![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

[She shakes her head. Not much inspires fear in her but well-]
It's starting to sound like something out of a ghost story.

[ zara's gaze floats elsewhere as he recalls what happened that night. There's no mistaking that he saw a figure in that mirror, and the figure shrieked at him - and once he was able to stand up again without the pain being too intense and dizzying, it was gone. Just like a ghost.
Zara doesn't believe in things like that, however; surely, it's just CERES toying with them, as they apparently enjoy doing. ]
Did you... see anything the night you lost your hearing, Natalia?
no subject
In that moment, she understands what Zara's suggesting.]
.... I had thought that a passing nightmare. [But it does explain if that shriek was the cause of her loss of hearing by the next morning.]
Could it truly be... ghosts?
[Well, at least she sounds properly incredulous.]
no subject
Normally, I wouldn't believe in such a thing. However, considering you've healed my ears with magic...
[ it seems wrong to behave as though a supernatural being couldn't possibly have had a hand in this. He doesn't like the idea, but he no longer has the ability to deny it enirely. ]
... I did see an image of what looked like a person in the mirror before it happened. And I heard a loud scream.

We have monsters in my world that can be considered ghosts but they're merely creatures that have the same traits as those spoken of in scary stories. They still don't take the shape of a person and can't be considered as those who have departed this earthly realm....
[But if this place is different then-]
This world truly has too many mysteries. I don't like it one bit.

I'd believe that something similar is at work here. With technology as advanced as theirs, perhaps creating the illusion of a spirit is possible?
[ Zara poses the suggestion in a musing voice, but soon after, he shakes his head. ]
... I could sit here guessing all day, but without proof, it doesn't matter much.
no subject
Well, nothing can be ruled out either, can it?
But what purpose would it serve for them to cast these afflictions on us? I've been told that they're incompetent but it hasn't come up that they're actively malicious.
no subject
Then perhaps it would be best to blame it on incompetence for now. Either that, or a particularly unfunny prank.
[ it seems well in line with the tricks they've pulled before. ]
no subject
I feel as though my faith in their sense of humor as well as their management continues to lessen with every passing day.
no subject
[ although rather than losing his faith, he's gaining resentment for them. Being forcefully kept away from his family for these foolish games is both terrifying and infuriating. ]
no subject
I'm certain... I apologize, Zara. I didn't mean to bring down the spirits even further - I'm sure this is bothering you just as much, if not more.
[She's not the type to dabble in self-pity anyway, but it's true that she's reaching the end of her patience with CERES.]
no subject
[ she's done a wonderful job lifting his spirits, in fact, even if he does feel guilty over not being able to help her. He's failed his job as a doctor when the patient is the one healing him. ]
Besides, I think it's important to discuss these things. Knowing others are thinking the same thing as oneself is encouraging.
