![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

Let's not dawdle.
no subject
Anyway, not dawdling as requested. Oz the friendly ghost-jacked body walks a little behind and to a slight angle, silent and agreeable for the most part. UNTIL:]
You can't shoot them.
[-that's announced rather abruptly, anyway.]
no subject
...Well, I know that. [ He's not sure what's happening, but he knows that shooting flying furniture won't help. ] I feel more secure having it, though.
[ He shrugs, then looks to the area ahead, and seeing that it's clear, he turns his attention more on Oz. ]
What happened? At this point, you'd have complained that I have it at all.
no subject
IN REVERSE THOUGH, "Oz" doesn't seem to be paying as much attention to Ciel, looking around the area in a sort of halfheartedly curious way. It's with a similar absentmindedness that he replies, with a shrug:]
If it makes you feel more secure, there isn't anything wrong with it, right? Even if it does no good.
[Which, if this were Oz, might be said in a vaguely displeased SO PUT IT AWAY tone. BUT NOPE rudeass ghost just says it in a manner that almost borders on taunting, though there doesn't appear to be any particular amount of maliciousness behind it.]
no subject
Perhaps not.
[ He's uncertain of what to do, because the way Oz is acting is odd, and considering what Oz had told him of how he had acted... He wonders. What could he even do? But that's why they had discussed this possibility at all, so Ciel finds himself all the more glad he has his gun in hand. ]
Hey, Oz, what do you think we should do? Give me your opinion.
no subject
[This is like some sort of demented version of if you give a mouse a cookie. IF YOU GIVE A GHOST THE CHANCE TO BE AN EVEN BIGGER SHITHEAD... He seems to be giving it some thought, even though he's not really looking at Ciel when he answers.]
In a situation like this, people should just crawl under their sheets and cover their ears.
no subject
[ Ciel says it neutrally as he stops walking, but then turns so that his gun is pointed at Oz instead. His expression is intense and cold, as if he were playing a game of chess rather than pointing a gun at his friend. Even though Oz is the closest friend he's had since he had returned from that place, there's no hesitation in how he carries himself. ]
However, I have no intention of doing that. Something is wrong with you, Oz. [ He doesn't jump to the assumption that it's ghosts, since even with all the spooky activity, it's not really something he's inclined to believe over something he had been victim to himself. ]
...Is it the chip?
no subject
The chip? I don't really know what you're talking about.
[Hard to tell if he's lying or telling the truth, too. There isn't really anything in his tone or his expression that leans one way or another; if the conversation is on the ground, then "Oz" is balancing on a tightrope above it.]
What do you think we should do?
no subject
Do you not? Then in that case, I think I should probably kill you. Impostors are the worst sort of person.
[ It doesn't seem like he would back down from that implied threat, but... He makes no move forward either. ]
Who are you?
no subject
You can't.
[For various reasons, none of which include "because you won't pull the trigger".]
So it would be best if you go back home and lock the door and wait.
[IT MIGHT BE A THREAT but it sure doesn't sound like one. He says it in the same amiable tone he's been using the entire conversation.]
no subject
Not without you there. I don't know who the hell you are, but you're not running around like this.
[ Because he's at least fairly certain that this is Oz's body because of that scar. If it's a doppleganger, then it's one with a special eye for detail. ]
What are you?
no subject
Especially since Ciel's reactions are pretty funny, all things considered. Somewhere out in the distance, the real Oz is yodeling in gratitude because he can sense that he's gained a friendship point, but "Oz" is just staring eerily at the back of Ciel's head like a dang weirdo.]
Do you want to ask "who" or "what"? You should make up your mind. [Now he's just being a shithead...]
no subject
[ He says it venomously as he leads the way, but presumably, they're not too far from the apartment, so the complex is already coming into view. Ciel looks furious, but there's a slight worry in his eyes that's unmistakable, though he's also trying to hide that.
