[ upon kogami's suggestion, akane's taken it upon herself to find a suitable (ha ha) way of celebrating her 23rd birthday! she found the chilling cave by coincidence while patrolling the streets once and decided that she wants to try ice skating.

so after texting the guys (brother, mom, and dad), as well as a couple of friends (really, it's just a couple. she doesn't have much friends) if they're free on the 17th, she waits outside the chilling cave, hoping to meet up with her friends.

it's time… to chill! ]

[ Wryly, glancing over at him: ] I used to say the same to all the children who came in with sports injuries. [ Only without the Latin. ]

I'll remind myself when I'm dealing with the bruises later.

[abhors]

Take your time with the lap now, if you complete it without falling, I'll tell you what I'd like to do.

[ A pause, before he echoes the rest of her words from earlier. ] Within reason.

[mombastic]

So that's the carrot, is it...?

[ A nod, determined, and she focuses her gaze ahead. There'll be a few close calls, but DAMMIT SHE'LL MAKE IT. ]

[abhors]

[ Since she's supposed to do it this time without any help, he'll just stay behind and keep an eye on her from a distance. In the meantime, he lights a cigarette, hoping to finish it before the good doctor returns (look, he was due for one!!). ]

[mombastic]

[ He really might make it. Otome's taking it slow and gradual, only slipping a few times, but catching herself in time before she approaches him.

... And slides right past him, because she's still not very good at stopping. ]

[abhors]

[ There's an empty can of soda on the side and Kogami drops his cigarette in it before skating his way towards her. ]

That was pretty close, I had my doubts for a second.

[mombastic]

You shouldn't underestimate doctors, Kogami-san. We don't stay down easily.

[ Rather, maybe it's just Otome who's stubborn. But she's still pink-cheeked from the effort and beaming and totally pleased with herself. ]

[abhors]

My mistake.

[ Her efforts get a little smile out of him, too. Sometimes the best way to get a workaholic's mind off work is to give them small distractions like these. ]

It looks like you don't stop that easily either. [ Both figuratively and... skating-wise! ]

[mombastic]

Sometimes it's just easier to not think about stopping. [ figuratively. ] And I can't really do it as neatly as you can. [ literally. ]

[abhors]

I suppose it's time for me to deliver my end of the bargain.

Dr. Yanagiya. [ So formal. ] If you have the time, I would like us to meet again at some point in the week, so we can get to know each other more in person. [ There, he got his "glory" by being the one to ask!! Though it's vaguely worded - is it a date? ]

[mombastic]

[ That was the vaguest most formal-- and Otome suddenly laughs, barely managing to refrain from shaking her head at just how bad at this he is. ]

Should I say 'request granted'? I feel like 'yes' wouldn't match your formality well enough, Kogami-san.

[abhors]

[ He rolls with her humor, even though his face is as straight as ever. ]

Should we shake hands on it?

[mombastic]

[ Solemnly extends her hand. Did he think she wouldn't-- ]

Careful, I hear this makes things binding.

Binding, you say. Just wait until I draw up the contracts.

[ From an outsider's view, it almost looks like they're doing an actual business deal, especially with the way he carefully takes her hand (she's a doctor, it's valuable!) and shakes it to seal the deal. It's all cool and suave, until-- ]

[ --a snowball hits the side of Kogami's face. Looks like some of the kids are getting too into it outside of the rink. WAS IT GINO???

He'll just pretend that didn't happen. ]

[mombastic]

Oh my-- [ Too bad Otome's already digging in her coat pocket, and pulling out a handkerchief to press to his face and start clearing the snow away. Her voice has the solicitous tone that she uses on panicked patients, but she's also trying very hard not to laugh. ]

I think someone over there wants your attention.

[abhors]

It's fine. [ He stops her from wiping his face by placing his own hand over the one that's pressing his face. There's a brief silence as they just exchange looks until...

ANOTHER snowball hits Otome in the shoulder now. Those pesky kids! ]

[mombastic]

... Ah. [ Ruefully, glancing down at her shoulder and not at the hand he's keeping on his face (handkerchief included). ]

It looks like they like me too.

[ Maybe they should go greet them.

WITH REVENGE. ]

[abhors]

[ Thoughts of revenge are always best plotted with Kogami around. ]

I hope you throw better than you skate, doctor. I'll need the backup.

[mombastic]

Oh, don't worry, Kogami-san. I throw better than you dodge.

[ What mature adults. ]

I'm just taking a couple of hits for you - it's my job.
