Who: Sousei + Milla, Shinpachi, Takakage, Kaoru Kamiya, Seri, Katsushiro
When: TODAY because...why not... plus 02/04 for Katsushiro because he's special
Where: Mostly the gym/dojo, occasionally elsewhere
What: Sousei's day is a little more exciting than he expects it to be, really.
Rating/Warnings: N....one...hopefully??? let's not get too crazy here
takakage;
[He's been musing over this a lot, lately. Tenka had told him plenty of what had happened, of course, and while he wasn't in his own right mind for that entire event, he knows for a fact Takakage was. In a way, anyone willing to use this place against others in order to learn information or gain more towards their own ends was someone who was dangerous.
He's not intending to seek him out, he really isn't.
In fact, he still hasn't decided what he intends to do when he stumbles across Takakage in the library, on his way to explore yet another modern concept he has only recently learned about (iPhones, this time), but it isn't in Sousei's nature to freeze or back away from a confrontation. He blinks, slowly, and then he tucks the book under his arm and steps forward.]
Kobayakawa Takakage.
kaoru;
[After the fiasco that is Shirasu and him meeting in the same lunch room, Sousei honestly has no interest in meeting his other co-workers. It just...doesn't seem like a worthwhile use of his time. But it is as he's walking towards where he should be working that he finds her (martial...arts...?) and for a moment, he pauses to watch.
... .... .... There are a lot of people with surprising abilities here, but this is a bit more familiar to him.
Nonetheless, when he does finally have to cross the room, he does so with a polite--]
Pardon me for interrupting.
shinpachi;
[HE'S FINALLY MADE IT TO WORK aka the dojo....which is honestly a place that's a bit satisfying for him to be in these days. He can breathe, here. It's still foreign in some ways, but in most ways, it's so familiar that it could hurt...
Nonetheless, his own sword rests properly away, though he has still yet to find anyone who is a proper challenge enough to really interest him.
Of course, that's partially because he hasn't been there when Shinpachi has--and when he sees the other walk in, there's no doubt that his interest doubles.]
... Nagakura Shinpachi. Good afternoon. [As calm as his tone is, though, there's...the definite interest there. Sparring with a Shinsengumi captain who isn't a bloodthirsty vampire could be interesting, couldn't it...]
seri;
[okay today is a day that's full of interesting meetings... Sousei has only managed to put the place back in order when there's another familiar face, and he pauses, tilting his head slightly at her, though he isn't surprised, necessarily.
He'd noted her sword before, after all, and she carries herself as the sort of person who is very competent at what she does.
So, mildly, as she walks in--]
Are you here to practice?
milla;
[It's been such an eventful day that Sousei feels zero guilt about taking a break. He's usually workaholic to the point of filling up all of his hours in whatever way is best, honestly, but... here, there is less to do, and so hobbies are a required part of any daily routine.
Hobbies like video games.
Admittedly, he didn't really enjoy them that much from what he saw with Tenka. They were loud and fast-paced and not really his thing. But that was before he stumbled across the hand-held game and the little town that requires micromanaging and simple tasks to turn it into a functioning place and who would've thought that Sousei would get hooked on a game like this (Cerealia's version of animal crossing has far too many robots, not that he notices).
Regardless, he's seated outside of the gym, peering down at the handheld game with a surprising amount of concentration.
Clearly he requires bothering.]
katsushiro;
[It is a calm day at the dojo--or at least, it is until Sousei hears the tell-tale sounds of someone else practicing. He arches an eyebrow (he's always interested in the people who come to practice on their own, without prompting) and steps in quietly, and...ah.
Katsushiro, yes. He remembers.
He has good form, though it's obvious that he's still relatively new to the sword, but not a pro kendo master or no, you just don't interrupt people who are practicing.
And so, Sousei is quietly, observing thoughtfully, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. He'll speak up when Katsu is finished, if he doesn't notice him first.]

Why is this his life........
He sighs, soft and nearly silent, and the nods shortly. He'll go fetch a practice sword (setting his actual sword aside as he does), and then return to that place in front of her. Too late to back down now.]
Very well then. I am ready.
no subject
R-right!!
[Why was it suddenly so intimidating? His energy of course was very different from someone like Kenshin. Kenshin gave off the air of a calm quiet breeze on a warm autumn day and Sousei was a lot like a cold brisk gust. She waits for him to go into a stance before advancing. She was careful, treating it like any other opponent but it wasn't long before she was grabbing him and he would find himself flat on his back as she used his weight to send him down. She would have to apologize to him of course - that first step normally involves a blow to the knee cap with her own weapon as a means of stunning him before disabling him entirely.]

So while he shifts to make sure he falls properly, he doesn't try to stop that throw, and it connects solidly. But at the very least, he falls in such a way that he manages to roll to his feet again easily enough, as if she hadn't just thrown him right down to the ground.
