You're probably woken up by the explosion first. A loud, deafening boom comes from behind the walls of the residential district. When you look outside your window towards the darker, more secretive area of the city, you might see the structure around it... crumbling, the land falling in on itself slowly but surely. That might be what wakes you up first. If it doesn't, you may be awoken instead by the sudden jerking feeling behind your navel pulling you from where you are to somewhere... else.

It's dark. The first thing you notice is that it's dark -- and then come the scrabbling sounds of creatures in the dark, like metal being dragged across metal, a chilling, sharp sound. The first thing that becomes clear, as your vision adjusts, is that you're on a rickety pathway, metal and rusting and frail, above what appears to be yawning blackness. Far, far below, there's the faint sound of rushing water, a ways away.

The second thing that becomes clear is that you are very much not alone. Something is out there with you, and from the screeching metallic noises that come ever closer, it seems to be stalking you.

Thankfully, you're not alone -- right?

...

...........

................

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ??? ] It’s drafty here. You’re below ground, that’s for certain from the echoes of the wind in the darkness. If you continue on forwards along the rickety, metal railing that serves as a walkway, the skittering noises of creatures in the dark follow -- but they don’t appear.

It seems everyone has been dumped along this pathway at random; you may be with friends, with enemies or with someone you’ve never met before, but either way, it soon becomes clear. There are only two ways to go along this path: up or down.

If you choose to take the path that follows a gradual slope down, the sounds of water lapping against a surface increase bit by bit, the air growing heavier and danker, until finally, the metallic platform gives way very suddenly (watch your step!) to a muddy bank. Down here, everything is darker, and not far away there’s the water. It’s cold and frigid and there are unfriendly creatures that await if you choose to delve into it. However, if you brave those creatures, and dive deeply enough, there is a mask. It rests half-buried by silt and rocks, but it’s there, and can be found by any intrepid explorers.

Somehow, it feels a little familiar.

And if you carry on in the cave system underground, eventually you will come across what appears to be an altar. There is blood on it -- not fresh, but not more than a month old -- and pieces of trinkets. Old bits of cloth, locks of hair, and some of them may even be familiar. Any dropped character who has a reasonably large amount of spiritual or magical power may have left scraps, such as pieces of clothing, trinkets, hair, or the sort behind at the altar.

Maybe that's why they weren't in the Nexus Code.

PHASE II

[ ??? ] If you go up, you will eventually make your way above ground. It takes some time, and some luck -- you’ll have to avoid rusty railing and pathways, the path crumbling under you and that creeping sensation that something is following and watching you -- and then you’ll suddenly be in fresh air.

Well. It’s not so fresh, really.

The landscape is broken down and crumbled. It may have once been part of the city of Cerealia, but now it is in utter disrepair and decay. Buildings have crumbled, and debris is everywhere. There are signs of the same level of technology that Cerealia has -- but it is all broken down and utterly inaccessible.

And you’re not alone.

It seems the technology and metal and broken down destruction has gained sentience over its time sitting alone, waiting. And it is not happy to be disturbed. The creatures are made of pieces of everything around them, and when cut down, they’ll just slowly rebuild themselves from the debris.

It might be time to run.

They aren't happy about being disturbed, and you're in their way.

PHASE III

[ ??? ] Above ground, there are a lot of broken down buildings.

Some can’t be accessed at all; some are too broken, too reduced to rubble. For those looking for shelter, they'll be able to find buildings where the doors can be forced open and they can camp out on the inside to various degrees of stability. Though the ceiling may cave in or the floor fall out from under you at a moment's notice, it's better than being out there. Be careful, because none of the architecture here can be trusted anymore.

And other buildings... are even less trustworthy than that.

There is a series of buildings in the midst of the wasteland, somehow still standing. They stand there silently, towering over the rest of the rubble in their two-story glory, and if the doors are forced open, it soon becomes clear that the building itself is full of mirrors.

