( open ) triple sunshine saga

What: Stahn activated his robot… and Leon’s (oops). Did Cerealia need this much sunshine (or hair) running around? Probably not, but it’s happening.

0.5: Wildcard: The days before;

[on the 22nd and 23rd, things aren’t so bad. The stahnbots are looking and acting more like him by the day; bright and full of sunshine, but still dutiful. they help him with his shopping, partner up with him for multiplayer arcade games, and order all the right foods for lunch.

he’ll be out running errands and vigilantly teaching his robots everything that they need to know with a smile. There are plenty of times and opportunities to run into him and the bots and either balk or be completely amused at the sheer about of sunshine, smiles and mullets are happening in one place.]

I: Morning: Residential District;

[so far, so good. sure, it was a bit of a mistake to activate the two robots without knowing what would happen, but up until today? it’s been pretty cool! well, to stahn, at least. leon and dymlos both have clearly been exasperated by dealing with three stahns, but that’s fine.]

It’s okay, Stahnbot! I can go to work myself, you don’t have to go for me! [currently, he’s sitting on a bench at the edge of a part near one of the apartment buildings. one stahnbot is unwrapping a sandwich and handing it to the real(?) stahn. the other is eyeing dymlos and maybe reaching out for him. The sword is propped up against the bench next to the real stahn.

—suspicious.]

That’s my job though! I really don’t mind.

[so while stahn has a light argument with himself, he’s very distracted and is hardly noticing that the third is trying to make off with his sword.

help him.]

II-A: Afternoon: Just about anywhere in the city;

[there is a stahn coming your way. the thing is? there’s no telling which stahn it is. is he real? is it one of the robots? who knows. There’s one deciding factor, and that’s whether or not he’s got dymlos. only one stahn will be carrying dymlos. And those capable of hearing dymlos may notice that he’s quiet. well, even more quiet than usual.

either way, he seems to have boundless energy and a wide grin as he approaches.]

Hey! Do you have a minute to help me with something?

II-B: Afternoon: Just about anywhere in the city;

[there’s a stahn coming your way, but unlike the others that are running around, stahn isn’t as full of sunshine. He’s breathless, almost haggard… and noticeably missing that sword he always carries around with him.]

Hey… I need some help. Do you have a minute?

[wow, it’s like deja vu or something.]

III: Early Evening; Shopping District

[those who can hear dymlos will hear the booming sound of his voice yelling ”STAHN!” once he’s within close range to the real stahn. And naturally, stahn uses that as his guide, eventually leading him to a face-off with his two robot-doubles, one of which is carrying the sword.

of course, the robots still can’t hear dymlos, which makes this an interesting way for things to go down. For once, stahn himself isn’t a barrel of sunshine, he actually looks pretty pissed off.]

You guys may have had fun, but that’s enough. You can’t have Dymlos! You can’t even hear Dymlos! To you… he’s just a sword that makes you more like me, isn’t he? [he actually sounds a little hurt by this—he may be dumb sometimes, but he can see that they’re just taking the imitation too far, though he’s not sure how to deal with it.]

Give him back to me… come on! [he needs help, primarily because he doesn’t want to cause a scene when there are innocent people shopping and minding their business. the swordless stahnbot can’t his head to the side, while the other responds:]

Huh? But Dymlos is mine. I don’t think I have to give away something that’s mine… do I?

[the bots are equally as confused. This is what happens when a pure bean makes pure bean robot clones: none of them are malicious, but they don’t seem very willing to give in.

help. he needs so much help right now.]

[it'll probably be hilarious in six months when this is all over, though that probably depends on whether or not this goes from "slightly creepy" to "creepy pod people," who even knows in cerealia.]

I haven't really tried but... I don't even know how to do anything like that. They're pretty good at opening locks and things like that! [though they're getting less competent at that sort of thing the more they pick up on stahn's traits, but they're definitely robots built to do things efficiently.

—and maybe he still feels a little bad, like he'd be hurting them somehow even though they are robots and also weird clones of him.

at the very least, stahn's got a good enough grip on dymlos that he's not going to get swordnapped again.]

[On one hand, Kashuu understands this struggle... It's the only reason he hasn't tried reenacting Final Destination with his clonebot. On the other, now he understands Lili's struggle. He's looking at these two pretty innocent Stahnbots who haven't really done anything but accidentally step on a lot of toes while trying to complete their Stahn Look and all he can see is a future of creepy pod people and axe murders.]

Yeah, locks are pretty out of the question. So are doors if they're not sturdy enough.

