Candroid wrangling [Open]

Eiji discovered something the past couple of weeks--the Tako candroids really didn't like the CYbuddies.

He couldn't figure out why, since after all, they were both small animal robots, but the problem had gotten worse after CERES kindly delivered broken fox CYbuddies to his and Ankh's apartment. Now, they were a threat.

Put simply, the candroids were jealous. And it was war.

So on an otherwise peaceful day, you might see three robot octopi chasing after various CYbuddies in the park or on the sky bridges while Eiji chased after them, with a little robot hawk trying to cut them off before they annoyed another neighbor.

"Takos, stop! Leave them alone!"

"Wow, that's really lucky. He must be really nice to do all that for you."

"He is." She reiterated. "We would have been okay by ourselves. We're used to it. But...it's still nice to have someone like that looking out for you."

[powertotearer]

He nodded, still smiling.

"How long were you on your own for?"

It wasn't that he was naive enough to think kids could be left to themselves for a while--rather, he knew better than to think that kids could always be expected to have someone take care of them. He'd met enough that he had a healthy respect for them, even if he just wanted to protect all of them.

She shook her head.

"I was never alone." Gently correcting him. "Takeru-kun found me in my first ViViD game. And I have Tailmon, too."

[powertotearer]

"Good, I'm glad." And looking at Tailmon, he asked, "Keep taking good care of her."

This time, when Hikari smiled, it was directed right at Tailmon.

"We'll take care of each other."

...to which Tailmon gave a reaffirming nod, closing her eyes to hide the fact that she was blushing slightly. "Hikari and I are partners. I will be there and protect her for as long as I am capable."

[powertotearer]

Eiji smiled. "Good. If you ever need anything, though, just let me know, okay?"

She nodded.

"That's very kind of you to offer."

[powertotearer]

"It's okay."

Then a thought--what if he's not the one to answer the door? "Just, if you ever end up running into my friend, Ankh, don't worry about him. He might seem mean or like he doesn't care, but he's mostly just doing it to be a pain."

[givesalittlewhistle]

The name brought about a glimmer of familiarity to her eyes that he might not have been expecting. Surprise, at first, followed by recognition. Then, she even smiled.

"Oh! I know Ankh-san. He's the one with the pretty wings."

[powertotearer]

"You met him already? And he showed you his wings?"

Did he have to apologize for Ankh?

Surprisingly? No.

"I did. We met a couple times. Though...when his wings appeared the first time, he seemed really upset about something." Her eyes drifted upward, as if in contemplative thought over the incident. Which had been fleeting. Her concern over his visible physical state. Him...fleeting the area the moment he could. Her surprise. "When I saw him later, at the zoo, I told him that they reminded me of...a friend of mine."

"Oh, well, yeah. He can kind of be..." Frustratingly closed-lipped about his past, as well as anything else that bothered him. But then, Eiji didn't have any room to talk, having the same tendencies.

"All I really know is that a lot happened to him in the past--he's older than he looks, a lot older. And he doesn't like to talk about what happened to him, and I think it's...well, he doesn't want to forget it, but he definitely doesn't want to think about it."

"Because it hurts him." She actually agreed, without asking any more about it. "I could tell."

...speaking of those who often said very little.

[powertotearer]

Eiji nodded sadly.

"He probably doesn't want me to tell anyone this, but he was betrayed, a long time ago, by probably the first person he ever trusted. So he doesn't trust easily."

Hikari hadn't intended to ask, so when the topic was voluntarily offered to her...

Her eyes widened at first, before melting into an expression of sadness. Pity. Her eyes lowered, hangs awkwardly hanging in front of her. She nodded in understanding.

"How awful." Though Hikari, herself, had never been personally betrayed in such a manner, she could guess what that must have felt like. If someone like Taichi or Takeru or Tailmon were to betray her. "No wonder his heart is sad."

Eiji nodded. "And that's why he doesn't like people to see. I think he thinks it's safer, this way."

[givesalittlewhistle]

"I didn't meant to upset him. I was just...surprised. His wings reminded me of Angemon and Angewomon's."

[powertotearer]

Eiji looked at her in confusion.

"Your friends?"

[givesalittlewhistle]

She nodded.

"Angewomon is what Tailmon transforms into when she evolves. We're partners."

[powertotearer]

"Oh, so it's like a transformation. That's really cool!"

[givesalittlewhistle]

"It is!" Far be it from her to brag or preen, but she couldn't help that swell of pride when she thought of her amazing partner's Perfect form. "That's why I was curious when Ankh-san's wings appeared. I thought he was transforming just like they do."

[powertotearer]

"It's not quite...well, I guess it's kind of a transformation."

He frowned for a moment, trying to think of the best way to explain Ankh, without having to delve into 800 years of history.

"Well, he's not human, or he wasn't, before. He was a kind of creature called a Greeed--I guess kind of like how Tailmon is different too. His original form had wings, but just before we came here, something happened, and now he's human. Except with wings, if that makes sense."

A...Greed?

"Is that anything like a digimon?"

[powertotearer]

"I...don't know."

He scratched his head a little. He was still a little shaky on just what a digimon was, but he was pretty sure Tailmon and her friends weren't made up of Medals and quasi-mystical science.

"I guess it doesn't really matter now, since he's basically human."
