What: Secrets are revealed--after a bit of (unnecessary) kidnapping.
Rating/Warning: No warnings besides these girls being their usual selves.

[They'd planned to tell Jaune already, but Shiho's worries meant they had to do it even sooner.

It was, unsurprisingly, Kaoru who suggested it. What might surprise the people from back home was that they didn't just follow Jaune on whatever quest he'd decided on. Then again, unlike Minamoto, Jaune had told Shiho what he was up to. It was harder to justify following him secretly when he had done that.

Instead, they decided to lay out their reasons and tell him their secret all at the same time.

But first, they need to get him up to the roofs and clearly that meant they had to kidnap him up there, right? Of course they did. (It wasn't because they thought it would be funny or anything.

Which is why they're just...floating outside his window in full uniform.]

Is this the one, Shiho?

[As far as Shiho was concerned, kidnapping was one of the best ways to talk to someone without anyone else there to listen in. (It wasn't really, but it was familiar to her and if she was feeling too nervous there was always the option of tying the other person up. So.)

Shiho floats, one hand pressed to her skirt while the other presses against the glass of the window.]

Yeah. This is the one. [....were those fluffy bunny pajamas?]

[ Holy crap, he's about to be kidnapped by psychic children!! It's a good thing he's fast asleep and suspects nothing of what's about to transpire. He turns a little in his sheets as he mumbles, but that's it. ]

Mnnmh... w-waffles... mnah...

[Rude. They are practically young women. Even if their team name is still The Children.]

Okay.

[Kaoru breathes out and reaches out without touching the window. When she was ten she would have just shattered it, but Minamoto has taught her better.

Focus on what's actually in your way. It's not the window, only the lock.

All she has to do is unlock it and then--

--there's a click and she pumps her fist.]

Got it!

[Then claps her hand over her mouth because whoops. That wasn't quite shouting and the glass probably muted it, but they're supposed to be sneaky here! She laughs a bit sheepishly before opening the window with a wave of her hand.]

Um. Let's go.

[Shiho had her hand halfway to clapping over Kaoru's mouth before she holds onto her sleeve instead, her voice dropping to a whisper.]

Kaoru-chan!

[She didn't really want to have to use sleeping darts on Jaune while they were kidnapping him. (Mostly because she had no patience to wait for him to wake up again.)]

The roof is empty right now, so let's hurry, okay?

[And while Kaoru grabs Jaune, Shiho hesitates before looking around to see if she can find some shoes for him.]

Okay.

[Technically, she could have just as easily woken Jaune up and done this normally.

But where's the fun in that?

She holds out her hand and, with a whisper of,] Psychiiiiiiiiiic burrito wrap. [uses her powers to wrap Jaune up in his blanket like a burrito. He'll be wrapped up pretty tight except around his head, where the blanket is left loose enough that he can breathe but...yeah. Good luck trying to get out of that if you're awake. Then it starts floating.]

Let's go! [Heading straight for the window, yup and from there...TO THE ROOF.]

[Shiho can't help but to stifle a grin at the Jaune burrito as she reaches down to pick up a pair of what are his shoes off the ground before she lets Kaoru pick her up with psychokinesis, all three of them floating to the roof. (Though she does glance back quickly to make sure Jaune's head doesn't get rammed against a wall or something.)

The sound of her steps is light as she touches down on the ground, setting the shoes down while she's at it.]

[ It's sad that his motion sickness kicks in EVEN WHILE HE'S UNCONSCIOUS, and as they reach the roof, Jaune slowly awakens as if there had been a disturbance in the Force.

At least he's not vomiting. ]

Hnngh.... [ He has yet to realize he's wrapped in a burrito blanket or that he's not even in his bed at this moment. ] Why do I feel....

[ Wait. He sees something, but can't make out the two figures that are appearing in the dark yet. ]

........h-huh? W--hey!!! [ HE CAN'T MOVE??? THIS IS SLEEP PARALYSIS, IT MUST ME. ]

[Kaoru laughed. She can't help it.

When she has that under control, she says (in her best kidnapper voice which is not that great because she still sound fond and amused and so very Kaoru-like).]

Well, well, Mr. Arc. How nice of you to join us.

[There's a brief touch against his blanket just to make sure he's okay before Shiho also steps back, relieved.]

It's just us, Jaune.

[She doesn't bother to hide who she is, just in case he really does think they're kidnappers or something.]

[ But you are kidnappers, Shiho. ]

W-What's going on?! ...I'm not dreaming, am I? N-Not that I dream about this-- you-- like, I mean, there was that one time-- wait, what're we doing here?!

[No way. You're mistaken.]

Wait. What kind of dream was it!?

[This is clearly more important than what they were going to say, okay?]

