POKEMON BATTLE: IN SESSION_

[ in this session of ViViD is a room— large and widened, reinforced floors of shimmering onyx reflecting the lights from each of its corners, soft designs carved into each plate of smooth stone on the battlefield. the room is set up as a stadium, its enormous middle arena surrounded by hundreds, seemingly thousands of bunks and an open sky that seems so dark, you could very well mistake it for a poorly lit ( vast ) ceiling. for now, all things are in silence, not a single sound to be heard other than the quiet, echoing steps of two trainers down below, a shock of cherry red hair on one side, and a shine of silvery white on the other.

they both look excited.

more lights clap on, shining down to properly illuminate the battle arena, and with that, a grand screen lights up above them for the whole room's easy viewing, from close ups to amazing camera angles, would you look at that. the trainers speak with each other, exchange smirks, and with a fast beat tune beginning to play, surrounding the arena and booming with the beat of one's heart with each drum— it could make just about anyone's pulse race all of a sudden ( especially with the appearance of creatures most would call otherworldly ). the entire room roars with cheers and yells from faceless npcs that were moments ago nowhere to be seen, whistling and clapping for the battle's start.

pokemon battles, man. things are going to go down. ]

[ steven did give silver some time to reflect and take in the loss, but he doesn't want to ignore him completely. they still had to talk, and there were some things that steven felt like he should explain.

with metagross behind him, he approaches silver and his team. he's not here to gloat, and his expression says as much - it doesn't look cocky in the slightest. ]

I could tell that you all battled your hardest. That's more than a lot of people can say.

[ it's natural for younger trainers to think he (and his metagross, of course) are cool, and he knows that. but he makes sure not to let it go to his head, instead making sure that he's a good role model. that's a part of his duties as champion, and he takes full responsibility for it. ]

I'd be disappointed if you did give up. It's not every day that you find someone that can hold their own against the Champion of the Hoenn League.

[ he says it nonchalantly, as easy as if he were saying his name. his smile is gentle, but serious. ]

You're a Trainer to be reckoned with, Silver. This battle was proof that my intuition didn't betray me.

[ oh man, that reaction was so worth withholding that little tidbit of information. he doesn't quite laugh, but that crack of silver's voice and slight flush does bring an amused smile to his lips. ]

Well... I suppose I should say ex- Champion - I was dethroned not too long ago by a Trainer not much younger than you. But she's decided to keep travelling, so I still hold the incumbent title until further notice.

[ he refrains from mentioning his plans to retire from competitive battling completely - it's a little too early for that, and it won't matter very much in this context. plus, he doesn't want to bum silver out. ]

[ now that captures steven's attention. while he definitely doesn't specialize in ghost-types, he's worked alongside phoebe enough to know what they're like. he knows that it's gengar lurking in his shadow, and he can tell that the bond between him and silver is strong.

hm. ]

I assume you're not familiar with the concept of Mega Evolution?

[ it's still a fairly new phenomenon, so he's not surprised. but there's a definite link between the stickpin in his lapel and the stone set into the band around metagross' leg. ]

[ that's to be expected. mega evolution is still a new concept - he's had to teach more than a few trainers about it and what it can do. it definitely isn't because it doesn't exist in silver's world. because that would mean zinnia was right. and that he had almost given the okay to destroy silver's entire world via an incoming meteor.

ha ha. good thing that isn't true. ]

It's the bond that a Trainer and Pokemon share, given physical form. Using a Mega Stone paired with the correct Pokemon and a Key Stone, if your bonds are strong enough, a Pokemon can reach its Mega Evolved form.

[ he takes the stickpin out of his lapel, twirling it between his thumb and forefinger. it seems to glimmer in a way that's almost like it's... pulsating energy. ]

What you saw in our battle was just that.

[ fuck crazy dragon girls tbh. they're crazy.

he knows that silver is dead-set on becoming stronger, so he knows not to mess with him this time around. he'll give him all the information he has about the subject. well... most of it. ]

No - or at least, we don't know that much yet. While being in the final stage of evolution is a requirement, only a small handful of Pokemon are known to be able to achieve Mega Evolution.

[ steven isn't one to beat around the bush in the name of teasing, so he'll meet silver's inquisitive eyes with a smile. ]

You're in luck - your Gengar has the potential to Mega Evolve.

That's right.

[ he watches him think, smile still fresh on his lips. he's not going to say anything specifically, okay. ]

The Gengarite is quite the beautiful specimen - I managed to find a piece of it for my own collection back in Hoenn. But before we get to any of that, I think you still have plenty of training to do.