Once, the mirrors had perhaps covered the walls and ceiling. Once, this building might have been akin to something of a ballet studio, somewhere to express yourself creatively. But now the mirrors are shattered and broken into pieces and the building lacks the joy it might have once held. Shards of mirror cover the floor, some big, some not so big, but they still hang from the walls as well and everywhere you look, you can see yourself.

And then, the reflection changes. From one blink to the next, you see a memory playing in the mirrors. Your memory. You’ll see a glimpse of one of your most traumatic or life-changing moments, broken up but clear in the shards. Blink and look away, and it’s gone, only to show up again in the next mirror a few moments later. Surely it’s just a trick of the light, right?

Except if someone else is with you, they’ll see it too -- and you might end up seeing a bit of their own past as well. Hope you're fond of sharing.

PHASE IV

[ ??? ] If you survive the monsters, the crumbling landscape and the untrustworthy buildings, you may eventually find a terminal. It is buried deep among the rubble. One turn around a corner, one stumble into a hole, and you will find it. It sits there, out in the middle of nowhere; the building in which it used to be housed is apparently long gone, reduced to nothing but rubble.

And if you turn it on, there is a brief message.

Transmission Broadcasting.

Transmission Connected.

And then, there is a face.

BONUS

[ ??? ] For those who have been wearing their masks a little too much, they might also start to notice that there are some strange effects attached, which worsen the more they’ve been wearing said masks. How badly they worsen is up to your discretion.

➝ Broken Mask: An intense feeling of paranoia, focused on whoever your character is with. They might also begin to remember fabricated memories of being betrayed by those people.

➝ Barcode Mask: Everything will begin to have value to them. There will be whispers in the back of their mind of the worth of their friends, the worth of a monster, the worth of everything around them. An intense need to own and consume as much as possible and as quickly as possible.

➝ Dripping Blood Mask: An intense lack of self-worth, a hollow feeling and thoughts of being weak and empty. Feeling as disposable as possible and an intense listless along with it.

:( Mask: A need to prove yourself, to show everyone how strong you are as quickly as possible. You can do things, you can be of worth to everyone around you. Why won't they see that? Why?

➝ Ivy Mask: A choking sort of terror from all things metal and technology based, and a need to lash out against it. An intense distrust for anything that they feel is against the laws of nature.

➝ Grey Mask: More personable than normal, more emotional, more empathetic. An intense feeling of kindness and gratitude to those around you and a renewed love of life.

➝ Feather Mask: A dulled, lack of emotion. A detached feeling to everything around you. A sort of bland curiosity towards things without any empathetic reaction.

➝ Bloody Fingerprints Mask: They'll feel absolutely fine. No change.

The effects of the broken mask can stack on top of the others, if they chose to break their mask after the other effects began to appear. No other effects can be stacked, as no other changes can be stacked.

PENALTY

[ ??? ] For characters who die while in the dark parts of the city, things will get... a little strange. They will die as normal, but they will wake up almost immediately after their death -- in the Nexus Code. They will have a few surreal moments to be there, to see their friends who have left Cerealia hanging lifelessly from odd, glimmering strands (though there are some faces, of course, that are missing, anyone who was spiritual, or magical, seems strangely absent) and then --

They’re back to being dead.

When characters revive in Cerealia, anywhere from one IC day to three or four IC days later, they will find that things are… not quite right with their code. They’re glitching, for a lack of a better word. Sometimes, their fingers will phase right through an object, their own limbs registering as cold and lifeless. Sometimes, they will see a face watching them -- but when they turn around to try to see who it is, the face will be gone.

These effects will last an IC week, before slowly things go back to normal.

That was strange.

[ The terminal flickers to life, and there's a message:

Communication Transmission Beginning.

And then, on the screen, there's an alien with a mask. It's clear that whatever it is, it isn't human; while it stands upright, there is no uncovered skin, and nothing can be seen behind the mask or dark clothing.

On the mask, there is a smile.

Comment here if you'd like to attempt to contact the mysterious masked alien! There's definitely a bit of a puzzle to getting them to be willing to chat, but there must be some way, right...?

