[They’d talked about this for months. Or maybe it just felt like months, it was hard to tell. For Hiro, time was one of those strange things that he didn’t quite have a firm grasp on in Cerealia. All that matters is that for more than just a couple of weeks, the four of them had talked about taking off from the colony for a while and going to the beach. With their little quartet being air-aligned, they didn’t have to worry about not surviving outside of the colony walls. It was just a matter of actually getting there.
It was decided that Roxas would haul the supplies they couldn’t carry on Baymax, though the whole method of doing so was a little lost on Hiro and Ruby. Mary and Roxas had no one to check in with but themselves, and the other two flagged their older siblings with a brief explanation that they were taking a short trip, they’d be careful, and they’d be back in a week’s time. Was it unfortunate that it was so far away? Sure it was. But traveling was half the fun.
…of course, flying allowed them to skip over a lot of the monsters in the jungle, but not all of them. Keeping each other safe on Baymax’s back became priority as they zipped along, only stopping for a few hours when it became too dark to see where they were going. Hiro had made sure that Baymax’s battery was fully charged and that his portal battery pack was also fully charged. It should be enough to get them there and back. Ruby had Crescent Rose at her side as well and Mary, surprisingly, seemed okay flying on the robot’s back.
It’s a long three days to get to their destination. Mary spots the ocean first, perking up and pointing it out to the other two who peer around Baymax to get a look at the sandy landscape and the water. The four of them had decided they had just enough time to camp out on the beach for one night (with at least two of them on monster patrol if necessary) before they would turn around and head home. It was still early in the day when Baymax touched down on the sand and Hiro quickly jumped down, helping Mary first and letting Ruby free herself from the handholds she found in his armor. Roxas was already waiting for them with the rest of their supplies, having found the perfect spot for them.
They’d finally done it. So what happens now?]

Ruby hops down from Baymax's back, but she's pretty stiff after the trip. She manages two stumbling steps before she faceplants into the sand.
WELCOME TO THE BEACH, FRIENDS.]
no subject
[ Mary was about to be properly awed to finally stand before the ocean (and not faceplant, like other people-- thanks to Hiro), but she'll quickly try to lend her a hand first. ]
Are you okay? Do your legs hurt??
no subject
annnnd ruby's already faceplanting. okay. at least mary's got that part covered, so roxas will just:]
I'm glad you guys got here in one piece... [he was concerned. it wasn't really like he could pop in to check on them when he had no read on their location.] Well, mostly, I guess.
no subject
We're totally fine. I didn't think the trip would take us this long but the beach is way further than I thought. [He's eyeing the set-up Roxas has going.] We should probably dig a hole to get the umbrella to stay. And maybe find some rocks or something for the corners of the towels.
no subject
Yep, I'm good! Legs are a little dead, but otherwise good! A-okaaaaay.
[ENOUGH FOCUS ON HER, THAT'S EMBARRASSING.]
Aaaanyway, we brought stuff, right? We should set it all up, I think. Let's go, Mary!
no subject
[ Regardless, she'll trot after Ruby, hands already working at gathering her hair up into a higher ponytail. She doesn't want sand in it just yet. ]
no subject
So that's how it works? I guess I should have thought of that, it seems pretty simple. [he's dumb, leave him alone.]
no subject
I will search the perimeter for maximum security. [It's the superhero part of him that Hiro's programmed and he begins to waddle off JUST TO MAKE SURE. It'll probably be about thirty seconds before he gets distracted by a starfish or something.
BUT. UMBRELLA! He's approaching and looking at the sand, poking at it with the toe of his sneaker.]
I think that's probably how it works. Aunt Cass used to have an umbrella stand but when that didn't work Tadashi and I would dig pretty far and bury it to secure it. It's not too windy either so it should stay. [He brightens up.] And we can use mine and Baymax's armor to secure the towels. Probably way more comfortable than rocks anyway. [He crouches down and starts to separate the sand.] Let's start here.

[Ruby has been watching too many survival shows/playing too many video games.]
And... other stuff too! Beach-y stuff!
[Nailed it.
A beat, and...]
Wow, Mary... Look at that water!

Hiro, you've gotta see this! C'mon!
[TUG TUG here's overexcitable girlfriend tugging Hiro right along towards the water proper.]
no subject
Hey! Where're we going?
no subject
[She keeps on tugging, out onto the sand and towards the water, until she stops right at the water's edge. It laps up a bit at their feet, but her eyes are fixed on the horizon.
And the sunset painting the sky a full array of warm oranges and reds and pinks. There's a bit of a blue and purple hue towards the bottom, and it all mirrors off of the ocean as well but overall...it's just pretty.]
... Isn't it great?
no subject
Wow...[It's pretty amazing, truth be told.] Check out all the colors. [He's even going to tug her forward a little further in the water like he wants to get close to it. He's been barefoot this whole time, so hopefully Ruby is too.] Ever see anything like this?
no subject
[Nothing like this, anyway--it's brand new to her too. She's seen sunsets, but this? This is it's own new experience.
So she follows along into the water, thankfully also still barefoot. And she just squeezes his hand a little.]
Isn't it great? It's just so.... so big and bright! Like nothing could ever stop it from being colorful just like this.

Even San Fransokyo's not this intense and we're by the bay. It's kinda weird to think that we don't see this kind of thing in the colony at all. [But this...it's sort of romantic, isn't it? He thinks it is. The covers of those romance novels Cass has sometimes and pretends not to have laying around sometimes feature sunsets and couples on a beach and staring romantically at each other. And...they had talked about going on more dates and he'd been thinking about being more romantic toward her (which is an embarrassing thing in and of itself) and while he's thinking about all of that he's sort of just looking at her without saying anything. So uh, sorry Ruby.]
...I probably can't think of better people to share it with, you know? [Roxas and Mary are back on the beach somewhere but he's not looking for them. He's hyperfocused at the moment.] I just wish we could stay here longer.
no subject
I know.
[She gets it (she thinks), even if the romantic feelings are still mostly feelings and not yet more than just fledgling thoughts. She's a bit overwhelmed by so much to think about, so mostly she's just thinking about how excited she is to be here with Hiro, and how fun it is to stand here, hand-in-hand with him (though there's the lingering thought too that it'd be fun to splash him, probably, but that's not romantic).]
But that just means...we have to make the most of it, you know? I think that makes it even more special. It feels more... once-in-a-lifetime-y, you know?
no subject
This feels way more like summer than anything else. [And so here they are. Hand in hand. In the water. And it's the same sort of feeling he had back in her living room on the couch with her half in his lap and both of them hovering over a laptop screen. The same sort where he didn't want to lose sight of her, wanted her to get how much she meant to him...and this was just like a scene out of one of Mary's manga right? So...he's allowing his brain to follow that path for a little while.] How far do you think the beach really goes?

when she wanders off, roxas doesn't immediately follow, but he'll come looking for her after a bit, allowing ruby and hiro some time to themselves and... well, he just wants to spend time with mary anyway.]
...Find anything good? [he's watching curiously from a few feet away, but it's dark enough that he can't see exactly what she's picking up from where he stands.]
no subject
Under the moonlight, they look like they're glowing.
no subject
Whoa... I don't think I've ever seen a shell like that one before. [it's pretty cool.]
