[ in this session of ViViD is a room— large and widened, reinforced floors of shimmering onyx reflecting the lights from each of its corners, soft designs carved into each plate of smooth stone on the battlefield. the room is set up as a stadium, its enormous middle arena surrounded by hundreds, seemingly thousands of bunks and an open sky that seems so dark, you could very well mistake it for a poorly lit ( vast ) ceiling. for now, all things are in silence, not a single sound to be heard other than the quiet, echoing steps of two trainers down below, a shock of cherry red hair on one side, and a shine of silvery white on the other.
they both look excited.
more lights clap on, shining down to properly illuminate the battle arena, and with that, a grand screen lights up above them for the whole room's easy viewing, from close ups to amazing camera angles, would you look at that. the trainers speak with each other, exchange smirks, and with a fast beat tune beginning to play, surrounding the arena and booming with the beat of one's heart with each drum— it could make just about anyone's pulse race all of a sudden ( especially with the appearance of creatures most would call otherworldly ). the entire room roars with cheers and yells from faceless npcs that were moments ago nowhere to be seen, whistling and clapping for the battle's start.

pokemon battles, man. things are going to go down. ]

silver almost gives an ironic huff of a laugh at the undetermined number, though ]
"A bunch". [ he doesn't have a pokédex, but— ] There're almost 500 of them— that's not counting the one's we don't know about, or the regions farther off.
[ here— he looks a little proud as he gives typhlosion an observing look. ]
Fun makes it sound like a game. it's a profession.
no subject
And, hey, even if it's a job, that doesn't mean you can't love it and have fun while doing it, right?
no subject
before he looks away, shrugs his shoulders. yea sure w/e i's not like i'm not used to this or anything
typhlosion seems to find it interesting, and shuffles over closer to the girl. hello, don't mind his sticky lips! ]
. . . It's a rush. [ it's like you're in it as much as the pokemon are ] Never thought of it as "fun", though.
no subject
[Since he's given the "okay"--at least she thinks so?? That's what the shrug was, right? Sometimes she isn't as fluent in "aloof" as she should be, despite knowing Mako for the better part of a year--Korra sees nothing wrong with adopting a teasing sort of tone as she points that out.
Then, she's grinning and offering a hand to Typhlosion, though she hesitates at touching his head immediately.] Will it burn if I get too close to the fire?
no subject
the tease gets him to make a face, expected in the art of tsun, so quietly . . hpmhing at it. what a grumpy little loser he is. ]
Only if he wants it to. [ typhlosion seems to really want her to pet him— he's not going to stop that. so, he gives a quick wave. ] Go ahead.
no subject
Then, she's shoving that thought aside in favor of bonding with his pokemon.]
Hey there. [She says to Typhlosion brightly, before gently petting his head.] This is really cool.
no subject
but!!! but oh, pets!! yes, good. typhlosion stretches his neck forward to allow for better stroking, and with the gentle contact made, he gives a mixture of bubbling purring and growling— although it's quite clear he isn't really growling! look at his contentedness! he's as warm as a bottled up fire. ]
—Him? [ guh yeah typhlosion is pretty cool ] He was my first Pokémon.
[ and while that had a bumpy start and middle, the future is now. ]
no subject
Oh, he's your first? Does that mean you grew up with him?
[That was how Steven had gotten his, wasn't it?]
no subject
Three years ago.
[ they grew up together, in a way, but. how he got him was something to be avoided— in the past, but he'd rather not bring something like that up right away, or never, preferably.
"yeah i stole him" doesn't really tend to sound heartwarming. ]
no subject
How do trainers like you get your first pokemon, then? I mean, you said something about catching them...
[But she imagines that would be kind of hard when you're facing off with these creatures by yourself.]
no subject
there were pets involved, how was that bad. ]
At a lab, usually. They give out starters to new trainers. Then you go from there.
[ well, he wasn't lying. ]

Your world has tech to transport them--those spheres Steven had on him--so it's not surprising there's a whole process to becoming a trainer. Guess there's a bunch of people who do this, huh?
