[ It's already late afternoon when Merlin takes a cloth to dust down books, though really even that is half-hearted as he enchants it to work by itself. No one ever said you can't use magic to be lazy here, though a book or too might accidentally get swiped off the bookcase because of that. ]

We should start closing up now anyway, right? [ He says it to Fay, knowing that it shouldn't be too long before the time he told Charlie to meet them there. It's much quicker to go from here rather than go back to the residential district and come back again. The book shop he works at wouldn't be that too far away anyway.

In fact, it's still 5 minutes to closing time but he's switching the sign anyway. The "CLOSED" label facing the outside world instead. No one is going to come running last minute for a book or anything anyway. ]

If you mind the door I can get everything put away.

[Technically they really should be waiting until they're actually closed to be flipping signs and things but really, it's just a few minutes, and Fay is looking forward to leaving, too. He'll just arrive a little earlier for his next shift, that's all.]

Sounds good to me. [Merlin's casual use of magic to be for chores is becoming familiar, but Fay still spares a smile for the enchanted dust rag as it makes its way along the books.

He makes his way to a shelf by the door, so that he can quickly rearrange the snowglobes that make real snow before they leave.] We'll be out of here in no time at all.

[ Charlie's been meaning to check out the shop where Merlin works, anyway, and getting together to look around was as good an excuse as any.

He notices the "closed" sign in the door as he approaches- someone must be eager to get out of here. He gives the door a try, and sure enough, it's unlocked. He pokes his head in. ]

Hey are you closed? I only need a couple of things, I promise. I'll only be a minute.

[ There's something exaggerated about his tone. Clearly he's been at this retail thing a while. ]

[ They should be, but the owner isn't there and really no one they don't expect will probably turn up. Plus, speak of the devil (or think, even) and he arrives.

He knees behind the counter, grabbing the inventory folder and calls out: ]

I'll just finish up these invoices for stock then we should be do--! [ Only then the third member of this party arrives and he pops up behind the counter, probably looking far too excited and probably cutting it too fine to smacking his head on the thing. ]

Charlie! [ Embarrassing. ] What did you need?

[ Well, they might as well, right? ]

[obfuscates]

[Fay sees Charlie coming, and steps away from the door, bobbing his head when he looks in. He's worked serving customers before, of course. It was just never for long enough to truly understand how awful customers that say that sort of thing are.

So, because it's obvious Charlie isn't being entirely serious, and because why not, Fay is gesturing Charlie into the shop while Merlin is doing his whack-a-mole impression.]

Come in, come in, we're entirely helpful.

Entirely ready to leave for the day, you mean.

[ Still, he steps inside, looking around the place with undisguised fascination. Back home, selling magicked items to the population at large was a surefire way to have someone show up at your door to make you quietly disappear, so the fact that this place even exists is a wonder to him.

He offers Merlin a small smirk. ] I was being facetious. If a customer actually says that to you, it’s pretty much guaranteed that they’re going to wander around for like an hour and not buy anything.

[ You're a whack-a-mole, you noodle!!!

Merlin finally pushes himself up properly and slides the folder away again, no point in starting it now. ]

Well, you were coming? [ Because that's entirely a good reason to close up early... right? ] Though I don't think anyone's done that while I've been working here? [ He's trying to think back...




...but countless of people have probably done it without him realising by now. ]

[obfuscates]

[Fay looks thoughtful at the exchange; he'll have to keep that in mind for the future, though he's reasonably sure he could smile his way through any annoying customer that might come in. He'll remember that tip, though.]

So many new things to learn. [Though really, he's just talking to himself about that.] And who doesn't look forward to a fun night out, especially after a hard day's work when we've escaped the clutches of buy-nothing customers?

[And the shop does look nice and tidy, or at least as tidy as it gets. All that's left to do is close up and have the Best Night Ever.]

[ Charlie shrugs. ] I’m not your boss. I was just teasing about closing up early anyway.

[ As he speaks he wanders over to the shelf of snow globes, grinning as he watches them. ] I’m definitely going to have to come back here when you guys are open, though.

[ He moves to put any valuables away in the safe, makes sure that's all locked up then moves towards the door. He's technically only been here a month longer than Fay, but not that many people (aliens, too) work there anyway. It's not a big deal. ]

First we have to leave. [ He cants his head towards the door. ] I'll lock up. Though really, I don't know why you haven't come here before anyway.

[obfuscates]

[Fay approves of all teasing, especially when it's over ultimately silly things. He also approves of leaving, so he opens the door, standing aside for the others.]

With so many different types of stores here, I'm sure this one would have been on the list to visit eventually. We'll be nice even if you do just look around, honestly.

[animated]

Cut me some slack. I just got here. There’s a lot to take in, but this place is definitely on my list.

[ He slips past Fay and out the door- with a nod of thanks- and puts his hands in his jacket pockets as he waits for Merlin to lock up. ]

So, do we have a plan or are we just winging it?

[sortileges]

[ Thankfully the teasing isn't ending yet. ] So did this guy. [ He nods his head towards Fay, locking the door behind them and tucking away the key, then-- ] I really don't know why you think you can use an excuse like that.

[ He's joking, though. ] Though I was going to just point out a few places you should probably visit at some point, other than that... we can stop where ever you want on the way.

[obfuscates]

[There's so much of the city to see that it's almost overwhelming, and Merlin does have the best grip on what there is to see, and a friendly tour guide never hurt to have.]

You're definitely our fearless leader for the evening. [Is that a good thing?] I at least don't have anywhere in particular I want to stop at, yet.

[animated]

[ He gives Merlin a flat look. ] He works here.

[ Buuuut then he shrugs. ] I’m easygoing. I was just wondering if there was a plan.

[ He just gives Charlie a shrug, clearly trying to not laugh through it because this was a joke, don't worry. He's only teasing. He only knew of this place because of his job, too. ]

Are you both really leaving me in charge of this? [ You're both crazy. ] We can call and get dinner from this stand-- [ Hope you both like terrible street vendor food ] And walk around. In the "Entertainment" district you can play games and thaaaat is where ViViD is. Though I'm not sure either of you are looking to go back there just yet after the dates you just had.

[First of all, street vendor food is delicious, and second of all, those dates were rough okay ):]

Fearless leader means being in charge of things. [Seriously, who better to be saddled with tour guide duty, sorry bro. Fay clasps his hands together, looking thoughtful.] Possible mystery foods and not having a strange ViViD experience sound fun, though. I'm sure there are plenty of other things to do without reliving that, yes?