Hello? Anybody there?

[ but then things change. suddenly, the mirrors begin to project a large fire. debris fall from the ceiling, and there's tadashi running around the fire to get to somewhere. and then there's an old man just not too far from him. tadashi calls out "professor callaghan!"

but then there's some squeaking noises. they're coming from above. tadashi looks up to find a metal bar which was holding up the ceiling, now falling on him and breaking his neck, thus killing him.

BONUS
[ it's never been like tadashi to have the urge to prove his worth. true, his self-esteem may have been shot when he had died and gone back to life, but it's still not any reason for him to crave attention or demand that everybody appreciate him.

so what's gotten to him now?

oh, yes. he wore the mask.

above ground, he'll be trying to fix things. he has no idea what he's doing, but he's cleaning up the rubble, carrying them from one place to another so the mess will be soon gone, and when he spots somebody? ]

Phase II
[She was going up. It made sense to go up, right? Assuming this wasn't a giant flying mound of dirt, she'd make it to the surface and out of all this muck eventually. So she climbs upwards, too dark to really see what was going on.

Until it isn't. There's light. It's faint, but it's there, giving her the strength to keep moving. She can see the gunk on her clothes, and the rust littering the walls. It's a good thing she tried to avoid those railings. You never know if they're booby trapped or something. Or at least that's the excuse she'll make to avoid getting even dirtier.

On the surface, the world she finds is not much unlike the ruins of her own. Broken down, abandoned, sitting in a rust-covered stasis to continue seemingly forever. This is definitely not the city she has been living in for the past month. This is a place that screams "danger", and she's not exactly thrilled at the thought of being alone right now.

And then... a noise. A shifting of scrap and rock as the landscape rises up to defend itself. A golem, some sort of hulking beast, bursts from a pile of rubble to strike her down. Thinking quickly, she leaps backwards to avoid the strike, but its clear that the monster isn't going to give up so easily.

So, fight time?]

Phase III
[This place seemed so familiar. An art house of some sort, maybe. A place where dances were rehearsed, songs practiced. She walks the halls of shattered glass, taking care not to cut herself.

She thought of the White Castle, the last performance she gave before leaving for Beacon. Her fight with the armored guardian. All of that seemed so long ago, so far away now. In a way, it was. That world was gone, as far as she knew. Maybe gone forever. Still, she knew she had to keep that world in her heart if she were ever to see it again.

But something catches from the corner of her eye. A flash of white, a bit of sound. She turns, and it is gone. But it returns again moments later. A glint of light off a mirror? No, this one continues, like watching a movie. Moments with her sister, learning to be a Huntress, going to Beacon and meeting the people who would eventually become her friends and teammates. Whatever this place was, it knew her, and it knew her life.

She continues down the hall, now more intrigued than anything. Just what did this place really know?]

Bonus
[Those who are with Weiss may notice her being more... intense than normal. She tries to do everything on her own and grows incredible defensive if someone offers their help. She doesn't need your damn help, she can do everything on her own. She's strong enough, she's smart enough, she's the best there is, and she'll prove it to all of you once and for all.

As the days go on, she starts wearing the mask more and more. First it's an accessory, dangling from her arm. Then something she wears on the side of her hair. Doesn't it look good with her outfit? If only it was cheerier. Towards the end of the excursion, however, she's wearing it over her face, only speaking to talk herself up or tell someone else off. She grows increasingly more distant (distant even for Weiss), and grows violent if someone does or says something that may suggest they're better than her. Like... offering her water, or holding a door for her. Sneezing in her general area, etc. How dare you!!]

Phase II

[Obviously the only way out is up. That's how it worked in the TV world and that has to be how it is here. So she goes completely unarmed and stepping lightly to the surface. She pauses to look at the area, not at all understanding what it is she's seeing…until she realizes the mechanical creatures are in front of her.]

Persona!

[Kanzeon's summoned forth and gets Rise out of the way, but not far enough. She'll collide right into someone else, but she knows she has to get them out of here. She'll take whoever by the hand and pull them to run.]

