[ OPEN ] snake charmer

Who: [personal profile] braidedwonder & Open
When: 7/7 - After exiting ViViD
Where: Apartment Complex, street of Cerealia & market areas
What: Duo bullies Heero in to moving in, and then has to make the apartment actually useable..
Rating/Warning: None? But it's Duo so it could always happen.

[ CLOSED ] FOR HEERO
"Listen, Heero, go pack up Wing and start sleepin' here. It makes no sense for me to have a bedroom I'm not even using anyways.." That's how all of this had started, anyways. At least before they'd gone to collect Heero's small collection of things, and had to carry them from one place to another. Thankfully Heero wasn't as much of a pack rack as he was, and the moving hadn't taken too long but.. the whole getting used to another body in his space might take a little while, again. Thankfully he was used to having Heero around, and he was a quiet roommate, so there wasn't much to bother with when it came to getting annoyed or anything stupid like that. Mostly, he's going to have to get used to having Wing and Deathscythe in one place and one apartment, which meant a little bit of chaos when they had first started settling in. Gundams messing around with each other started out cute -

Until thermal weapons started being used. And then it was a huge risk to life and limb.

Thankfully they'd been easily separated, and their weapons hidden away, and the apartment had settled in to a quiet place once again. At leat until Duo decided that it was dinner time, and -
"Heero? Any preference for dinner?"

[ OPEN ] IN THE STREETS

There's Duo, his backpack slung on his back as usual, filled with some of the things that Heero would let him carry, a box in his arms. They're moving like teenage boys on a mission, at least, but after the whole beach episode everyone seems to be out and about so.. it calls for a few stops and "excuse mes" from time to time. Or just, you know, the occasional bump in to someone if he was too busy trying to navigate around one person for avoiding another -

- So forgive him if he gives you a little jostle, ok?

[ OPEN ] GROCERY SHOPPING

Legitimately fresh fruits and vegetables are still such a novelty to a kid that's used to freeze dried or transported foods that were just.. not quite up to snuff for most people who had never lived on a space colony before. So, after he'd done helping his war buddy unpack and leaves him to get things organized as he wants them - he's back at the grocery stores and markets that he can find along the way, picking up and examining things and probably taking more than a few taste tests until -

Oops - bumping in to someone with a little grunt of surprise, dropping the pomegranate in his hands. "Shit - my bad! You didn't drop anything, did you?"

"I don't have any desire to do so." Or at least, not much of one. Lately, he's been finding himself being a little more social with some people, but it's usually because he gets himself into a predicament he doesn't know how to get out of. He pauses in writing to go for more of the fruit, before reaching out to turn the page and continue. "And for the record, no, I'm not."

He's learning things, slowly. Very slowly. Cooking, he's not good at, but he's trying even if he refuses to admit it in front of Duo. Laundry... he hasn't flooded another laundromat yet, so there is that. Even socializing is something he's getting better with, though that's progressing with excruciating slowness. "As for kicking them in the teeth, I don't know that it would help." He doesn't look up, but there's a small sound that could almost be termed a snicker, followed by an almost amused, "He took a giant corndog up his nose without flinching, then tried to attack me afterward. If that didn't faze him, I doubt a kick would."

"Crushing someone's face in when I only intended to knock out teeth would be counterproductive." Besides, sometimes Kaneda is interesting... like the time the guy challenged him to a race. In laundry carts, with brooms to propel them forward. It was weird, but kind of fun, he supposes.

But right now, he's got history homework, so a lot of what Duo says only gets a shrug in return. Except for that last part. That makes him stop writing and lift his head to look at Duo in mild confusion. "Do I look like a doormat to you?"

Answer very carefully, boy.

That earns a sigh and a wrinkled nose in return. "I have no desire to pay someone else's hospital bills or funeral expenses." Well, that and he's really bad at the follow through when it comes to things like death, unless the other happens to be in a mobile suit or it's an accident.

There's a moment's pause after the sarcasm before Heero moves, shifting his weight to one side in order to lift a hand... to rub at his forehead as if trying to feel where the word is written. "There are some things that shouldn't be let go of." Like guilt. Or regret. Or-- okay, maybe both of those things could be released, but he'd feel awkward doing it. It'd be like he was intentionally forgetting those whose lives he'd taken, and he's not sure he wants to do that.

"If you're still sore over my borrowing a few parts to repair my mobile suit, you're the one who needs to let go." Then again, for Heero, it's been a year since the war ended. He'd never thought to ask Duo what the last thing he remembered was, much like it took forever for him to care enough to ask the others. Duo was Duo, Trowa was Trowa, and Quatre was Quatre. Points in time weren't all that important, really.

