Lightning flashes. Thunder booms and rain patters on the roof. It’s all about ambience here in ViViD, of course. You gotta set the mood!

Welcome to the Pleasurable Super Youthful Caring Hospital Stage, PSYCHward for short. It works, shut up. It’s a stage created for your well-being, health and happiness. Be careful, though. The first step you take in the dilapidated asylum carries you right into a puddle.

Look down, and the puddle is red.

Ah.

Of course it’s blood.

It’s only going to get even more fun from here.

Good Day. I Am The New Introducer For ViViD Levels. Mosley? Who's That?

Anyway, Please Have Fun And Remember To Be Safe. Safety Is Our First Priority At CERES.

Thank you. Enjoy.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ 4:00 ] The first room any people familiar with the ViViD song and dance routine will find is one that is...wonderfully full of body bags. Body bags everywhere -- on the floor, on the shelves, uncomfortably tossed over the back of a chair...and each body bag has a helpful tag.

Handy.

Of course, within each bag is a newcomer; they won’t be able to escape the body bags until someone else unzips them. They’re dressed in little more than hospital gowns, toe tags still attached to bare feet.

Welcome to ViViD! Enjoy your stay.

Of course, there has to be an element of surprise to it. Some body bags contain living, breathing newcomers, yes. But the others?

These contain corpses. The toe tag on them indicates a loved one or someone important to you -- or someone you hate beyond all else. You open the bag, and there is their face, achingly familiar and frozen in death...but blink and suddenly they’re the corpse of a nondescript stranger.

PHASE II

[ 6:00 ] Step out of that room and now it’s the asylum proper. Lights flicker. It’s dark, but it’s still more than clear to anyone with ears -- something’s stalking everyone in this place.

The shadow flickers on the wall, the lights go out -- you turn a corner and there it is, jumping out at you with an unearthly cackle --

A puppet.

It hangs there limply, utterly harmless.

All around the facility, these harmless puppets lurk. In lockers, behind doors, in dark halls…

But they’re all literally inanimate and harmless. Whose dumb idea was that?

PHASE III

[ 10:00 ] But slowly, the atmosphere changes. Go in deeper, and the sounds around deaden until there’s nothing left but the dark all around and the sound of your own breathing. And yet, irrevocably you know, whether as an aspect of the level or something else entirely --

Something is actually hunting you now.

It makes no noise. It can’t be seen. But it’s stalking, and it’s on the hunt.

To make matters worse, now the asylum seems to have become a proper maze, with dead ends everywhere, and practically no light to see them by.

And the only other souls you’ll see are the other people stuck in the maze -- but there’s something not quite right about them either. You can see...bits of their code, lurking under the surface of their skin, and as you watch, it’s being corrupted, bit by bit, the longer they’re in the dark.

If you look down, it’s happening to you too.
Better hurry.

There’s only one way out.

PHASE IV

[ 14:00 ] And then you step through a doorway into light.

You escaped the maze, but this is an asylum, and you’re about to see why. There are rows upon rows of cages of aliens. They cry out and reach out through the bars with webbed or clawed hands or tentacles, begging for release.

Let them out, or don’t -- the exit to Cerealia proper is right there at the end of this room, inviting and safe.

But if you do elect to let them out, the entire room suddenly goes silent.

And there, in that cage you opened, there is no longer an alien, but instead a doll. And it’s watching you. Stay any longer, and the doll with start to move, reaching -- and if it touched you, suddenly you’re the one locked away behind bars.

On the plus side, when you take the exit to Cerealia, it’ll deposit you in the Pleasure District, where massagebots will reach for you to try to drag you in for a sensual massage.

Welcome!

PENALTY

[ ??:?? ] You were caught in the maze.

It’s hard to say even now what it was that caught you, but now you’re strapped down to an operating table, and there’s a flat-faced doctor standing above you.

The restraints can’t be broken.

There’s a prick of a needle, and you fall unconscious -- and that’s probably a mercy. When you wake up, you’ll be back in the asylum somewhere, but missing a sense -- the one from your character’s application will be gone. A character who is sight will have been blinded, for instance, and a character who is touch will feel nothing. This will last until they log out of ViViD and get into Cerealia.

[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with sensitive or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

Oh boy.

[Naoki grins over at her through the gloom, his eyebrows quirking up. Chatting it is. Fine by him, it's been too long since he actually has been able to talk to Pyrrha.] Lemme guess, it was totally ready to fight you?

[ Reciting a pleasant memory from easier times is comforting; with that comfort, and his easy grin, Pyrrha softens somewhat. Not relaxing, but almost. ]

It was totally ready to fight me, [ she agrees. ] I don't think disturbing its rest was the soundest choice, tactically. It chased me out of its cavern and all through a large clearing in the forest.
masakados: (leaving traces)

[personal profile] masakados 2016-07-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
But you managed to take it down, yeah?

