[ you spy with your little eye someone who isn't being quite as stealthy as they think they are. a tall, dark figure (maybe handsome?? we just don't know), loitering in alleyways, behind buildings, up on rooftops... it's hecka creepy. if you approach fast enough, zero doesn't run away!

and sometimes, they even initiate conversation., with things like, ] Wanna go kill stuff?

[ absolutely screaming on the inside... there isn't enough "holy shit" in the world for even a relatively benign action to do this justice. see, it's not aggressive or quick enough to warrant violent retaliation. ... not yet, anyway. he refuses to keep his cool.

but marco doesn't like that nose near him, not at all. he shuffles around it, bumping the edge of his shield against it in the process. ]

[ the skin of the turtle-monster is a little too stiff to wrinkle, but it makes a valiant effort. it rears back an inch, and then breathes out hard through its nose onto marco with a whoof. ]

[ did it just... whoof at him... ]

[ marco pauses, chancing a glance at zero.

his expression is particularly telling. ]

What the hell is this?

[ zer0 tips their head slightly. they've been watching, yeah, but they don't know precisely what was going to happen.

but now it's happened! ]

Better than expected.

[ he didn't get eaten, after all. ]

[ gOD... "better than expected" somehow isn't comforting. keeping a wary eye trained on the monstrous reptile, marco's going to try gently pushing back against the barrier.

Next time, just— [ just... tell him?! to be fair, he doesn't think he asked this time around. ] —well, letting me in on the plan isn't a terrible idea!!

[ not that he would've gone through with it. which he thinks zer0 knows, too. ]

It sounds terrible.

[ because zer0 doesn't think marco would follow along if he knew. people can be like that. nervous.

this way, things are easier and simpler. zer0 waits while the turtle monster obligingly opens its mouth to reveal two items on its tongue—a circlet with a massive defensive boost, lying next to a long blade. zer0 reaches for the latter. ]

[ all right, marco can concede that response wasn't... entirely unexpected. after all, he'd like to think that if zero thought it was a great idea to begin with, he would've gone ahead and done that.

marco sighs. he watches zero pick up the blade, leaving the circlet. he eyes it. ]

... What's that do?

[ zer0 shrugs. it looks like a defensive booster, but they don't use items like that. ]