Let's go! We can hide out this way.

Phase III

[Successfully outrunning the creatures Rise finds herself carefully stepping through the rubble of the buildings. She'd gone to seek help and scout, find friends or people who need help and it's then she comes across an oddly suspicious building.

She doesn't sense anything malicious about it though, and though it's an effort she manages to push herself inside. She's used to studios like this, used to practicing in them and watching herself dance and perform.

However. She approaches the mirrors and steps over the glass, peering at the shards on the walls for a moment. It's not long before it changes and she finds herself watching something horrific. She backs away in surprise, tripping backwards and landing on a few shards of glass. The glass cuts her hands and her arms a bit and there's a cry of pain as she sits up, staring at the mirrors that've now gone back to normal.]

What…what the hell was that?

Wildcard/Telepathy option

[Honestly, it was fairly obvious something terrible was going going to happen, because it inevitably always does. Fushimi has been lucky, if that's what it could be called, not to have already suffered a serious injury so far, but by the time he's made it aboveground, he's already sore and over the whole experience.

Not that things are much more promising now, but at least it's better than being below. Or, it seems to be, until the hulking residents(?) of this part of the city appear to be disturbed just by having others around. It's a great time to not be carrying any weapons, really, and he he doesn't even bother clicking his tongue, because it's obvious those things are out to destroy, and fighting them would be a terrible option. Great.]

phase III

[This shelter seems slightly better, but he's not going to get his hopes up. When all of the choices he could make about where to go are likely to end up being awful no matter what he chooses, Fushimi figures that at least a semi-standing building is worth investigating.

It's delicate, moving around and trying not to stomp right over all of the debris and broken glass, and he's both watching his surroundings and watching his steps. That is, of course, why he notices that the reflections don't look right; a half-seen glimpse of figures moving around in them that don't belong there.

What could that have been?]

No one ever listens to me.

[Viridi sighs listlessly as she stands in the middle of the ruined landscape and watches the mechanical monstrosities approach.]

'We're not destroying the natural world! We're just improving on it!' 'We need these resources for our better creations.' 'Don't worry, Viridi, it's called civilization. We're not abandoning you.'

Now I don't know exactly what moral to take away from this, but I'm thinking it goes something like...

Technology drools, nature rules.

[And for the first time in eons, the little goddess cracks her knuckles and actually bothers to attack of her own volition. With a whirl of her staff, a beam of light arches forward and smashes into the nearest monster, ripping its fragmented arm clean off. Viridi forms a gun-shape with her left hand and blows on the smoking end.]

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Could work a little on the aim.

[III, Part I]
[The mirrored shards reflect fleeting images of memories that were perhaps better forgotten. But one person, at least, has no aversion to what they're seeing. Viridi sits cross-legged, hovering in the middle of the wreckage as she scoops grapes into her mouth.]

Play it again...!

[Viridi smiles fondly as the shards continue to reflect her most important memory... The moment the Reset Bomb strikes the earth and wipes out the warring armies appears over and over and over.]

Ahahaha...! My greatest moment. It's so nice to have your work remembered.

[III, Part 2]
[Whenever she's finished admiring her own handiwork, Viridi can be found setting up camp in one of the abandoned buildings. ...Except it doesn't particularly look like an abandoned building anymore. On the outside, the only peculiar thing about her chosen haven is that the crumbling concrete appears to be covered in ivy; stepping inside, however...]

Hey!

Don't step on the flowers!

[It's like walking into a miniature forest. Viridi reclines from an enormous palm leaf slung between two small trees, sipping juice from a coconut and fanning herself with another leaf.]

What? I'm not moving. I refuse to go any further into this me-forsaken hellscape than I absolutely have to. Go find your own wreck to remodel.

[the sound of the explosion had only barely woken stahn up—just enough for him to stumble out of bed and grab dymlos, because that has miraculously become his first instinct to that sort of sound (well, that and the ringing in his ears that comes from dymlos sternly yelling at him, though that's less prevalent). he barely even has time to process what's happening before he's pulled from the apartment.

he's dumped not far from the split in the pathway, and mostly? stahn is just standing there looking groggy and puzzled.]