A-As if I'd tell you! It's-- I can't! Boys only! I mean, wait, no--

[ He looks deeply flustered. It was about ponies. They were all magical ponies and it's embarrassing to admit. ]

Shiho? [ Please put this conversation back on track!! ]

[On the one hand, she really wants to help him.

On the other hand, she has absolutely no idea how to help him. Making things worse comes much more easily to her. And unfortunately, despite everything she's actually kind of curious about his dream.]

Well....That's.... [The only idea she has is to look beseechingly at Kaoru. Please drop this, best friend.]

[Kaoru just grins.]

A boys' only dream, huh. Don't worry, Jaune, I know all about those kinds of dreams. It's all a part of growing up. Perfectly normal.

[Then she flashes Shiho a thumbs up. She just solved this problem like a boss.]

Your secret is safe with us. So let's get back to what we're here to talk about, okay?

Is it really normal… I-I mean, yeah, okay. Let’s do that! Like, let’s start with why I’m kidnapped on top of a roof, h-haha… [ His voice is cracking a little. This is so scary! ] This is another CERES thing, isn’t it? Oh, that silly Mosley…

[ Because there’s no way that these two would be his kidnappers, right? ]

[Why did she ever think Kaoru would solve this....For that matter, why did she let Kaoru talk her into having this conversation in the first place.

But at least Jaune seems to be feeling better about his dream...whatever it was that he had been dreaming about. Feeling like the only responsible one here, Shiho sighs and lets them change the topic.]

It's not a CERES thing. Kaoru-chan and I are here on...official business. [Technically.]

[ Mumbling: ] I'm so lost right now.

[Kaoru clears her throat. If Jaune paid attention, he'd see their capes fluttering dramatically...except there's no wind.

Hey, it's her psychic powers to do with she pleases!]

We represent Babel's only all level 7 super cute, special esper team, the Children.

We're officially letting you in on government secrets here, Jaune.

[ He snorts a little, they are cute, but what was all that other stuff about Babel and government?? ]

Okay, guys, you've had your fun. Can we get back on track?

We are on track. We work for the government back where we came from. And we're both espers.

[Maybe he won't ask what kind of powers she has.....That's what Shiho is hoping.]

We're like a special task force consisting of four people. There's no predicted catastrophe too difficult for us to handle!

[Except that one time when she had to leave Minamoto behind but, shhh, we don't talk about that.]

Espers... so you got like psychic powers and stuff, right? W-Well, I know about Kaoru... [ And Ai recently introduced him to what Espers can possibly do, so thankfully that doesn't need to be explained again. ]

...that means Shiho can move things, too?!

[Shiho is so nervous and resists the urge to hold onto Kaoru if just to know that there was one person who would never shun her.]

No, I can't.

I'm a psychometer. [And because this is Jaune-] I can read anything and anyone that I touch.

[Kaoru didn't reply with, 'I'm the only psychokinetic in the Children!' because that would be outing Shiho and, even though, Shiho doesn't take her hand, Kaoru takes hers. Less a reassurance and more to give her courage.

Then she grins at Jaune.]

Her power is totally cool, right?

[Because there isn't even a shred of doubt in her that Jaune will accept Shiho.]

Anything and anyone you touch...?

[ He turns quiet, trying to remember all the times they've had physical contact between them. Some of it was circumstantial, others were accidental, but for the most part... he really can't recall that many. Probably because it seemed like a normal thing to him at the time, there was no need to put thought into it. ]

Did you read me, too?

[Jaune's gone quiet and this time Shiho really does draw back, putting Kaoru between them as she tries to remember if she had ever touched him with her hand.

....everything she wants to say sounds like an excuse for what and who she is and she ducks to hide her face in Kaoru's shoulder.]

At the hospital. And that time when you were looking for me after the flood. And when you fell out of the tree and I thought you had hit your head.

[Shiho hopes there aren't more than that and tightens her grip on Kaoru's sleeve. She reminds herself that it's best for her to find out now than later.]

[Kaoru half-expected Jaune to agree with her assertion that Shiho was the coolest ever. But in a way this reactiin isn't so surprising either.

She still doesn't believe it will turn into the worst case scenario Shiho fears.

But she tightens her grip on Shiho's hand and she's projectibg her belief that this will all work out. (Because it will. Because it has to. Because even if she likes Jaune as a friend she will not forgive anyone who hurts Shiho.)]

Shiho wouldn't do it without a good reason. You should know that.

Yeah, I do. It's just...

[ There's a long pause again, then he finally looks at them both, eyes more drawn to Shiho who's hiding behind her friend. ]

...it must have been so hard on you, keeping it from me this whole time. I should've seen it! That time you didn't wanna dance with me at the ball... it was 'cause you were didn't wanna read me, right? Shiho, I'm sorry! I've been such an idiot...

[Shiho has Kaoru's hand in a tight grip as she tells herself that no matter what, she had Kaoru there. And somewhere Aoi and Minamoto existed. (And there was that pervert too if she was feeling exceedingly desperate.) That the people who didn't mind what she was were more important than those who did, wondering if she'd have to give back the old shoelace when he looks at her again.

