![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

Which naturally means that Gon is loathe to give up this fight. ]
There's no such thing as somebody who can't be beat, right? That means there must be some trick we haven't thought up yet.
[ Which means that nope, he's not ready to throw in the towel yet. ]

And yet as Killua dodges a swing of the chainsaw, leaping to the side and going in with another should-kill strike at the ghost's chest, there's nothing. His nails hit the ghost's skin and slide off.
They can't win this. Not if all of their attacks have no effect. The problem is convincing Gon of that, of course. ]
He's stronger than us. [ Killua's voice is tight with strain; he can feel fear bubbling up in his chest even as he tries to swallow it down, tries to keep it at bay. ] Gon, we have no idea why we can't damage him. We're not in the game anymore.
no subject
[ And without waiting to hear Killua's answer, Gon charges up for his next attack, waiting for the monster to get close enough before he unleashes his attack. ]
Show me — scissors!
[ It would've been enough to split boulders into two, but the Nen-powered attack just glances off of it. Gon jumps back almost immediately, but not quite fast enough — the chainsaw just barely clips him, enough to leave a gash on his upper arm, but barely even registers on Gon's radar as an actual injury. ]

Even if the ghost isn't letting off any kind of aura, anything that makes Killua feel like just curling up into a ball until it goes away, this is still an untenable situation. He darts in, manages to at least shove the monster back and farther away from Gon, and snaps out: ]
Stop it. We're not going to win!
[ He knows how stubborn Gon can be. That's why he doesn't wait for a response, just grabs Gon by the wrist and bodily drags him out, running flat out through the halls of the... some kind of store? Whatever, until they reach the mall proper and he can yank Gon into a utility closet, slam the door behind them, and press himself to it, listening for any signs of pursuit.
It doesn't matter how angry Gon might be with him. It'd be stupid to stay there without a plan, without any way to win. ]
no subject
Okay, what's the plan?
no subject
I don't know. Let me think.
[ Nothing they'd done worked. The ghost hadn't looked like it had any kind of shielding, no nen, nothing technological, just... invulnerability. Something they've never come across before, and no clues to tell him where to start. But Gon's counting on him, it's his job to figure something out.
Maybe they can at least contain it even if they can't damage it? Gon probably wont' like that idea, but it might be better than nothing until they can ask around and see if anyone else has any idea why the thing can't even be scratched. That's still only temporary, though, and besides, Gon's not asking for a plan to trap it. He wants a plan to fight it.
Killua starts pacing, steps short and jerky with his irritation. ]
no subject
... What's wrong, Killua?
no subject
You don't wanna just catch that thing, right?
[ So what if that's not... really an answer to Gon's question? He still has a job to do, he has to figure out how they can take the ghost down. There isn't time to focus on why he's worked up, not when he's sure Gon is itching to get back to the fight. ]
no subject
[ That's basically what they did to the Bomber, after all. But that circumstance seems different from this one; they had a reason for wanting to capture and not kill Genthru, whereas he doesn't see an immediate reason to capture this creature-thing. ]
no subject
I don't know how to beat it. [ He says it like a confession, like he's letting Gon down, not having a plan ready to go, but even as he says it, he knows that of course Gon isn't expecting him to, not so quickly. ] I couldn't see anything that'd keep it from being affected by our attacks.
no subject
[ Maybe it's a highly situational kind of thing? At any rate, Gon really can't believe that there's a monster that can't receive any damage whatsoever. Even Hisoka has gotten nastily injured. Even Meruem got radiation poisoning.
Not that the second example really matters in this case, but. ]
— Killua, I can hear it getting closer. [ The buzzing of the chainsaw's kind of a giveaway. ] We should move.
no subject
Right, let's go somewhere else. [ He's already thinking again, now that he's not stuck on how he can't do what Gon needs, mind already racing ahead to how they can figure out what will work, if nothing they can do right now will. ] We'll have to come up with something new, and then test it.
[ He pushes the door open and takes a look down the hall: clear for now, but probably not for long, and he motions Gon out. ]
We'll try as many times as it takes. No matter how stupid it seems, we'll try anything until we find something that works.
[ He's planning on having a bit more strategy than that to what they do try, but for now, it's a good enough plan to start with. ]
no subject
[ But first, not dying from being trapped in a utility closet. The good thing about the chainsaw is that it makes their opponent conspicuous. He darts down the hallway, stopping when they come to the end of it. A left or a right, but lingerie on both sides.
At times like this, you gotta go with your instinct!! Gon points to the right. ]
Let's go this way?
no subject
[ Gon's instinctual sense of direction is as good as anything else, considering neither of them has been inside a Vidia's Secret before. Is the exit past the bright pink lacy teddies or the sequined memory foam bras? Killua has no idea and he was happy not having a reason to ever try to figure it out.
This is a really big store, actually. Like, really, really big. Just how much lingerie do the people around here need? Killua's starting to suspect there's something wrong with the dimensions of the store, considering how far they've run and not yet found an end to the ruffly aisles of merchandise, but they also haven't passed duplicates of anything yet, so maybe the place really is just that massively big.
They can't just keep running, though. Well, they could, they've got the stamina for it, but it's a lot easier to think and set out a trap if they're not dashing around. When they've covered at least a mile of distance, Killua puts on a little speed and nudges Gon's arm, pointing him toward what looks like... yes, that is indeed some kind of romantic, rose-covered gazebo set up in the middle of the store, but at least it's shelter of a sort. ]
In here. We can see him coming, but there's enough cover if we sit on the ground.
[ Instead of on the very plush, very red, heart-shaped bed. ]
no subject
He wrinkles his nose a little now that they've gotten a few moments to rest. This Vidia's Secret smells really strongly of perfume, it's enough that it masks the other scents in the shop. Plus, it just smells way too strongly, Gon kind of wants to sneeze. ]
Maybe we should use these racks to slow him down. [ Surely nobody will miss a few dozen push-up bras and cute panties? Then again, it's not like Gon has ever had need to pay attention to such things before in his life, so he wouldn't really know. ] ... I can't tell if it's still following us or not.
no subject
[ Killua stops. Slowly turns to look at Gon.
Sure, they're far enough away that they can't hear the chainsaw any more. And yeah, they'd taken an awfully winding route through the lingerie forest. But this is Gon, who'd followed Leorio's cologne miles out of the killer swamp. Killua's... honestly not sure what to make of this statement. ]
Wait, what do you mean you can't tell?
no subject
[ He can't even begin to explain how thick the perfume is, especially considering that he's sensitive to scents. At least it's not, say, A&F, but it's still permeating the air so thoroughly that it's making it hard for him to sniff out anything else from a distance. ]
But we should be able to hear it before it gets too close, at least.
no subject
What's making you wanna sneeze? [ He frowns and takes a deep inhale. ] I don't smell anything weird. [ Or much of anything at all. ]