Heeeh....? [he should definitely be a lot more alarmed than he is, but the truth of the matter is waking stahn up is difficult, and he's almost positive he's dreaming. naturally, he's being reprimanded by dymlos—those who can hear him will probably be able to catch that from a distance.

of course, this is also why he's thoughtlessly rambling sleepily to his sword with little regard for the fact that most people can't hear it.]

Stop yelling, Dymlos... even in dreams, you nag too much... [stahn, that's not what's happening here at all. eventually, he'll elect to take the up path, but for now... for now, it's this.]

( phase iii; )

[he managed to wake up eventually. and somehow, he's gotten above ground relatively unscathed—a few scratches and bruises, but nothing he can't handle. he's not really sure what to make of where he is; it's dangerous, and stahn is treading very carefully. his curiosity gets the better of him and he uses dymlos to force the door open.

the fact that there are mirrors everywhere is equally curious, but not too ominous until the imagery changes. reflected in the mirrors is the darkness of a cave that's in the beginnings of collapse, and the picture of stahn and a group of others rushing towards an elevator. in the near distance, reflected clearly, is leon magnus, separating himself from the group to a large operation switch. the imagery continues until leon is out of stahn's sights... and it's terrifying.

all stahn can do is let out a quiet, horrified gasp—this is something he relives in his nightmares often enough, but to see it reflected with this kind of clarity in front of him leaves him breathless in a very bad way. he's shaken, enough so that he won't notice if someone else is there to witness the scene; he barely even notices when dymlos is trying to call stahn back to his senses.]

( wildcard; )

[if you've got another scenario along the way, by all means throw it at me!]

( phase ii; closed to [personal profile] discard )

[getting to where he is now hasn't been easy. if anything... it's been traumatizing. stahn is exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally. he's worried about leon and his other friends, both the ones he already had and those he met along the way. he's hungry...

but most importantly, he presses on not just to find a way out, but to make sure leon is okay.]

Dymlos... have you heard Chaltier's voice yet at all? [it's probably a pointless question when he'd be able to hear chal too, even if leon wasn't in earshot.

"I'd have told you if I did, you know that."

and stahn does know that. so he sighs an presses forward until he does see that familiar form moving in the distance. it's leon. he's alive.

though before he can breathe out his relief and say as much, he's interrupted:

"Stahn! Behind them!" —he notices it just a second later as well; it's a metallic monstrosity and it's aiming right for leon. and though he's sure leon's battle prowess won't leave him ignorant of the threat, stahn's feet are carrying him at top speed before he can even consider that, drawing dymlos properly and letting the heat begin to emanate from the blade.]

Leon!! Look out!! [in stahn comes, to try and leap right into the line of fire to make sure leon doesn't get killed. as one does, of course.]

[It's kind of chilly with that breeze down here...she shivers, rubbing her arms, still just wandering forward with half-open eyes.

Hopefully she doesn't bump into anyone, it's kind of fragile and rickety here.]

phase i-b

[She didn't really intend to go down. It just sort of happened, because one moment she was tramping along curiously, everything dark and pretty much unable to be seen through, and the next the pathway is crumbling underneath her.

That's unfortunate.

She manages to grab onto the edge with a startled yelp, but in the process of swinging herself back up onto the path, she...just ends up breaking more of the rusted metal with the force of her swing.

Oops.

So now a good portion of said path is falling, possibly with you on it. SORRY. For her part, Ruby just swings her weapon downward and fires a sniper shot at the ground below, slowing her own descent to the point that she won't get hurt when she lands in the mud. Cheater.]

phase ii

[Are you being harassed by one of those monsters? Are you in danger? Were you handling it just fine on your own? Either way, there's now a Ruby Rose flinging herself at the monster, unnecessarily giant scythe out and ready to slice off limbs.

