, I am glad I was able to help. [Teamwork gets them places! She then shakes her head.] It would be unfair for you to carry it all the way back yourself. I will accompany you and help take over once the electricity wanes.
no subject
[ Giving her an out if she wants, even if it sounds mildly rude— as if he expects Vietnam to be grossed out. Though, that expert double-tap is enough to convince Adolf that she's probably not that concerned about things like that. Hopefully.
He steadies his breathing, closes eyes that've turned from green to blue and slowly lets the drug break down in his bloodstream. ]
no subject
It's okay, she knows he's looking out for her by now. Though she does wonder what's going on with him.]
Do you need to rest first? To be able to control electricity... [Not everyone can handle it, and he had to inhale some MYSTERIOUS POWDER.]
no subject
Not necessary. I can move around fine— this is mostly for your safety.
[ Not that he doesn't have control over his powers, but! In the off chance that he even static shocks her, he'll feel badly about it.
But here he is, finally moving closer so he can haul the head end of Monster Big Bird up. ] Take the legs, they're easier to hold on to.
no subject
Oh! Thank you for your concern. [At least if it's not fatal, she'll be able to get up again. Don't worry, Adolf, she can take those crazy burns. Without a scar!!!
She moves to the back as instructed, bending to start to lift up the legs. It's a huge bird, so she's sure her limits will be pushed, but at least she won't look like she'll struggle much. Why can't you blobcats help out too, ugh.] I am ready whenever you are.
no subject
But with the power of teamwork, they manage to haul their dinner up! A little maneuvering later, Adolf succeeds in draping the bird's head and upper body over his shoulders. Not exactly the most graceful thing he's done in his life, but he'll live. ]
We can head back the way we came. Try not to trip, and if you find yourself stumbling, let go of the bird. Your balance is more important.
[ Just Team Mom Things. The blobcats just watch them, nyaa-ing supportively... cute but useless. ]
no subject
And look at dinner go! It's like they're carrying a stuffed pig. Only it's more a roast chicken. She's a lot shorter, so she tries to compensate by making sure it stays a lot more rigid on her shoulders as to not drag Adolf down.]
Alright, and thank you. I will do my best to keep up.
[He worries a lot! Is this how it feels like to get mom'd? She can't let him worry! Also blobcats, cute...but at least clear their path or something for them, gosh.]
no subject
Adolf's noticed the height difference, which he feels badly about since he's a giant and Vietnam is so petite. He hefts the bird a little higher so his companion doesn't have to struggle too much, and makes sure that his strides match hers. Who allowed him to be so lanky, anyway.
One thing Adolf Struggles With is smalltalk, so he awkwardly stays quiet for a good portion of this journey... what a nerd. But once they get within sight of the beach again, he stops and looks over his shoulder. ]
Are you going to be cooking on the sand.
[ Is that hygienic...?! He didn't really think this through, actually. ]
no subject
Yeah who let him be so tall. But she notices what he's doing. He's too nice!! She'll still try to keep up either way. And it's a good thing she doesn't feel awkward with silence, so all is well. Until the beach. Because that's a good question.]
I will probably need to set up something, a bed of rocks for a fire and perhaps we need a layer to set the meat? [She doesn't want sand flying into the food anyway, and also setting sand on fire might not be a good idea.]
no subject
Once they both stop to assess their surroundings, Adolf hoists the bird even further up onto his shoulders and motions for her to let go if she wants, so she can scout the area for any convenient rocks or...abandoned beach towels. Not that they're going to find the latter.
He'll dutifully trail behind her!! He's got this covered. ]
Sounds good. ...You might want to call over some of the others, once you get started cooking. [ A beat, and then he adds: ] Not that they'll need to be prompted. The journey here was abysmal.
[ Read: 'literally fuck that river'. ]
no subject
She looks at him, not yet moving until he is very sure that he will handle the dead bird himself. After that, it's time to hunt for rocks. Or a beach towel. Or maybe this giant leaf too, they can use that!]
Ah yes, and hopefully if it smells nice. [What if bad meat, but then they can't complain! They need food.] Goodness, the trip here... [Just a Bad memory.] I wonder where everyone else is. The ones who aren't with us. [Maybe they got it easier!!!]
