What: sapphire has asked steven about the fancy accessory that his metagross is wearing and wants to know how it's used in battle, and steven is happy to oblige in the most entertaining way possible (while also gently kicking her butt). characters are welcomed to spectate and interact with both trainers and their pokemon when the battle is over!

[ if you've decided to enter this particular ViViD session, you'll be greeted to a simulation of a large, elaborate stadium. there are plenty of cheering spectators filling the seats - some NPCs, and some that you might recognize as your fellow colonists. the one thing that's uniting you all right now is the reason that you're here, and that's to watch some intense competition.
as you look down from your seat, you'll see a battlefield in the middle of the stadium illuminated by bright lights. a closer look will reveal that there are two people standing on either side of the field. on one side, there is a young girl with a ruby red bandanna that looks excited and raring to begin. on the other, there is a silver-haired man in a sharp-looking suit with a calm exterior, but with a look in his eyes that's no doubt anticipating the competition to come.
raised above each side of the arena are large screens that are ready to play the action live for people who can't see things too close. but no matter how you're watching, it's hard to not get swept up in the excitement of what's about to transpire. ]

he watches sapphire make her entrance as well, his smile soft when she takes her respective place. ]
I've battled many Trainers that have traversed Hoenn's wide lands and expansive seas. Each one brought with them the lessons that they learned along the way, and battled with their own unique passions. I expect no less from you, Sapphire.

Her determination shows in her expression. ]
Don't you worry! I'm gonna show ya the best battle ya ever had! [ What can she say, she's confident in her Pokemon. ]

[ and he's glad to see confidence like that! he'd rather her be proud of her abilities than meek, and he knows that he'll have quite the experience in store for him. seeing as she has eight badges already, his expectations are already quite high. ]
Then let's begin! Metagross!
[ he throws his poké ball high into the air, and from it emerges his partner. it lands on the ground with a heavy slam, the stone in the band wrapped around one of its front legs glimmering in the light.
she'll have the courtesy of the first move, but they're ready for action. ]

And she's quick to let her own Pokemon out, too — her Blaziken. ] Chic!
[ Using her fire-type Chic seems like a good choice here — it's not only strong, but quick. She's not going to let him win easily, if she can help it. ]
Let's get this goin'! Flamethrower!
[ A generally safe move to start out with, to keep her distance seeing as she can't quite tell what the accessory does yet. But her Blaziken will immediately go for that Flamethrower. ]

Psychic!
[ metagross' eyes begin to glow bright blue, and the stream of fire that is headed straight towards it suddenly diverts upwards at a sharp angle. when it reaches a certain height, it explodes into a fiery blaze that leaves metagross without a scratch. the best defense is a good offense, and he intends to keep that pressure up. ]
Don't give it room to recover! Rock Slide!
[ as the embers and smoke from the flamethrower settle in the air above, metagross' cross will begin to glow white. in response, multiple white rings of energy appear in the air; from them, multiple large boulders begin to rain down on blaziken. ]

It jumps from one rock to the other, quickly dodging between them and only really being hit by a small few pieces. There's barely any damage there at all. ]
Great! Now use Double Kick!
[ Contrary to what one would think, that Double Kick is not meant for Metagross. Instead, it's reserved for the last big rock in that Rock Slide, as Blaziken jumps off the second-to-last one, before rapidly kicking at the final one to send it flying straight for Metagross. ]

when the dust settles, his eyes are on sapphire. metagross is watching as well, looking unphased and uninjured. ]
An impressive counter! I see that you've really trained Blaziken to play to its advantages.

[ the prelude to the battle is over. now that he's seen what sapphire is capable of, there's no need for him to hold back what he's here to show her. his hand moves to the sparkling stone pin on his lapel, which he takes out with fluidity. ]
The glitter of the stone shall be our bond!
[ the stone is briefly pressed to his lips - once it's been touched, it begins to glow brightly. when he outstretches his arm towards metagross, the stone on its leg begins to react in turn. the bright glow surrounds the pokemon, becoming almost blinding as metagross begins to change shape with the energy being expelled between steven's key stone and the metagrossite.]
Metagross! Mega evolve!
[ after a few moments the light recedes with a drastic pulse, sending a gust of wind across the battlefield and into the crowd. metagross looks very, very different - no longer is it firmly rooted to the ground. instead, it's levitating freely, looking even more intimidating than its original form. ]

Except when she sees him kiss his pin like that, she becomes highly confused. That's ... rather flashy for a Champion. And for a battle. It's giving her flashbacks to Ruby, and she can't tell if she's okay with that or not.
But when his Metagross starts to mega evolve, her expression shifts completely — to awe. She can't do anything but watch as it happens. It's amazing. She's not sure what "mega evolve" means, really, but the word evolve is in there, so it's clear to her that it's evolving and gaining strength somehow. And its new appearance adds to that. ]
That accessory ... It can make a Pokemon evolve?! Whenever ya want it to?! Are ya serious?!
[ She obviously picked up on its evolution's connection to the accessory, at least. She's been in battle before with Pokemon that evolved, but that was natural, and not at all caused by an item. But if he can do something like this ... This can change an entire battle. Though she wasn't even aware Metagross had an evolution, so this is ... strange. ]

his smile is soft, but knowing. this isn't the first time he's shown mega evolution to someone for the first time, and that reaction is pretty normal. he'll explain, but only briefly. ]
That's correct. The power of Mega Evolution is the result of my bond with Metagross taking physical form.