[Kashuubot, unlike the Stahnbots, is just getting better at destroying property the more it picks up on from Kashuu... Help.]

Someone was like "let's throw 'em into a volcano!" earlier, but I don't even think we have trash compactors around here that aren't in ViViD.

[if there was really any thought either of the bots had about running away, they're culled pretty quickly by the idea of being thrown in either a volcano or a trash compactor. they're both pretty disturbed by the idea of something like that happening.

(their programming is definitely saying "this absolutely can't happen," but stahn's influence has them both gasping a little at the notion. stahn himself looks to them, and he's... kind of sympathetic? he's mad about what's happening, but at the same time, he's not sure the robots can help it.

robots and programming confuses him though, so he's not sure, a tad wary and honestly not even sure where to go from here. the bots are way more of a handful now that they're acting out on their own.]

Do you think maybe it's a mistake? Maybe they need to be fixed or something... [it's hard, but he does want to give them the benefit of the doubt here; that's just the way he is.]

[This is why Stahn must be protected. He's too good for this world, too pure... At least his robot clones are taking after him, so it's not like there's one Pure Stahn and two Menace Stahns running around trying to ruin his reputation or something.

He eyes the robots for a quiet second...]

I dunno. If they do need to be fixed, then all of them should be returned, since they're all acting like this. But I don't think it was a mistake, nah.

[He thinks CERES purposely gave them shitty robots because they're like lab rats and CERES is rude!!!]

[they're only menaces in that two stahns that don't fully understand how to be stahn makes... well, situations like this. but they still seem to mean so well, despite the trouble they're causing.]

So you really think they gave them to us knowing this would happen? I know they said they were "protoypes," but they didn't say anything about them changing shape or acting like this...

[this really isn't making life more convienient for anyone, after all.]

Yeah, that's basically business-talk for, like, "we don't really know what could happen but hey! We warned you they were prototypes so now you can't sue us or something if you activate it and it tries to kill you!"

[Not that any of them have actually gone that far yet, as far as he's aware, but still! He totally thinks it's feasible.]

But why would they give them to us if they're not sure what it'll do? That's really dangerous!

[he was pretty convinced that this was supposed to be a gesture of goodwill, so the notion that they really would send incomplete tech just seems... reckless? wrong? it bothers stahn, whatever it is.]

[Stahn is truly too pure for a city like this... Kashuu's brow furrows a little and he looks awkwardly stuck between disbelief and concern for a second.]

Eh - well, I mean. It's not like our safety has ever been a priority for 'em... If they can test stuff out on us and figure out what's dangerous before releasing it to people who aren't code or whatever, they'd probably do it.

[Or they might just be doing it for the sake of ruining their week, who knows!! Kashuu wouldn't put either past them.]

[in all fairness, stahn still doesn't really get the "being code" thing, either. it goes over his head simply because it's not the kind of technology he's ever seen before. not like this, at least.]

But it's not just dangerous for us. If they're out here like this, with weapons... someone innocent really could get hurt. [even if they're some kind of exception and ceres is more interested in caring for the natives—if they get hurt because of this, it's still at the fault of ceres.]

[Even if Kashuu sounds like he kind of knows stuff about it, he's in the same boat, basically. He can't even use microwaves, code people are beyond him...]

Yeah, I don't think they care about that too much, or they'd have mentioned something about this in their spiel earlier. I mean, if every single robot is starting to replicate its owner, that can't have been something they wouldn't have predicted, right?

So you think... they really had to know something like this would happen, then?

[it seems to crazy to him though. how could they leave something like that out if they knew this would happen to all of them? a mistake like that... could a mistake like that really slip past them?

this is getting too complicated for him.]

I'm saying that I think it's a definite possibility. Like, a preeetty strong one. I don't know for sure, but that's kinda the way things are lining up, right?

[A sloping, somewhat gentle shrug follows, because he's feeling like he's breaking bad news somehow.]

[probably because this is terrible news for stahn. he's trying to give mosley and ceres the benefit of the doubt here!]

It sounds like it, when you put it that way. But... why? Couldn't they have told us then right up front?

[of course, this is the part where dymlos heaves a sigh and decides it best to intervene.

"There are many reasons they could have made that choice, Stahn. It would behoove you to consider the possibilities beyond what Mosley told you. You should know by now that CERES' actions shouldn't betaken at face value."]

[HE FEELS LIKE HE'S TELLING SOMEONE SANTA ISN'T REAL.]

I mean, yeah... Dymlos has a good point. You can only give one person or group or whatever the benefit of the doubt so many times, y'know? And then it's just like, you gotta realize they're pretty untrustworthy or they probably don't have everyone's best intentions at heart.