But also, there's something about that smile that's unnerving in a different way, like he's seen this smile like water before. He's not sure where, because when he tries to think about that smile, it's foggy, but he also knows what that must mean. It makes his stomach feel like it's sinking, but he absolutely refuses to relive that day. ]
no subject
Instead, "Oz" seems to be focusing on the building that they're heading toward. The ghosting amusement seems to shift briefly into something that more closely resembles curiosity, but that's also a pale reflection. Nothing that he portrays by way of emotion seems to have much substance to it at all.]
What do you intend to do once we get there? Are you going to keep an eye on me?
no subject
...Why did it have to be Oz, of all people? If that empty-headed moron was good for anything it was knowing people, but now, an occasion where knowing people would be helpful, Ciel was the only one. And he's at a loss. ]
I'll do whatever I have to.
[ He can say that much confidently, even though he doesn't have anything more specific in mind. ]
If you won't tell me what you are, fine. But I won't let you do what you please with Oz.
[ the yodeling intensifies, surely ]
no subject
But "Oz" doesn't react to the increased grip
because Ciel has a noodle grip to begin with. His gaze drops briefly to Ciel's hand; he doesn't try to shake it off, but he does apparently decide to be a little creepy since his free hand rises soon after so he can gently touch Ciel's wrist. He's just angling for a reaction, more or less, because all of his reactions so far have been funny...]That's a pretty brave thing to say, isn't it? [ciel the gallant knight kya
Or Ciel the potential murderer HE STILL SEES THAT GUN THERE, BUB.]
no subject
Don't you dare patronize me.
[ He smacks away the hand as they wander into the apartment building, though his arm does ache a little bit at doing so. Maybe he should have worn the sling today after all, he thinks, but it's too late for that. ]
And stop that. It's disgusting.
no subject
You're troubled.
[Like he'd miss the unease beyond his reaction... Of course Ciel wouldn't be that lucky!! He seems to be a relatively perceptive ghost, so it's clear that he's addressing something that isn't limited to Ciel's aversion to being touched by a body-snatching weirdo.
Following along into the building, though! By the time they get to the elevators, he'll helpfully add:]
But I don't think that you're really in a position to tell me what I can and can't do, either.
no subject
You're wrong. You're my prisoner, because I already told you. I won't allow you to do what you wish. You won't make Oz do anything.
[ Ciel isn't sure if this is really Oz, admittedly, but it's also not a change he wants to take. If he let him off easily, and he was wrong, then the consequences for that could be much harsher than simply treating this thing harshly from the start. Ciel doesn't know that Oz understands just as well what it means to be controlled by someone else, to be made to do terrible things that you never wanted to do at all, but that possibility is something he wants to save Oz from. He doesn't want Oz to find himself in the situation that Ciel had.
So, to avoid that... They had already decided there was a preferable solution. Ciel's tone drops, low and dangerous to match his expression. ]
I won't let you control him. Even if I have to kill you.
no subject
You can't. [A repeat of what had been said earlier, but accompanied by laughter this time. He shakes his head, and the gesture might look quietly endeared if it weren't for every other unsettling thing about him.]
You can say it as many times as you want, but you can't, you just can't! Do you want to know why?
no subject
I do.
[ It's at least an answer to one question, which is more than Ciel has gotten out of the rudeass ghost so far. ]
no subject
I've said it - that it won't work. If your gun is all you have, it's not much, right?
[THAT ISN'T MUCH OF AN ANSWER AT ALL but there you go, Ciel, that's probably as good as it's gonna get. The elevator dings and the doors slide open soon after, but he makes no move toward it, instead canting his head curiously.]
Would you still try?
no subject
Get in.
no subject
But that plan is put on the backburner again, and in "Oz" goes. OH BOY TIME FOR AN AWKWARD ELEVATOR RIDE. He actually seems content to just watch the outside pass by from the glass and even takes the initiative to start walking once the elevator stops on their floor. It is notable that he seems to be observing the place like he's never been there before, though.
Eventually:] Are you still upset?
no subject
[ Ciel says that sourly and immediately, like he had been thinking about saying it this whole time, but he just huffs angrily before unlocking the door and motioning for "Oz" to go in. ]
Would you answer any questions I have, or will you just avoid every single one of them like a damned demon? [ HE HATES SPOOPY BULLSHIT SO MUCH ]