[ there isn't much hesitation after that. he'll explain the full scope of what just happened to sapphire later - for now, they have a battle to finish. like he had suggested, it was far easier to show her what mega evolution was capable of through action. ]
Flash Cannon!
[ the shining, silver beam that charges between mega metagross' four arms pulses with building energy. it looks to be far more powerful than an average flash cannon, and that proves itself to be true when it's released a short few seconds after. it pulses forth towards blaziken with speed and overwhelming power - it won't be easy to avoid something like that. ]

She notices quickly that that Flash Cannon isn't ordinary. ]
Chic! Ya gotta dodge it!
[ But it's being released before Blaziken can really ready itself to do so, and thanks to its increased speed, it hits far sooner than expected. Her Blaziken manages to avoid a full-on hit, but it still hits nonetheless, taking some of Blaziken's HP (and special defense) with it.
But she doesn't have time to let this thing attack again, so her command is fast. ]
Blaze Kick!
[ A fire-type move is best here, considering its typing, and maybe her Blaziken is still faster than it. So it recovers from the attack and leaps over Metagross to get around to its back side so that it can hopefully land its Blaze Kick. Thanks to the Pokedex, she knows it's bad to get under a Metagross, so traveling above it is the better idea (and being behind it), even if it now seems to be more versatile in how it moves. ]

that's not to say that he'll let up, though. one blaziken has landed, metagross will face it once again. ]
Surround it with Double Team, then Meteor Mash.
[ Metagross will focus once again, this time to create illusionary copies of itself to create a ring around blaziken. it's meant to make it panic for a few moments, and that's all that steven needs.
once the position is confirmed, each copy of metagross obeys the command - their four large, front-facing legs tuck together then they begin to spin their bodies, almost like a drill. a powerful aura surrounds each copy, but they'll all fade away as they get closer, revealing the true metagross' location. by then it's too late - the meteor mash has already slammedd blaziken into the air.
it's a powerful impact; when the fire-type lands, that might mark the end of the match. ]

Her Blaziken is knocked hard by that attack, losing nearly all of its HP, as it flies through the air and comes crashing down on the ground a little ways away. It takes a few moments, but soon enough, its Blaze ability activates. The flames on its wrists flare up — twice as big as they are normally — and it seems as though it's got a sudden burst of power as it makes its way back onto its feet.
Sapphire looks proud, still determined. ]
Show 'em what ya got, Chic!
[ And with that, it moves quickly into a Double Team to surround Metagross, before firing a Flamethrower in Metagross' direction — one that's much more powerful than the one it used earlier in the battle, and it seems as though it's coming from a dozen Blaziken at once.
Her Blaziken can play at this game, too. And it knows it has little chance of doing damage if it doesn't overwhelm it. It's a last-ditch effort to give it everything it's got. ]

the blazing inferno of the fire hits metagross head-on, but it doesn't seem to phase it too much, despite the super-effective hit. still, steven won't let it linger for longer than a second or two. ]
Deflect the flames with Protect!
[ an intense energy surrounds metagross like a shield, pushing the fire away until it's nothing but embers that disintegrate the double team copies that blaziken has created. once the real one has been singled out, metagross will rise into the air. ]
This is the end! Hyper Beam!
[ from the point of convergence of mega metagross' four arms, a strong, dark purple beam of energy begins to form. after only a moment's time to charge, it fires - hyper beam is normally a frighteningly powerful move, but this one seems to be amplified to an even greater level. it's a direct hit on blaziken, causing an explosion in its wake.
when the smoke and dust clears, blazkien is on the ground in a small crater, knocked out. ]

it's an odd feeling to battle with sapphire, especially with the numerous striking similarities between her and may. he caught himself almost calling her by the wrong name a few times... it makes him a little bit nostalgic, but not enough for him to mope around about it. he needs to respect sapphire for the trainer that she is, and not compare her to someone else. that wouldn't be fair.
after the battle, he and metagross can be found resting outside of the stadium. the virtual pavilion has dimmed to a nighttime setting, with streetlights paving the area and creating a calm ambiance to relax after such an exciting match. it's silent between the two of them as they walk around and watch the night sky, but as he notices you, he'll turn and offer a smile in greeting. ]