Farewell, monster limbs.

She lands neatly, looking up quickly.]

You okay?

[Except there may not be time to answer, because there's the screech of metal on rock Ruby frowns when she glances over her shoulder to see the monster putting itself back together.]

Hey, wait! I just cut that off!

[It doesn't seem to care.]

[Phase Ia]

[Uh yeah keep going higher in a dank dark black pit who knows how deep on a rickety bridge that may or may not at some point give out beneath his feet? LOL no. Namur is a creature of the water and the water is where he belongs, even if it means butting heads with weird toothy nasties. He's just as weird and toothy so whatever. He's making his way down. There's a lot of moisture on the metal pathway, and he slips on it more than once, having to grab wildly for a handrail or something to keep from dropping a little faster than he intends. Some places it's not even worth trying to walk, he just lays on his chest and coasts, slip'n'slide style. It's... kind of fun?]

WOOHOO YEAHHHH!!!

[He skids to a stop when he smells someone near and sits up carefully, bravado and adrenaline pushing cowardice aside for the moment.]

Headin' down? C'mon, we'll make it awesome!

[Phase Ib]

[Oof! The platform giving away to mud takes him by surprise and he nearly winds up falling on his ass in the darkness. But that's okay. If that's all the farther he's got to fall, so much the better. Namur's been feeling some of the creatures' ill will toward the CERES interlopers for quite awhile, and this time he's content to let them be, as much as they'll let him be. He's just curious what's down here, and will be content to slip among them as much as possible. When his foot hits water, he chuckles.]

Sheheheh! Who wants t' go for a dive, huh?

[Phase Ic]

[Namur smells blood. Human blood, non-human blood, a lot of individuals all mixed together. It draws him on, beckoning. There's not a nasty beast, because otherwise he'd smell rotting meat, or nothing at all if the thing isn't inclined to waste. No, this has to be something different.

The altar doesn't concern him overmuch at first. Weird religious sickos aren't a foreign concept to him. He's checking it out because the brainy types up top will want to know everything he can tell them about it. Then he finds something and takes it up between his fingertips, sniffing extra carefully. He feels a pit beginning to form in his gut, and something dark reaches out to clutch at his heart. Namur gasps.]

No. No no no nononono.

[He starts searching around more frantically, this time seeming like he's looking for something specific, a lock of long blood-red hair dangling from his hand.]

Damn it, what the hell's going on here?

Phase I

[The explosion gave him enough time to sit up, grab his hoodie and his gunblade and then--and then nothing. He's pulled fast and far and down into the dark he goes alone with a yell.

This is familiar to him in a way. It's a lot like the inside of the tower as he and Korra approached the area with the Bridge's holding cell. So he's care as he chooses to head down. The deeper parts must have answers.

…the platform gives. Maybe you're with him as he's walking but down they go. He can't see anything and he keeps the weapon held close. It's now that he wishes Baymax were with him.

He follows the sound of the water and hisses at how cold it is. That hiss turns into a yelp when something bites down hard. There's the sound of gun shots echoing in the dark and Hiro screaming.

Later you might find him down at the altar, examining it as closely as he can in the dark.]

…this sorta looks weirdly familiar. [Like something he'd seen in the mountains. How about that.]

Phase III

[There's nothing horrific about walking into the building that doesn't appear damaged at all, right? Supplies. People. Anything. He's moving and scouting but it's hard when he's sort of favoring one foot over the other. He thinks he hears something though and he looks up, and it doesn't take long before he darts into the building to escape. The mirrors don't interest him at all and there's a frustrated noise as he goes to leave, sidestepping glass as he goes.

That's before he hears his own voice though. "It's over, Krei."

He knows what this is. He knows and he turns to try and barge his way out of the building, glass crunching under his feet in his haste and crashing right into someone else. And he freezes until he hears the sounds of Baymax blasting off and he looks back, noticing that the memory's now gone.]

[ PHASE II. ]

a.)

