[ free ice cream. free!!! athena definitely can't refuse something free, especially when she used up majority of her credits to buy pizza and drinks for the meeting she hosted at the sanctuary the other day. besides, she wants phoenix and merlin to get along, so this """""double date""""" shouldn't be so bad.

even if. you know, she wants to maintain a professional relationship with her boss and not go on dates with him around... it's too late now... may phoenix not be the embarrassing doofus that he is today.

merlin and athena arrive earlier than the planned time, though, so they're just chilling while waiting for phoenix and iris to arrive. ]

Is it bad that I'm nervous? I hope not. . .

[ Despite the one who is more likely to be grilled here he's just chilling with a lemonade for now. They are early, but hopefully it helps her relax into the environment before everything goes down. Iris, at least, is sweet and won't cause any problems. ]

Either way she was the one who asked for this, nevermind agreed to this or has she forgotten already? Originally it was only going to be her getting ice cream for free, she asked for him to be included. ]

What isn't fine is her yelling. His hand reaches up to cover her mouth when a few people turn around, and instead of saying anything, he glances to the side to make his point. ]

[ oh... oh. ok she gets it. she nods and starts fidgeting, really anxious about this. you can... stop covering her mouth now, merlin. ]

Is someone yelling in here? [Phoenix quirks an eyebrow as he stands framed in the doorway with a light smile. Of course, it's not hard to tell who's responsible for this shouting...

But he quickly shuffles to the side as he holds the door open for Iris.]

[Smiling at him for the kind gesture, Iris stepped inside. Eyes lingering on him for an extra moment before she turned towards the two teens they were there to meet.]

Ah! Athena. Merlin. It's wonderful to see you both again.

How are you?

[ Of course someone is yelling, Athena is in there. His hand flies away from covering Athena's mouth when he hears the door open though. At least it wasn't him yelling this time though, but to be fair on her, it was probably more embarrassing in a cinema when people are trying to watch trailers. ]

...Hi. [ Yes, that's all he's saying because he might have been fine before, but he isn't now. ]

Boss! [ athena immediately gets up from her seat, even saluting phoenix. she's never saluted him before, though... why is she doing it now (unsure)

then she nods at iris, smiling gleefully. ]

Hey! I'm doing great. I can't wait for Mr. Wright to treat us to some delicious treats, too!

[Phoenix chuckles warmly and follows Iris as he looks towards the other pair. He looks mildly weirded out by the sudden salute from Athena and just stares at her for a moment.]

Um... at ease! [Then he gives a sheepish wave.] Hey guys! Guess... everyone's ready for some ice cream, hm?

[She chalked up the salute to Athena being Athena. Along with the reason that Merlin had been momentarily covering her mouth, strange as that had been.]

Yes. I was surprised when I heard about the suggestion, but also very happy.

I think this will be fun.

[ And there... she goes. Is he supposed to stand as well??? He's a lot more awkward and slower about it when he does.

The way to tell that he's bothered though? He isn't rambling on a million words a minute to greet them both either.

Instead he just stays quiet and presses his lips together.

Sorry Athena, but he has to disagree. Being a third wheel for people was much less awkward than this. ]

[ and her hand goes down, and she heads back to her seat. how embarrassing. note to self: never give phoenix a salute ever again. ]

Don't mind if I do! [He pulls out a chair for Iris and then goes to sit after she's seated. He proceeds to gently elbow Merlin in the side.]

[Having arrived with him, and thus, already made her current status known...Iris wordlessly accepted the chair he held out for her and settled herself down before looking to Merlin and Athena. Awaiting their answer(s).]
