![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

i look forward to it
[Congrats Oz on getting Shinji to open up a little. He looks more comfortable than before too, shoulders leveled out and back pressed against the bench instead of stick straight.
Maybe Oz's shounen friendship skills will prevail after all...!
And because he is a senpai and Oz has been volunteered into the role of cooking kouhai:]
You been practicing a lot then?
[He is also 100% involved in this chat and too busy to notice the trees. Cue
Jaws themeLOUDER TREE RUSTLING playing in the background.]i wont let u down...
Have you tried a lot of recipes? Do you cook things from other countries? [SHINJI THE SEASONED CHEF. He swings one of his legs idly, looking both interested and curious. As for the question:]
I cook things a few times a week, but I wouldn't mind practicing more. [He just has to balance learning how to cook with making sure his poor loser friend still feels needed in the kitchen...
THAT SAID, Oz may or may not have noticed the shark-like tree rustling going on by now, but doesn't pay it too much mind because how bad can a person's luck be?? (HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER)]
ur too good to me aki
I try a lot of different things, yeah. It all depends on what I can find in the supermarkets.
[And what he can afford. The struggles of poor people without steady sources of income. But ah, the struggles of trying to cook more in the kitchen, how to solve that (without hurting poor loser friends in the process).]
You could start up a cooking club, or volunteer to help out more at dinner. [Not that he knows what Oz does now, but it can't hurt.]
[Meanwhile, the tree's had enough of being simple Background Tree B; a lower branch cracks off and suddenly sails through the air right towards the park bench.
Someone better have fast reflexes here.]
anything for u comrade!!! STRIKES A BATTLE POSE
The ingredients here are pretty weird, aren't they? [For someone from ye olde times, at least... In regard to volunteering:]
I think I could, so— [AND THEN THERE'S THE BRANCH and Oz lets out a startled:] Eh?!! [And the beanie hooligan was right all along.
Luckily he does have good reflexes to an extent... Hopefully Shinji enjoys being tackled off the bench by a small noodle-y child, because that is literally Oz's first reaction.]
SWOONS LOUDLY
Anything Shinjiro's about to say or do in response to the sudden halt of words is pushed aside as he himself is literally pushed off the bench by a kid practically half his size. He lands on the ground with a heavy oof, but recovers quickly enough to scramble to his knees and see—
—a tree branch whizzing away from them to bury itself in the ground some ten feet away.
What the hell?
He stares agape at it for a good five seconds before ducking back down next to the bench. If there are more tree branches about to fire themselves off like nuclear missiles, he doesn't want to be in their way.]
Dammit.
[What do they do now.]
sprinkles smelling salts on u and sends u out to sea...
But Oz just sort of lies on the ground for a second like a useless lump before sitting bolt upright, peeking over the side of the bench. THERE IS STILL SOME OMINOUS TREE-RUSTLING but at least no other branch missiles... yet. Now that it's happened once, Oz doesn't trust that tree at all.]
Uh—!! [...WHAT DO THEY DO NOW.] Should we make a run for the sidewalk?! I think we could make it from here...
no subject
And given that there's no safety, they really should do something other than crouch on the ground behind a lone park bench. (Though, if they get attacked while they're the only ones by the bench and the bench gets destroyed, are they liable for that...? Questions for later, probably.) For now, they've gotta get outta here.]
Sidewalk. In three, two....
[Aaaand--]
Go!
no subject
Once he gets to the sidewalk, he comes skidding to a stop, glancing back toward the Deadly Foliage.]
—It's more dangerous to be out here than it is to be in the city after all.
no subject
Surprisingly, they both make it to the sidewalk with no injury, though Shinji's left out of breath again, palms against his thighs as he bends over slightly. Man, he sure is getting old if this short dashes are tiring him out. Then again, maybe it's just stress getting to him.
Shinji joins Oz in staring at Deadly Foliage and scratches his chin in thought.]
Your place have a lot of stuff in it? Maybe we oughta go places where there ain't anything that could fly at us.
[Like....an empty basement?? Or his apartment, he's a loser with bare minimum furniture.]
no subject
[THEY ARE PREPARED. Mostly because they spent the morning being pelted by teacups and spoons and old dishes that had been left unwashed...]
Is that okay? Or is that still too much... [The litmus test here is Shinji, since he's the one who seems to continuously be attracting this weird shit?! Shinji turn off your bizarre magneticism.]
no subject
Then you head to your place and I'll head towards mine.
[Said like the true shounen hero he should have been!! And besides, it's not like his place is full of crap either - it should be fairly simple for him to hide out and not get attacked by more stuff.
And maybe the unluckiness will be split in half if they part ways?]
no subject
BUT... Since this guy seems like the kind of person who likes to do his own thing, after a few seconds of scrutinizing staring, Oz will just ask:]
Will you be okay?
[Like Shinji is the one here who needs babysitting...]
no subject
Guess he'll just have to learn for himself. (Watch as he immediately gets mauled by a mop the second he gets home....)
But he just nods curtly.]
Yeah. Don't get hit by anything on the way back.
[He cares a little??]
no subject
laughrun to the rescue!!But that's that, or so it seems, and Oz won't hold the poor guy up even longer considering he seems to be the one attracting cups and pots and trees.]
I won't! You take care too, okay?
[He will be checking up later... Or would, if his body didn't run away from him the next day.]