[ As is the case when being sharply woken up by-- something, Mary ends up trapped in this place barefoot and in a nightgown that at least falls to below her knees. Thankfully, no one seems to be around for her initial panic, but now she's cautiously working her way upwards, calling out in a desperate whisper for anyone familiar: Roxas, Hiro, Mikleo, Shiho, anyone.

And then that desperate whisper becomes a desperate yelp that begins to sound more like someone's lost their puppy down here, because the pathway decided to just give up. No one's ever loved the pathway, and the pathway wonders, really, what's the point-- either way, hopefully you have good vision, good enough to spot the one arm flung over the still-solid metal and the other hand gripping the edge. Or that aforementioned yelping might lead you straight to the medusa dangling for dear life.

Please don't boot her to her death. ]

b.)

[ OR, you may run into Mary after she's managed to survive (probably thanks to kind generous people and not her own arm strength), but if you're newly arrived to the surface, she's quickly going to beckon to you from the shadow of a twisted building. ]

T-this way! There's--

[ OH LOOK, A METAL MONSTER THING IS ROUNDING THE CORNER. ]

[ PHASE III. ]

[ If you've happened to make it to this mirror not-so-fun house with Mary... well, it's obvious she's arrested by what she's found. And you'll gain somewhat of an explanation, if you look. A little girl, crying in pain and terror as several pairs of hands try to tie her up. A woman, hurrying to the little girl's aid, arms wrapped around her protectively. That same woman, stunned, eyes beginning to glow bright red. A man, stone. The little girl, staring lifelessly at a newly-constructed grave in the rain.

Mary isn't saying anything, but gradually, she raises her hands to press her palms over her eyes with a choked noise like a sob. ]

[ milla's here. milla's here and there's a sword in her hand, about to hack a sizeable mirror shard on the floor before she freezes. the image in the reflection shifts with the familiar voice; she doesn't need to try to get who it is, as he's shown to her.

fire, tadashi. she knew he was dead, but this was how. she'd packed away her "shits to give" in an attempt to not be affected by her own memory shown to her; seeing tadashi like this was one way to get some of them slipping out of the box.

just a small moment of hesitation, and as the memory dies she's smashing her sword on the mirror on the floor. just as she meant to in the beginning.

and at the end of that shattering, without turning around (she knows he's there): ]

Don't stay in here.

[ milla sounds sorry, but also exhausted; the reason she's not snapping at him is because he's tadashi. she's dead too, but what the heck is she supposed to tell him? she wasn't supposed to see that. she doesn't want him to see anything she has to offer, either. ]

phase I.

[in the dark, he relies more on what he can feel rather than what he can see. an increase in presence to feel out the corners, make sure that where he steps isn't so weak that it will cut off any opportunity to go back. and soon enough, after enough careful steps on the walkway, there's the water, which he can hear and just barely see by the light of the lighter he has open in his hand.

water was never a good sign in stories, but at the same time, there's an allure he can't fully pass up. so he has to make a decision. coming to the edge of the bank, he waits for some sort of sign or wave of intuition, little flame flickering some in the damp and dark like a beacon.

at this rate, he's going to end up diving in himself.]

phase III.

[Chrollo walks slowly through the mirrored building, eyes wide and taking in the sight of it all. while this landscape was easy to navigate, just another place to discover the secrets of and hiding in the corners when it's time to rest, a building like this practically radiates something wrong or at the least something odd. he half expects the shards to rise up, form into something that will fight back.

except that in one of them, it's not the same, and it draws his vision over to stare rather than look away, seeing something of a life - his life, practically daring him to do anything about it. alone, he can handle it, because it's no different than the usual walking through of his recollections from the day to day, no matter what they might be. but someone else...

well. Chrollo wants the recordings out of his head now. they shouldn't see this.]

[ Honestly if they hadn’t fallen through the crevice by accident, Rapunzel wouldn’t have stopped in front of the terminal at all. Staring at it now, her expression doesn’t change. She blinks once, twice, and then turns away, wiping fruitlessly at the dark, ambiguous liquid on her cheek. ]
