POKEMON BATTLE: IN SESSION_
VS

ENTER ?_

[ in this session of ViViD is a room— large and widened, reinforced floors of shimmering onyx reflecting the lights from each of its corners, soft designs carved into each plate of smooth stone on the battlefield. the room is set up as a stadium, its enormous middle arena surrounded by hundreds, seemingly thousands of bunks and an open sky that seems so dark, you could very well mistake it for a poorly lit ( vast ) ceiling. for now, all things are in silence, not a single sound to be heard other than the quiet, echoing steps of two trainers down below, a shock of cherry red hair on one side, and a shine of silvery white on the other.

they both look excited.

more lights clap on, shining down to properly illuminate the battle arena, and with that, a grand screen lights up above them for the whole room's easy viewing, from close ups to amazing camera angles, would you look at that. the trainers speak with each other, exchange smirks, and with a fast beat tune beginning to play, surrounding the arena and booming with the beat of one's heart with each drum— it could make just about anyone's pulse race all of a sudden ( especially with the appearance of creatures most would call otherworldly ). the entire room roars with cheers and yells from faceless npcs that were moments ago nowhere to be seen, whistling and clapping for the battle's start.

pokemon battles, man. things are going to go down. ]

[ well, if it isn't his acquaintance from the network. his voice makes him perk up, along with all of his pokémon. ]

That's the beauty of different worlds, isn't it? What's impossible for one man is an everyday occurrence for another.

[ he flicks his cerevice off, hopping off of metagross to greet him properly. he meets his excited smile with a calm one of his own. ]

Mr. Stark, I presume?

[Well, that's smug. Tony smirks at the answer, because it sounds like a challenge. Why can't he just adjust to the strange things he encounters in Tellus? After all, it isn't like he's never seen something weird or unexpected. It's like Devon is telling him he's not adaptable, and that is just wrong.]

Tony is fine. There's no need to be formal. I'm still trying to figure out how you manage to train living metal. I wish I could visit wherever you're from. I know a few people that would join me, too.

[But he wouldn't invite them.]

Congratulations, by the way. Do you normally do things like that?

[ it is a bit of a challenge, but the way its worded doesn't seem arrogant enough to make him seem disrespectful. that's hardly what he wants, and he wants to see just what this man is about. ]

Tony, then. [ his smile gets just a little bigger. ] It takes plenty of hard work and dedication, but any Pokémon can be trained. I raised Metagross, so we have something a little deeper than that.

[ he gestures to the four-legged creature that he was just resting on, who responds with a gentle grunt and a nod. it's not much of a chatty cathy, but there's a definite mutual care and respect between them. ]

We do. Battles like the one you just saw are common competitions between Pokémon Trainers. It's said that the best way to understand someone without words is through battling them and seeing the relationship with their Pokémon.

[Tony gives the pokemon a curious look, smiling and tilting his head almost in a cheeky gesture. He turns back to continue the conversation.]

So it's like a duel. And they're okay with that? I mean, they're the ones doing the fighting. Don't they get mad when you tell them what to do?

[Not that the pokemon looked reluctant or upset. He's just wondering what makes creatures that essentially have super powers listen to normal people.]

Not usually, no. A relationship between a Trainer and their Pokémon is one of respect - if they don't find you worthy of listening to, they won't. It's as simple as that.

[ beldum wants in on the attention from this new stranger, too! so it'll float past steven's side, examining tony curiously with its eye. ]

But some Pokémon just don't like to battle - for those, there are other competitions that showcase their talents. Keeping them as simple pets is also just as viable of an option.

As simple as that, huh? Respect isn't that simple.

[But he says that playfully. Mostly because he's had such a hard time lately, so Tony personally is feeling the backlash of losing respect. Tony smiles when Beldum floats over curiously. He's already decided he likes him.]

They'd be useful in a workshop, I can tell you that. They'd make work a lot easier. And it doesn't hurt that they put on a pretty good show.

[He winks at beldum as he says that. Since apparently the Pokemon understand human speech too.]

Maybe I'm just taking it for granted these days, then. I've always been able to rely on my partners.

[ he'd trust them all with his life, and he knows that the relationship is reciprocated. it's an opportunity that he wouldn't trade for anything else in the world. ]

They do. I always bring Beldum and a few others along with me when I go caving - their powers always make things easier to work with.

[ hey, beldum likes that attention! it can definitely understand human speech, and will be getting closer to tony to bid for some headpats. can you resist its undeniable cuteness? ]
definingfuture: (T - An involuntary addiction to smiles.)

[How unfair. Tony manages not to look too jealous at that. He has some hard times when it comes to his teams, despite having a lot of ambition for them. It's just Tony's unfortunate like that.

And sometimes a dick, but that's going to remain unspoken too.]

You go caving too? I can't imagine what you'd be able to do here, but that does sound like fun.

[He'll gladly pat the beldum. It seems to be friendly, and Tony has always been more of a social type. He picks up the cue and pets the pokemon.]

If you could carry a light and a camera, you'd be perfect.

I do. Collecting rare stones is a bit of a hobby of mine.

[ understatement of the year - he's a rare mineral caretaker here, and his house back in his home world is literally filled with specimens on display. he's a virtual rock maniac! just don't tell him that.

he can't help but smile at beldum's enthusiasm towards the other. it lets out a happy little chirp, its eye closing in bliss at the pet. ]

We're working on it - with practice, Beldum can use its electromagnetism to levitate objects other than itself. But it's still young, so we have a long way to go.

[personal profile] definingfuture 2015-12-31 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles at the chirping noise. Well, Tony just pet a rock. A floating rock, in fact, but it seems to like it. And he really does like them both.]

Just a hobby, hm? [He considers his own hobbies and that they aren't really hobbies.]

Well, if all of your friends have abilities like this, I'm sure your collection is pretty unique.
