[OPEN] Have a Fiery Birthday

What: it's Rei's birthday! naturally, Ami and Minako have planned a party for her, outside in the Gardens. if you're Rei's friend, you're welcome to attend! party-crashers may be escorted out!
Rating/Warning: none for now, but who knows what will happen!

[Minako takes a step back, hands on her hips, to look at the display before her. a safe section of the CERES Gardens has been sanctioned off for Rei's birthday party. and with the weather always being the same in Cerealia, it's a sunny and warm April day. she grins to herself, checking out the various corners, each decorated with a bundle of red and white balloons so that people can easily find the area.

Ami and Rei would be here soon, as would the guests, so that gives Minako the chance to do one more glance over each of the stations; there's a long buffet table, with most of the food supplied by Archer, while other smaller goodies have been provided by Ami and Minako. the cake is hidden away, for now, out of the sun. Minako's also arranged for there to be a mini stage for dancing, or karaoke. she couldn't pass up the opportunity to perform, after all. and there's so much technology in this world that she had to make use of it! hopefully Rei would enjoy that, even if it isn't her scene.

lastly, there's a gift-table, specifically for dropping off presents. if Minako is right, she's certain that Rei will be getting a lot of them. Rei had made so many friends in Cerealia. so many people seemed to love her and wanted to give back to her. just thinking about how many lives Rei had touched in her short stay here makes Minako's grin widen. she was really lucky to have a wonderful girlfriend. she hoped she could convey her feelings properly, by helping plan this party.

...all right, that's enough feeling sappy! it's time to get this party started! Minako turns on the music (it's classical, lightly playing in the background), and then stands by to welcome guests]

[ Nanoha returns the bow on instinct. She hasn't had to deal with this level of Japanese formality in a while, but it's still part of her, after all. The crows though, will have to deal with small nods. She's not going to bow to what are probably Cybuddies. ]

It's nice. I can tell your friends care a lot about you just from how they've set things up. [ Seriously, it's a huge party. It couldn't have been easy to put everything together, and invite everyone without Rei finding out.

There's nothing odd about openly having powers though! The Masquerade is also something she hasn't had to deal with in a long time. ]

Although I must admit, most people here are a little too young for me. I'm almost afraid that the wine is out in the open!

[Things are different when you're in a world where magic isn't common, and when you're trying to protect someone specific. Their lines of work are vastly different, but then being open about them is what ended the utopian society of the moon to begin with.]

We've all been friends for years. Honestly I'm baffled by the fact that so many people came.

[Though that last comment draws a frown, and Rei rather pointedly drinks from her own cup.]

Really? I'd say most people here are in their early twenties, or are at least eighteen, which is the drinking age.

[At least it was up until 2002 before bumping to 20.]

You shouldn't be. You've been incredibly helpful to me, and I'm sure to everyone else here. [ Besides, it's a party. Who's going to give up the chance to hang out, eat, and drink. ]

I've mostly spotted teenagers around. Inaba-chan, Athena, you girls... Well, I guess Archer's here too, but so is Takeru-kun.

[ She shrugs. Clearly they've just seen different parts of the party. It's not a big deal. That said, there's a pretty big difference between the high school kids and Takeru. ]

Actually, how old are you now? I don't believe I ever checked.

[Well Rei lifts an eyebrow, taking yet another sip before sitting back down and folding her arms.]

I'm nineteen, the same as Athena-chan. Takeru-kun and Alice-chan are young, yes, but the others are all plenty old enough. Phoenix-san and some of the other RSVPs are all older still. Moreover, Illidan, Tyrande, and some of the others in attendance are all several thousand. There's no solid average for the people attending.

[Since she did know the guest list, she'd certainly okayed it before agreeing to the party. This was not really much of a surprise.]

Oh my. Nineteen was... It was a good year for me. Hopefully it'll be as good for you too, but maybe with a bit less tears.

[ That was probably the year of her biggest adventure to date, at least, and she's been in many adventures over the years. ]

But well! I get along fairly well with Illidan and Tyrande I think, although I'm rather surprised that he'd show up for a birthday party. I support I'll have to wait for them to arrive and balance things out.

[ Really though, just because Illidan's ten thousand doesn't make him an adult. ]

I certainly hope so.

[She's had enough tears.]

And is it really that surprising? He's...actually a friend. A decent one, at that. Just a little...awkward. But no more than I am. People aren't his thing.

He's a little prickly, and seems to have trouble with doing anything within the city. But... I don't want to gossip too much about a mutual friend.

[ Even if he's really weird. And doesn't wash his pants. Even though he's worn the same ones for ten thousand years.

Jeez, Illidan. ]

I can confront him in person when he does show up!

Confront?

[That choice of words is strange to her. And Nanoha is questionable enough that she has to ask.]

Oh, it's not a big deal. I just have to check in on his pants status.

[ And ask Tyrande about Operation: Steal Illidan's Pants. She needs to recommend them a laundromat. ]

Do I...want to know?

[She probably doesn't.]

Let's just say he has a problem with a limited wardrobe and leave it at that, shall we?

[ He has one pair of pants. That's apparently never been properly washed. In ten thousand years. It's a thing. ]

Oh. That. I left him a pair of pants but he flew away before Tyrande and I could get him to wear more than the scarf I bought him.

Ah, if I was there I could have caught up to him.

[ Probably. Illidan doesn't fly that quickly, right? ]

I'm not sure how useful a scarf is without a shirt, but at least he seems to be learning slowly.

I wasn't going to force him into pants. That's...a little personal, and rude.

[...seriously.]

It might be, but it's a matter of public safety! Ten thousand years of unwashed pants probably make those things a biohazard.

[ Completely serious. ]

Can we not...discuss this, please?

[This is just sounding more and more absurd. Please stop, before you say something that annoys her.]

Sure! I don't want to think about it, either.

[ Conversational swerve, go! Change of subject! ]

So how are you enjoying your party so far?

It's fine, so far. I'm just happy people are enjoying it.

[Though honestly now she feels a little sad for Illidan. Nanoha, why are you so wacky.]

Just "fine?" We can't have that, you're the birthday girl. You should be the happiest one here!

[ Now, if only she had any ideas on how to do that. Nanoha's idea of a fun night out is probably completely different from Rei's. Because she's kinda wacky. Only a bit! ]

A party is as much about the other people as it is about me.

[Rei is not and never will be a party person. And really? Nanoha's so drastically different that Rei's not sure she could ever truly understand. Not bad, just different.]

But I am enjoying myself, seeing people happy.

It's probably fine to be a bit more selfish, but that's a good attitude to have.

[ And one of the few things Nanoha and Rei have in common. Despite how things look, Nanoha does really enjoy helping others. ]

I doubt that'll satisfy your friends, but I'm sure you can deal with that when the time comes.

I'm sure they already know how I feel.

[They do, it's just her way, and their way. And ultimately, they're the same.

Though from across the party, Rei feels a little storm brewing. Or...maybe that's just Nonon approaching. So...]