If he was a lesser man he might've wheezed a little though. He's Sousei though, so he doesn't, instead taking a slow, silent breath to bring air back into his lungs. ...And a nod, acknowledging.]
That's impressive.
no subject
Were you all paying attention? I want you to practice that for a while! Try not to hurt one another either! This is a good tool for disabling an opponent not doing permanent damage to your classmates.
[Shooing them off to practice and pair off, she turns to Sousei with a bright smile and a light flush of embarrassment. She had put him on the spot, hadn't she...
She bows a bit in gratitude before tucking a stray hair behind her ear.]
Thank you so much for the help! I apologize for having you do that out of the blue. How are your lessons going?
no subject
It was no problem. [It really hardly took any time at all, and he got a pretty good glimpse into some impressive martial arts, so it's not like it was a bad thing.]
The students are progressing as can be expected. [aka slower than he would like but he doesn't really enjoy teaching people who don't already have the spark of really, really wanting to learn. It's a waste of his time otherwise.
Alas.]
Are you particularly familiar with kendo as well?
no subject
Mm. Yes! I was in charge of my father's dojo after he'd passed on and taught our school's techniques to a few of the boys in the area.
[They didn't make a lot of money but it still was rewarding in its own way.]
What about you?
[If he wanted to talk about his experience that was definitely her opening the floor for him to do so.]
no subject
That's impressive.
[That's an honorable task to take on. He does mean it, honestly. As for himself...]
I am unfamiliar with teaching, though I had a very skilled master.
[he's strong, that's for sure, and very good at swordfighting. Just...not so much at teaching.]
no subject
[If only because he said it's impressive that she ran her father's dojo and she really does think Sousei is a great person even if this is one of their longer conversations ever. They're still getting to know one another but that's even more reason to want to help, right?]
I mean- if they give you any difficulties... not that I doubt your capabilities.
no subject
Nonetheless, he tilts his head slightly, giving no indication of being offended or anything at those words.]
I will keep your offer in mind. [mostly, he's just ridiculously strict...those poor students.]
I have a student in my world, but his level of discipline is greater than the students here. [he has a spark!! these people don't. It's....boring and a waste of his time.]
no subject
Ah, well I would say it's the same for me? He's kind of a pain in the neck at times but at the same time he's a good student. I feel like he could even teach at other schools if he wanted to someday. Maybe not quite yet, but he'll get there.
[She gives a small smile, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes. She's still half convinced and half hopeful that the claims that their homes are gone.]
no subject
Nonetheless, he can't do his proper duty here, so what else can he do?]
Perhaps. [Honestly? He doesn't see why not.] If that is your intuition about him, it is likely correct. You are his teacher, after all.
[And he's starting to realize, bit by bit, that that's a special bond.]
no subject
[Story time, Sousei!! Tell her about him!
Okay she might be a little too excited to hear it. Someone like Sousei surely had a great student.]
no subject
nahhhh]
He has exceeded my expectations and proven to be a very diligent, hard-working student. I do not regret taking him on.
For that reason, as his Master, I will teach him as best I am able to.
no subject
[Nice save...?]
no subject
not that she's wrong, but still.
He lets his gaze and the silence linger for just a moment past uncomfortable--and then he speaks again.]
He is, yes. I do not have the time or patience to tolerate time-wasters.
no subject
Oh god is he mad? He's probably mad this is so uncomfortable --]
Oh. Then he must be as patient and kind as you.
[SHE TOTALLY MEANS THAT AS A COMPLIMENT. He seems like the patient type deep down, when he finds a student to really spark his interest. He was certainly serious and dedicated enough.]
no subject
??????]
... What are you talking about?
[HE'S NOT KIND HE'S VICIOUS AND CRUEL.]
Taking on my student was a matter of even exchange. He had something of worth for me.
no subject
[WOW SHE'S SO WRONG ABOUT HIM. Wait isn't his student like a kid or something... what would he get from a kid??]
So then he was paying you?
[That's not an unusual thing. Her dojo needed money when it came down to it, an unfortunate necessity.]
no subject
[yes he's totally forcing a kid to pay him money!!!!]
He did something for my squad once. In exchange, I am helping him grow stronger.
no subject
Oh.
[Yeah, of course it would be that. Good job Kaoru. Good job...
She hums thoughtfully before turning her head a bit to see how her students are progressing. So far no slackers, but she's ready to whip them into shape if so.]
I think anyone who is fortunate to find a skilled teacher should consider themselves lucky. Not everyone is given the chance and not everyone understands that sort of bond. To be able to impart wisdom... it's important, don't you think?
no subject
Yes, it is.
[That much...is clear.]
I had a very wise master myself. I have a very good example to strive to emulate. [So he will. He'll strive and strive and strive, until he can be as good a teacher as Kumou Taiko, though he never expected to even have that as a requirement in his life.
But he did see that glance towards her class.]
Nonetheless, I will stop interrupting your own teaching now.