Or they weren't unless it was the time Quatre went crazy in ZERO, or the time Trowa had amnesia...

That gets his attention, the homework lying on the floor momentarily forgotten. This is something important, as far as he's concerned. "Blown up the suits?" Well, that answers that.

Duo is very much after what he remembers... which is sitting at the bottom of the ocean with ZERO after the fight with Wufei.

"So I assume that was stopped?"

He falls quiet for a moment, lowering his gaze back to his notes. This is weird, but at least it ended? "The last thing I remember is dropping ZERO into the ocean." He'd asked Wufei how many more times he'd have to kill that little girl and her puppy. He'd angled his gundam toward the water and let it drop straight in to settle on its back. He's not even sure how long he was there before he ended up here, only that it happened.

Then again, he hadn't exactly been with the others, so he wouldn't be too surprised if Duo didn't know about that.

"It's quiet there." His voice it totally calm and matter-of-fact as he says it, as if it's a completely serious answer he just gave. "And I didn't think you did."

Maybe he should elaborate a little more. After all, the others had picked up their suits together, whereas he'd had Quatre send his to different coordinates and met it in space.

"I ran into Wufei and we fought straight through reentry into the atmosphere. ZERO got damaged at some point in there, but I don't really remember when because there was a lot going on. After that... I asked him a question that I knew he wouldn't be able to answer for me, and retracted ZERO's wings to have it drop into the ocean." A small shrug. "I don't know if he and I are just too different or too similar, but sometimes it feels like oil and water dealing with him."

"Similar? I fail to see how. Unlike him, I don't need to go chasing someone's ghost in order to validate my own existence." He doesn't exactly get it, but he's never really spent much time with the other, so it's a little hard to say for certain, and Treize isn't the same as an innocent child, so that can't be a similarity. At least, he doesn't view it that way.

But maybe the conversation should be steered elsewhere. Bring things back around to the here and now, because this is where they are, and this is what they have to deal with. And to prove Duo wrong about his inability to make friends -or at least tolerate people enough to be quasi-passable- he chooses one topic and runs with it. "I flooded the laundromat down the street not too long ago. There was a girl who helped me clean up the mess the first time, and then the guy who needs a kick in the teeth got me out of doing the rest of it." Just a plain, casual tone, as if he were talking about the weather.

"I'm not." Back to the notebook, turning the page to start on the next page of work. "You said I have an inability to 'make friends' as you put it. I was merely stating that there were other people who were willing to provide assistance when it was needed." Okay, so the 'friend' thing is kind of foreign to him, but he's trying. He's just not good at social interactions so he's more awkward than anything else.

But he can't help waving one hand in a dismissive gesture as Duo talks about the similarities. "Unlike him, I am perfectly capable of figuring that out without siding with an enemy because I'm incapable of letting go of the past."

The statement about not being the same thing earns Duo a look. He knows they aren't, and that at best those people are more of an acquaintance than anything else, but at the same time, because none of this comes easily to him, he's willing to take whatever he can get. "I didn't call them 'friends'. There are few individuals here to whom that designation would apply in the slightest. Very few."

When Duo's words fade off, Heero is silent for a few moments before reaching out to shut the book he was using. "And what shit might that be?" He'll assume a little girl and her puppy, but he's never really broadcast that so the chances of the other knowing it aren't terribly high. It's one of the very few things he knows he's still allowing to bother him.

"As am I." If it were him, Heero probably wouldn't be able to say he'd want to call himself his friend, so Duo has nothing to worry about there. He's awkward, he's socially stupid, he prefers to be on his own, and doesn't really play well with others. It's not that he doesn't try, but more that he really doesn't know how.

The books closed, he pushes them aside and stretches out on the floor, taking a moment to enjoy the space before retreating and sitting up. "There is nothing in my past that warrants mentally rehashing things I can't change." Not that he doesn't do it anyway... "And even if we did, I wouldn't have anything to say."

"If it makes you feel better, I can't." Not that it wouldn't be a useful thing, given how bad the nightmares tended to be, but the amount of training it would probably take to get there wouldn't be worth it. "That would require being aware of one's thoughts while asleep, and I don't know that it's even possible. It's one thing to regain consciousness without someone noticing, but even that requires being conscious of bodily function on some level."

He's probably not going to get too much more done in terms of homework, so for now, he'll start packing up the books. Anything else he has to do can be done at another point in time -like right before class, or during, or he'll skip and not do it at all. "...I don't know why I decided to accept their idea of going to school. It isn't as though I'm actually learning anything. The lessons are boring, and I skip more classes than I attend."