[This right at the beginning... what a start to it all, huh? Beacon has always sounded like quite the place, even if now-- well. He brushes the thought aside.]

[personal profile] metalist 2016-07-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I had my team with me.

[ Had. It's a yes, although she's in no hurry to explicitly confirm it. ]

... Team RWBY were the real stars, though. They performed exceptionally that day.
masakados: (to the vultures)

[personal profile] masakados 2016-07-22 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Warmth comes into Naoki's gaze for a moment-- it says something that he's so happy when he hears about Yang or Ruby performing well. The situation might be vastly different now, but still.]

You should gimme some more details-- I hardly ever hear about this stuff.

[ ... Pyrrha is silent for a moment, thinking, and then grants his request. ]

Well -- Ruby and Jaune were in a tree, and Nora had somehow seized control of an ursa and ridden it all the way to the clearing. [ Pyrrha had only heard about that part afterward. She's always regretted not seeing it firsthand. ] Our mission that day wasn't to engage the enemy, we were simply supposed to retrieve and bring back our relics. Unfortunately, two grimm came bearing down on us. When it became clear retreat would be impossible, we all ended up fighting.

[ Pyrrha notably doesn't tell him that the cavern monster chasing her had caught up and bitchslapped her halfway across the clearing until she was face first in the dirt right beside Yang's boots, or that Yang had lost her patience with all the chaos, or that Ruby had recklessly thrown herself into the path of a Death Stalker.

Rather, because Pyrrha has a feeling about what he'd like to hear, she focuses on Team RWBY's cooperation and success. ]

We took down the Death Stalker on top of a crumbling ruin in the middle of a deep chasm, but Team RWBY's threat was a bit more significant. The average Nevermore grows to the size of an industrial airship. I believe Ruby was the one who came up with the idea how to defeat it.

[ But wait, there's more! ... TBC. ]
masakados: (i'm taking my dollars)

[Naoki's smiling at her as soon as she says well. Thank you for indulging him, Pyrrha.]

Huh. [What colourful characters they all are. He reminds himself to meet the rest of them one day. Also she should've totally told him about the failures, he would've taken it in with just as much interest and maybe even a smile-- since Yang isn't around to give him a look.]

An airship... so you guys have those back in your world. [Idle comment, don't mind him. He's picturing something at least the size of a blimp, then.] Ruby's pretty good with strategies... And coming up with names for them.

[Especially the last bit.]

Yes. I think Jaune tried to mimic her strategy names, with... mixed results.

[ She's being charitable. Arkos is still a bewildering, baffling name for a team attack as far as Pyrrha's concerned, and, well. Let's not even get started on Flour Power. -- Thinking of them now, though? Something in Pyrrha deflates. The charm of early memories is wearing off quickly. Through no fault of Naoki's own, she just looks unhappy again. ]

Um, is it alright if I finish the story another time?
masakados: (because we’re living on top)

[personal profile] masakados 2016-07-25 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoki can feel the shift in mood as well as see it-- and his own expression sobers, his head ducking apologetically.]

Yeah, of course. I don't want to bring you down.

[Though perhaps he's already failed, in that.]

[personal profile] metalist 2016-07-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She feels a little ashamed at eliciting such a response, but a larger part of Pyrrha is grateful he left off so kindly. ]

No, you didn't.

[ Not entirely, anyway. Her reassurance is a bit token. ]

I ... assume Ruby or Yang kept you apprised of everything that happened on our world?

masakados: (our convictions and sorrow)

[personal profile] masakados 2016-07-27 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoki's gaze drifts away and he nods slightly, after a moment.]

Yeah. I know basically what happened.

[He knows the basics of what happened with Yang, too, but-- it's still too hard for her to talk about, and Naoki has no reason to push her into it. She might never be able to talk about it, and that's fine too.]

So, there's nothing to catch me up on. [He gives her a smile, but there's something in it. Regret, perhaps. Empathy.]
metalist: (61)

[personal profile] metalist 2016-07-27 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Balefully relieved, she nods. He said exactly the right thing, although Pyrrha can only take so much comfort in it. ]

I'd like to hear about what you've been up to.

[ "Please, take control of the conversation," is what she means. ]
masakados: (did I up and lose it completely?)

[personal profile] masakados 2016-07-29 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Where should I start?

[He'll readily take that, then, not bothered with leading the conversation.] Well, I'm still spending plenty of time in ViViD. Though usually when it's not like this. Puts enough money in the bank.

Besides that, I'm still training a lot of the time...