[it's really not that different.]

But... they've done good things. So can they really be all bad? [it's a conflict of interest here. some actions are totally contradictory to other ones, as far as he can see it.]

I don't think they're all good, they do et a lot of things wrong but... I don't think think they're all bad, either. I can't ignore that. [it's just one of those things stahn is incredibly stubborn about to the bitter end.]

But... I can't ignore things like this, either. There has to be a reason for it, both the good and the bad.

[There's a lot he could say to that, but he starts off with one thing, first:]

You know stuff sometimes happens and there is no good reason for it, right?

[It's a more generic-sounding question because he's speaking in more general terms. That kind of optimism isn't really a bad thing, but it's definitely naive and the sort of mentality that Kashuu's seen end in death before. He likes Stahn. He likes Stahn a lot and doesn't think the world should lose someone like him, which is why he's more worried than he might normally be now.]

I know.

[there are a lot of things stahn may be somewhat naive about—but he's not that much of a fool. even with the sheer amount of optimism he tries to hold onto, he isn't blind to the truth. he's seen a lot of senseless things happen.

he's seen death and destruction, he's lost people close to him and none of it had a good reason. they were terrible reasons, they were senseless and needless and they served no benefit to anyone at all.]

Even if they aren't good reasons, there still have to be reasons. [a bad reason is still a reason, after all.] Things like this... they don't just happen without one.

Mm. [True enough that there are some bad things in the world that do happen for no reason, but he's inclined to agree with Stahn here. Whatever the motives or purposes are, he's certain it has to be something more than "just because".]

—Well, anyway. The best thing to do is to treat this like a potential threat, I think. Even if it turns out to be a total bust, the extra caution couldn't hurt, y'know?

Right. [at the very least, stahn isn't disagreeing outright. he may not like the idea of how this is all panning out, but he can't be ignorant to the facts.]

Things are getting too tricky now... [even if the stahnbots intentions don't end up being deadly (hah), there's still the fact that they've been slowly turning out to be more like him, and the fact they'd go as far as to take dymlos can't be ignored.] I'll definitely be careful.

If you need help or anything, let me know, okay? Even if these things just build themselves back up, they can still be disabled temporarily.

[ie "If you gotta murder a bot just call me and I'll be there to stab it until it stops moving for a while". Stahn's sure got some solid friends...]

okay, that's probably not the most important thing to ask. not right now, at least.]

Yeah... I will. Thanks, Kashuu. [he won't. he doesn't really fully realize it yet, but he's not going to lay the burden on his friends. this is something he has to take care of himself—or it will be, when the time eventually comes.

but while the bots are largely placated thanks to the fact that kashuu is terrifying, (not that they're thrilled with stahn agreeing with him, either), he should probably check up on kashuu too. he can't leave things one-sided like that.]

Is everything going okay for you? I mean... with all of this going on and everything.

[QUESTIONS FOR ANOTHER TIME... Or never. Never works, too.]

Mm, no problem. [A nod! He's always willing to help friends out! Stab a few guys to lend a hand, that's just the way it goes sometimes. He's definitely sideeying both of the bots a little, too...

But then moving right along--]

Yeah, yeah. I mean, mine is just as irritating as anyone else's buuut what can you do, y'know?

Mm... I haven't really had a lot of time to see what's happening with other people's.

[given that his are such a handful in every respect. of course, how frazzled it's been making him is probably plainly obvious—having one double would have been enough. two? two is exhausting, especially when they lack a certain sense of boundaries than stahn himself has.]

I'm sure you'll take care of it, but I just wanted to check... just in case there were any problems.

[Nodding in response! His own bot isn't as much of a handful as Stahnbots 1 and 2 seem to be right now, honestly... It puts things into perspective a little. Like things could be much worse.]

Thanks for checking, but I've totally got it covered, so no worries! But speaking of that weirdo, I should probably go look for it. You gonna be alright here with these two clowns?

[Gesturing toward said bots rudely...]

Ah—Yeah, I'll be fine. I've got Dymlos now, so it's okay.

[he can figure out the rest on his own somehow, probably. stahn isn't exactly sure how or what'll come next, but he's not going to hold kashuu up while he tries to figure all of that out, especially if he has his own bot to deal with.]

Don't worry about me... Go take care of yours. [there's not much of a smile to offer in this situation, but he'll get an expression that falls somewhere between sympathetic and grateful.]

If you need any help, let me know, okay? [he would absolutely still make time for kashuu even with his own bots running amok.]
