[OPEN] Have a Fiery Birthday

What: it's Rei's birthday! naturally, Ami and Minako have planned a party for her, outside in the Gardens. if you're Rei's friend, you're welcome to attend! party-crashers may be escorted out!

[Minako takes a step back, hands on her hips, to look at the display before her. a safe section of the CERES Gardens has been sanctioned off for Rei's birthday party. and with the weather always being the same in Cerealia, it's a sunny and warm April day. she grins to herself, checking out the various corners, each decorated with a bundle of red and white balloons so that people can easily find the area.

Ami and Rei would be here soon, as would the guests, so that gives Minako the chance to do one more glance over each of the stations; there's a long buffet table, with most of the food supplied by Archer, while other smaller goodies have been provided by Ami and Minako. the cake is hidden away, for now, out of the sun. Minako's also arranged for there to be a mini stage for dancing, or karaoke. she couldn't pass up the opportunity to perform, after all. and there's so much technology in this world that she had to make use of it! hopefully Rei would enjoy that, even if it isn't her scene.

lastly, there's a gift-table, specifically for dropping off presents. if Minako is right, she's certain that Rei will be getting a lot of them. Rei had made so many friends in Cerealia. so many people seemed to love her and wanted to give back to her. just thinking about how many lives Rei had touched in her short stay here makes Minako's grin widen. she was really lucky to have a wonderful girlfriend. she hoped she could convey her feelings properly, by helping plan this party.

...all right, that's enough feeling sappy! it's time to get this party started! Minako turns on the music (it's classical, lightly playing in the background), and then stands by to welcome guests]

[ ...Oh no, he's not supposed to bow back, is he?? ]

Well, of course I made. I mean, I couldn't miss your birthday party.

[ Not after everything she'd done for him. ]

[faithfulflame]

[Nope, he's not Japanese or anything!]

Fair enough. All the same, thanks.

[Patting a chair next to her she sits back down.]

Enjoying yourself? I hope the food and everything is good. I tried to have more than just Japanese food available.

[cryptologic]

[ He hops into the seat, hands still tucked in his pockets. ]

Yeah, I am, actually. [ A pause. ] - I mean, not that I didn't think I would. I'm just not - typically a big party guy.

[ He'd snacked aplenty, and while he wasn't a great judge of party quality, he figures Mabel would have loved it and that's good enough for him. ]

[faithfulflame]

Oh, believe me. [She laughs lightly, settling in for a chat.] I'm not either. This ballooned up a lot more than I thought it would, but all the people here are so nice. It's hard not to be happy.

[Mabel, let's be honest, would have turned it up to 11]

[cryptologic]

[ It's true. There's a reason the Pines Twins were known for having legendary birthdays. ]

You've been here for a pretty long time, haven't you? [ She'd known him from before, and she'd had enough time to make a lot of friends, obviously. ] ...What do you think about having your birthday here?

[ He has a specific reason for asking, even if he doesn't go into it. ]

[faithfulflame]

I don't know if it's a long time. Just shy of six months. But...compared to some?

[Well, maybe it is a long time.]

I think it's alright. I don't really mind, if that's what you are asking. There are people here I wouldn't have back home, and that's pleasant. Why do you ask?

[cryptologic]

[ It sounds like a long time to him. ]

I really haven't been here that long, but Mabel... [ A thoughtful pause. ] I guess sometimes I just think about what it'd be like to be here for a long time. Would it be a good or a bad thing? What kind of person would I be?

[ Just the usual existential quandaries of a barely-teen. ]

[faithfulflame]

It's a bit of an odd thought, isn't it? [Never physically aging, made of code and set up in a specific way forever. She knows that's ultimately her fate, to stop growing at twenty three, but...] I would like to think, though, that we'll be good people. Or better ones, anyway.

After all, we do have a strong sense of community here. Everyone really does pitch in. [A pointed nod towards Illidan Stormrage, a big demon guy...] Take him, for example. He's here, at a party. Because he's managed to make connections that he otherwise wouldn't. That's because of this place, and that community aspect.

[cryptologic]

[ A nervous laugh. ] Y-yeah, really odd. [ And perhaps he's more concerned about being stuck this short for years than he should be. ]

I've definitely made friends here, and met some really cool people, but... [ He huffs out a sigh. ] What if one day you just wake up back home and forget all this even happened? I mean, it still means something, but if you can't even remember...

[ He glances up at her, sheepish. ] ...Sorry. This is proooobably not the kind of thing you want to talk about on your birthday.

[faithfulflame]

[Rei shakes her head, thoughtful, but does laugh off the statement.]

I'd really rather not think about that, you're right. But the question deserves an answer. Because I want to stay here, until the mystery is solved. I don't want to leave with it undone. That's more important than going home, because to be honest? What's to say I won't just come back, and have to start all over again, not remembering what happened the first time.

[cryptologic]

Just like what happened to me. [ It was one of the very first things he'd learned upon arriving in Cerealia, and he'd probably never really be over the fact that he had lost all those memories and he'd never get them back. ]

I don't want to go home until the mystery is solved, either. It's just not something we can really control. [ ... ] Never mind. Seriously. What've you gotten for your birthday so far?

[faithfulflame]

[Rei chooses the better option, focusing on the positive over the negative today. And smiles, even if she has to fake it a bit.]

I've been given a lot of things. But...let's see.

[The thing Dipper would probably be most interested in? She's wearing. Holding up her wrist, she shows a small copper bangle. Nothing ornate, but with an odd shine to it.]

This is really interesting, I think. An enchanted bracelet, from that man. [She points to a tall, thin, elven looking man. And then she pluck something from her pocket. A pair of clay earrings, panda shaped, obviously made by a child.]

But so far? Takeru-kun's gift is my favorite.

[cryptologic]

[ She's right - he is interested in that - well, the "enchanted" part, anyway. ]

Really? Enchanted how?

[ And then his gaze travels to the earrings. Even if they didn't look the nicest, it was evident they had been made with a lot of care. ]

I bet he spent a lot of time working on those.

[faithfulflame]

Well. It lets me hold more magical energy than I otherwise might.

[She had said she was able to use magic, after all.]

It's actually sort of amazing, because it was so simple for him...but I've never seen anything like it.

[And the pandas get a fond tap of her finger before vanishing back into her pocket.]

And yes...they really are lovely.

[cryptologic]

...Sweet.

[ No really, that's super sweet. ]

You're really into pandas, huh? [ WELL that bodes well for the gift he brought her, at least. ]

[faithfulflame]

I am quite fond of them, yes.

[This is an understatement...]

[cryptologic]

Any particular reason?

[ People always have logical reasons for liking stuff, right... ]

[faithfulflame]

They're cute?

[Is that reason enough?.]

[cryptologic]

[ NO ]

Huh. Well? That works, I guess.

[faithfulflame]

I'd hope so.

[Leaning back in her seat, she sighs happily.]

But crows are almost as cute.

[cryptologic]

...Okay, pandas I can get, but I'm not sure I follow on crows.

[faithfulflame]

Well, when I was younger, my best friends were crows. They were with us in the caves, remember?

[cryptologic]

Yeah, but...I guess you just don't typically hear crows called "cute".

[faithfulflame]

Whyever not?

[As if sensing that they're being talked about, Phobos and Deimos both flap down out of the sky and land on Rei's lap, nuzzling her belly and arms.]

They seem affectionate to me.

[cryptologic]

Maybe because they're typically considered bad omens? [ He shrugs. ] I think they're pretty cool, though.