She tells herself that she isn't going to cry as she wipes the back of her hand over her eyes.]

You're not an idiot- [How many times does she have to keep telling him that? Shiho doesn't let go of Kaoru's hand, if only because she's so thankful that her friend was right.]

I'm just...I'm used to it, so I thought you would-

...I thought you would hate me if you found out. [It sounds stupid now that she's saying it out loud but she had been worried, okay!]

[In Kaoru's experience people without powers generally fell into three categories. They were either the Kiritsubo Category (blindly excited about psychic powers and how they were special), the Minamoto Category (people who think psychic powers are special but understand the burden of it) or the Normal People Category (people who hated psychic powers and espers, not to be confused with actual normal people because normal people don't usually join terrorist groups with the slogans like, 'we're normal people so we make normal mistakes!')

So many of the Normal people they've met were either Kiritsubos or Normal People, and even when they were somewhere in between, none of them really understood, not like Minamoto did.

So, honestly, Kaoru had Jaune pegged as a Kiritsubo type. She didn't expect him to be a Minamoto.

And he says he's an idiot.

She pats Shiho's head with a laugh.]

Ah. You made her cry. You need to take responsibility, Jaune!

Shiho...

[ Oh no!! That's the second time he's made her cry to his knowledge, after telling himself that he'll never do it again when it happened the first time.

And she even thought that he would hate her this whole time... ]

I've been... surrounded by amazing people who can do incredible things my whole life. Just an ordinary guy, heh... All I've ever wanted was to be special like everyone else-- like you, so that I could do good in the world. Even my weapon... it's just an outdated hand-me-down, as if I'm borrowing someone else's strength.

[ He carefully (for her sake, not his) rests his hand on Shiho's shoulder while offering her his blanket to wipe her face with. ]

I don't have any powers to call my own, but... I have my friends. You make me believe in myself, and I could never hate you. -- Both of you. I think you're amazing.

[ Not that he holds it against anyone, but he has been told plenty of hurtful things just for being himself.

"I don't want to be in YOUR debt"

"Make yourself useful and be bait"

"You really are an idiot"

Yet, Shiho and Kaoru treated him with nothing but kindness and acceptance. ]

[Some days Shiho isn't sure how she ever managed to be lucky enough to have what she has. Today is one of those days, with Kaoru's hand on her head and Jaune's hand on her shoulder, and she feels overwhelmed and accepted and important to someone despite everything she is and everything she could do.]

I'm not crying.

[But she accepts the corner of his blanket anyway, and knows through it that he wasn't hesitant to touch her because he was afraid. She lets herself relax, the tension slowly leaving her shoulders.]

And you should believe in yourself. You're-

[She pauses and tries to find the least embarrassing word. Sincere? Helpful? Nice? Strong? Reliable?]

....-fine. You don't need powers to accomplish amazing things....you won't need them. And if you want, we'll go get you another weapon. Your own.

Because you're amazing too, you know? [Hide her now, Kaoru.]

[Kaoru would have told her that she deserves every bit of this happiness. She takes her hand off Shiho's head to put it on Jaune's shoulder.]

Shiho's right: you're pretty amazing yourself! And no matter how strong our powers are, there are times when we need to borrow other people's powers. People aren't meant to live and fight by themselves.

And, you know, the person who taught us that, the first one to make us believe in other people again, was someone just like you. He had no powers but he was willing to reach out to us and he accepted us for who we are.

You don't need powers to make a difference, Jaune. I think you can do that just fine just by being yourself.

[ He laughs suddenly, breaking the dramatic moment. He’s been fairly okay with himself recently, he just wanted them to be okay with themselves, too. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side, isn’t it? ]

H-Haha, guys, you’re gonna make me cry, too! It’s embarrassing enough that I didn’t get a chance to change my clothes before you… kidnapped me, hahah… I'm still not sure why..!!

[ It’s said in his usual jolly tone; he doesn’t really mind. ]

[He's not really going to cry, is he?? Shiho actually lifts her head to check and make sure that he isn't and that she doesn't have to share his blanket with him. But he sounds happy and doesn't seem to mind which brings an answering smile to her face.]

It seemed like a good idea at the time? Besides, the pajamas are pretty cute.

[No, but really though...]

...I'm glad I told you, Jaune. Thank you. [And she gives Kaoru's hand a grateful squeeze, smiling softly to her friend as well.]

[In some ways, she's not sure she'll ever be entirely okay with her powers, but they're not going anywhere so she'll do her best to learn to live with them.

But she grins anyway.]

I've never gotten the chance to kidnap anyone before!

[Kaoru is just so happy everything worked out.]

But you can't tell anyone, okay? Our identities are supposed to be a government secret.
