![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

It is possible to bring the dead to life. I am technically dead in my homeland. In exchange for living beyond my predestined time, I paid the price of exile. I can no longer return home.
[ He says this evenly, as if it meant little to him. Which it did. It was only the natural course of events, after all. Philemon is indeed a multiversal being, but it did not strike him as impossible to reverse the biological processes of death.
Not to mention that if they were truly code, restoring from a backup would solve the problem. ]

But you aren't truly a resurrected corpse... You couldn't possibly mean that, could you?

I am not concretely sure of the circumstance, but I presume you can say that, yes. A greater being healed my fatal affliction.
[ He even knows what it is called - or at least, will be called in modernity. ]

[ he repeats the statement in an uncertain voice, regarding Takakage as if trying to tell how serious he's being. Rather unusually for his time period, he included higher powers along with the supernatural in the list of things he didn't believe in. He was essentially claiming a miracle brought him back from the brink of death.
But, once again, having been exposed to magic and spirits (one right in front of him with Takakage, in fact), he finds he no longer can dispute such claims. He merely sighs quietly. ]
But you were exiled from your country for it?

[ The circumstances are difficult to explain, but he supposes he just has to tell the story in full. ]
Before my demise, I visited another nexus point much like this one. Another city where people from different worlds came together, drawn by a cause much more noble than a supposed alien swarm. It was watched over by a being who embodied the sea of consciousness across multiple universe. That being, Philemon, had the power to let us travel between worlds, using our memories as an anchor to find our way.
This anchor is named a String. It is what ties a person to their home realm. Cutting it would release some form of soul energy, which Philemon could use to revive the dead. I am not too sure on the specifics, for he did not tell me - but that was what he did. But without my String, I can no longer return home. I am exiled not only from my country, but from my world.
[ Again, he says this evenly, as if it meant little. ]

I... see. [ his wrinkled brow and hesitant tone of voice suggest that he doesn't really, but that he's at least making an attempt. ] Then you can never go back home...? Or, rather, you no longer exist there at all?
no subject
I know. It's quite complicated, and even I do not understand some parts of it myself. [ But at least he can answer some questions. ] I can never go back home, yes. I can speak to individuals from my homeland, and watch it indirectly - but never interfere.
[ The second question is a bit more difficult to answer. ] I assumed my body still existed, since my son buried me, but I woke up in Hinoto-Ri afterwards. Forgive my ignorance - I am not too clear on the specifics.
[ He says he has a son, and yet he looks at most twenty years old. ]

He feels farther away from home than ever. He'd always thought himself fairly well-learned, but it's becoming more and more obvious that he doesn't know very much at all. ]
No, there's no need to apologize... I'm the one asking all these questions of you, though we've hardly just met. Forgive my rudeness. My curiosity can get the better of me at times.
no subject
[ Not that he would have much of an opportunity to learn about it. Philemon is cryptic at best. ]
I suppose we would need to find the exit, then. Afterwards, we can make inquiries about the process, if we so wish to. If you recall, we arrived in a similar way. [ Finishing ViViD and all. ]
