[ upon kogami's suggestion, akane's taken it upon herself to find a suitable (ha ha) way of celebrating her 23rd birthday! she found the chilling cave by coincidence while patrolling the streets once and decided that she wants to try ice skating.

so after texting the guys (brother, mom, and dad), as well as a couple of friends (really, it's just a couple. she doesn't have much friends) if they're free on the 17th, she waits outside the chilling cave, hoping to meet up with her friends.

it's time… to chill! ]

...It's my way of saying that it would be better if someone were around if you tripped and fell on the ice.

[ translation: 'ask me for something because it's hard being tsun when the person you're being tsun to is so selfless'. ]

[ WHY ARE YOU STILL IN TSUN MODE?? ]

[ in fact, she's actually good at ice skating! ]

...I'll believe it when I see it.

[ And there it is, the faintest trace of something like a wry quirk of his lips... the tsun is finally thawing a little?! ]

[ carrying the gift with her, she heads on inside to where the rental booth is. and when she realises that she probably went there too quickly and left adolf behind, she looks back at him and waves. ]

[ Ah, how cute... he lets her trot on inside, because it's only natural that she be excited for something like this, and when she turns to wave at him, he blinks and nods back. His hands twitch inside his pockets, wondering if he should have waved back. Would that have been too familiar...?

But eventually, he makes his way next to Akane and pulls out his cash card to pay for two skates. Two skates!!! He's not going to let Akane pay for these things on her birthday... ]

[condoner]

[ YOU SHOULD HAVE WAVED BACK, ADOLF. you should've!!! not that akane minds, either way. ]

Eh? Are you sure?

[zitteraal]

[ THAT'S LIKE, LEVEL 60 DERE... HE HAS TO WORK HIMSELF UP TO THAT LEVEL!! He's going for like, level 20 dere right now, as he hands Akane her skates. ]

It's your birthday.

[ Accept it...!! ] Someone else would have done it for you, if I didn't.

[condoner]

This is so nice of you, thank you.

[ she takes the skates and heads over to a table where she can sit down and put them on!! EXCITING STUFF *^*!!! she's done this before with her friends, but it's a lot more different here in this place. ]

[zitteraal]

...It's only for today. So you should take advantage of it while you can.

[ As if he hasn't already relented like 50 times in the past with Akane... who is he even trying to kid at this point. But here he goes, sitting down to pull his own skates on.

Once he's done and he tries to get up on his feet, he... wavers a little, thanks to a combination of feeling mildly under the weather and not being used to this. No... he can't be so lame in front of Akane?! Be strong, Adolf Reinhardt. ]

[condoner]

[ well, she would never take advantage of it! GOSH... she doesn't make a comment about it, though, and instead just gets up and starts walking. ]

Are you alright? [ she asks when she catches up to adolf. ] Apart from not being used to ice skating, anyway...

[zitteraal]

...I'm fine.

[ This month is hard for a pure eel, he feels sick and he doesn't even know why... it's a good thing he's covered up the way he is.

Bracing himself on a few benches, he stands up straight and tries to walk over to the entrance to the rink. How do some people make this look easy, he's a military man and he's still having Trouble. ] ...You don't have to wait for me, go skate if you want.

[ he's sure she doesn't want to continue watching a giant eelman struggle on his feet... ]

[condoner]

Well, if you're sure. . .

[ she'll head into the ice and start skating. she does actually very well, but she looks back every now and then, worried for adolf.

something seems wrong. ]

[zitteraal]

[ Well. As expected, Akane is handling herself well, and he himself is... he's not pathetic, but he sure is making his way across this rink with one hand brushing against the wall for balance.

It might have been better if he was in better health, but this is fine. At least, that's what he tells himself as he wobbles around... He's mostly looking down at his own feet to make sure he's balanced, though. ]

[condoner]

[ she slides next to him, hands behind her back. ]

You'll trip if you keep looking down.

[zitteraal]

...It might make for a laugh.

[ If he trips, he means. He wobbles to a halt, braces himself against the glass paneling next to him. ]

Do I look that unsteady on my feet.

[condoner]

Yes.

[ hey, she may be blunt, but at least she's truthful. ]

Now, don't look down. And take it slow, one foot at a time.

[ she points to her feet as she demonstrates slow sliding movements. ]

[zitteraal]

[ This is...maybe a bit embarrassing, but the alternative is looking like even more of a weenie, so he complies— slowly sliding one foot in front of the other, keeping his eyes locked on Akane. Perhaps too intently... he's so serious. ]

—Like this?

[ He successfully manages not to look so wobbly!! What a good teacher, Akane. ]

[condoner]

That's the way.

[ look at you, adolf!! skating like a... well, non-pro! ]

Don't bend forward too much, either. [ you know, just in case he does. ] And bend your knees a little bit.

[zitteraal]

...You would think 20 years of training would prepare you for something like this.

[ He's going to try not to pitch over and accidentally grab onto Akane... he'd probably bring her down with him?! But at least he doesn't look like a giant bow-legged Bambi anymore. ] Straight back, bent legs. Simple enough.

[condoner]

[ she laughs a bit. adolf's doing well, and that's not what's funny! but she never imagined adolf to make a comment about his training. (not that she knows a lot about it, or him.) ]

I don't think anybody can be truly prepared for something like this.

[zitteraal]

[ He's ~secretive~, aka a sad nerd who doesn't like talking about himself... or doesn't really know how?? in all honesty. But at the very least, he can be somewhat more casual with Akane. ]

But you chose this anyway. [ He's joking... joking...

But, he adds in complete deadpan:] Is there someone's hand you wanted to hold as you were skating.

...Isn't that what these places are for.

[condoner]

[ oh my god. oh my god. adolf is lucky that akane isn't drinking anything, else she would have spittaked. instead, she just starts laughing out loud while skating backwards. ]

O- Oh my gosh, no, of course not, hahahaha...!

[zitteraal]

[ Ah... did he say something weird?? He almost slips on his feet when she starts laughing, but thankfully manages to steady himself. ]

...It shouldn't be too far-fetched. Unless you really are married to your work.

[condoner]

I am not!

[ yes, she is. ]

I just haven't found the right person yet, that's all.

[zitteraal]

[ He makes a vague sound here, between a 'hn' and a 'mm'. ]

...Well. These things take time.

[ He would know, really. But he also looks to the side and catches a glimpse of Kogami, who he talked to briefly... ]
