[ in this session of ViViD is a room— large and widened, reinforced floors of shimmering onyx reflecting the lights from each of its corners, soft designs carved into each plate of smooth stone on the battlefield. the room is set up as a stadium, its enormous middle arena surrounded by hundreds, seemingly thousands of bunks and an open sky that seems so dark, you could very well mistake it for a poorly lit ( vast ) ceiling. for now, all things are in silence, not a single sound to be heard other than the quiet, echoing steps of two trainers down below, a shock of cherry red hair on one side, and a shine of silvery white on the other.
they both look excited.
more lights clap on, shining down to properly illuminate the battle arena, and with that, a grand screen lights up above them for the whole room's easy viewing, from close ups to amazing camera angles, would you look at that. the trainers speak with each other, exchange smirks, and with a fast beat tune beginning to play, surrounding the arena and booming with the beat of one's heart with each drum— it could make just about anyone's pulse race all of a sudden ( especially with the appearance of creatures most would call otherworldly ). the entire room roars with cheers and yells from faceless npcs that were moments ago nowhere to be seen, whistling and clapping for the battle's start.

pokemon battles, man. things are going to go down. ]

I guess that's one way to put it, yes. My team competes, and I instruct them as their coach. It's a fair comparison.

[ ... Okay, so really, she knows all their names by now, because of how often the trainers yell them, but Otome is a polite soul too. ]
no subject
[ he figures as much, but he likes showing off his cool friends deep down. he's not complaining.
he'll flash them all a knowing look, which must be code for "look presentable and stop stuffing your faces for a second", because they all finish their bites to watch otome carefully. ]
You've seen Skarmory, Aggron, and Metagross already, of course. But Beldum here is a bit too young to battle just yet.
[ his eyes shift over to the one-eyed floating... thing that's levitating by his shoulder. it's a little shy, but friendly enough to chirp out what appears to be a happy greeting. and with everyone introduced, he's finally able to offer her a shallow bow. ]
And my name is Steven. It's a pleasure to meet you.
no subject
With both hands placed on her thighs, she offers a shallow bow of her own, complete with sunny smile. ]
It's nice to meet all of you as well. My name is Otome Yanagiya.
no subject
I must admit I'm a little surprised, Miss Yanagiya. Many of the people I've met who aren't familiar with Pokemon are much more surprised when they see them up close.
[ there were a few exceptions, but that was because they had similar creatures in their worlds. was she the same? ]
no subject
[ Yeah, go ahead, ask her about how her world's been overrun with demons, she'll be happy to talk about how cute some of them were. Even when they were trying to murder her at the time. ]
no subject
she gets it ]
They are, aren't they? That's the beauty of a Steel-type Pokémon... a tough exterior, yet also possessing an undeniable cute side... There's nothing else like them!
[ finally, someone who shares his point of view! he's much less reserved than he was when she approached, looking visibly animated now that she's got him talking about his passions. you've opened pandora's box, otome. ]
It's very pleasant! I'm always glad to meet someone who can appreciate Steel-types for what they are. [ breathe, steven ] Have you encountered something similar where you come from?
no subject
Not exactly like your friends here, but something similar, yes. Some of them were also very cute!
no subject
I see... What were they like, if I may ask?
[ he's calming down a little now, but his smile still betrays his usual calm. ]
no subject
[ Ah, demons... ]
no subject
[ he's a little curious, admittedly. maybe they'd get along with pokemon! ]
no subject
[ Or even fuzzy. Well. Not like Steven's are, either, but his are at least remotely animal-like. ]
no subject
[ are they in balls? they can have a weird monster-demon party or something!! it'll be rad!!!! ]
no subject
[ So no snuggling them. ]
no subject
[ he'll even put them behind his back to prove it. he knows that cuddling a machamp or a gallade wouldn't be the best idea - it just ends up being weird. but his pokemon are much more interested in what she's doing now, their eyes focused on otome. ]
no subject
Kazfiel-- [ Gesturing to the mass of wings ] and Hariti. [ The cloaked woman with the bundle. ] There's someone here who wanted to meet you.
[ The woman floats closer, examining Steven with an interested eye, before she speaks. A pleasure. May our first meeting become a memorable one. ]
no subject
The feeling is mutual.
[ and back to otome: ]
What do you call creatures like these?
no subject
no subject
[ they fight alongside their masters in the same way that pokemon do. they're alike in a lot of ways, but different in many others. it fascinates steven, especially due to the fact that they don't seem to be corporeal - if he saw that right, she seemed to summon them from that device she was holding. ]
no subject
[ NO BIG. ]
no subject
Do they act like that of their own volition, or from the orders of others that control them?
[ there's no such thing as a bad pokemon; only bad trainers that use them for bad things. he wonders if demons are the same. ]
no subject
[ Yes, sorry, there is very much a thing known as a bad demon. ] As I said before, they value strength-- and while you can prove that to them in a variety of ways, the most popular method is fighting.
no subject
[ he'd rather not have murderous demons after his hide, thank you very much!!! ]
no subject
no subject
Hopefully it won't come to that, but I'll hold you to it.
