PHASE I [ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.
They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.
They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.
But good luck.
Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.
They’re here to kill you all. :)
PHASE II [ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.
But people are there.
Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.
And…
Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.
Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.
Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.
As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.
There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.
PHASE III [ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.
Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.
Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.
Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.
They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.
Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.
Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.
Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.
Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!
PHASE IV [ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.
Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --
And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.
Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.
They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --
But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.
With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.
BONUS [ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?
Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --
But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.
Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.
Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

[There it is. Of course it is.]
[Chibi may not have future vision here, but he knows the signs of something descending when he sees them: Mosley's break, the dream saying 'they come,' the sense of foreboding around the colony. He felt it in the air about Cerealia's walls, the constriction of air around code, the knowledge of the end. Yet, looking up at the spaceship-darkened sky, he sees nothing but the Mechasms' shadow.]
[More to himself than anyone next to him, he says, voice filled with a mixed dread and awe:] So it's finally come - the end. [He'll be concerned about this all later.]
[He was supposed to be dead long ago, after all.]
three-a.
[Well, guess who has a mask dripping blood tied to the end of his hat? Well, guess who is currently running from a mass of black, masks all askew, whipping air about their fractal-like reaches?]
[That's the good thing about portals, though: they make it very easy to run away, to skirt the edges of the Flamines' boundary and get in blue-burning punches and kicks where he can. (That's also the good thing about wakfu: it's very spiritual. The blows he gets in definitely have an impact, but it's fleeting. Damn it.) If you're fighting, that's how you'll find him: endlessly in motion, striking and then hopping many meters back, keeping the Flamines fighting him locked in a chase.]
[If you're running, though, he'll take you with him: you'll be snatched from the jaws of peril right through a portal at your feet, grabbed by a speeding Eliatrope, and carted off. Anyone not used to spatial weirdness might be struck nauseous, but it's better than being dead, right? Chibi will breathe out an apology:]
Sorry, just-- Figured I'd give you a lift-- [He doesn't stop, though.]
three-b.
[Well, unfortunately, desperate times call for desperate measures.]
[Chibi's got blood up his side, and his cloak is torn in the same place, flapping in two different directions as he leaps barefoot through portal after portal. He's a lot more stable than he usually is, though, and a quick look will confirm why: his hat is tied to his belt, and his head is going bare. There are bright blue wakfu wings cropping out from above his ears, spreading and flexing against his motions through the air. He's literally flying with his head.]
[So there's that.]
wildcard.
[hit that pp up at

[The voice seems to speak into his mind directly.]
I can't believe I've been stuck here for a year. ...That's what? 1/10000th of my life. A whole 1/10000th! Do you know what I could have done with this time? I could have made a new continent. I could have made a new species!
I could have learned to tap dance.

And instead, we spent it here, upon the shores of a world more war-torn than we might have imagined. [There's little dread in his voice now, only a somber appreciation.] Fate takes us in some strange directions.
no subject
[The voice sighs.]
All we have to do now is kill 'em all. Can't be too hard, right?
3b!
Eh—? Are you okay?!
[Like he's pretty sure this is (probably) normal (for Chibi) but he needs to make sure, what with everything going insane as one and all.]
no subject
Trying to get to the apartment building, someone-- Said they would wipe the mask, but-- [Let him catch his breath!!] I do not want to bring them with me.
no subject
Can I help? You don't sound super good.
[That's the benefit of being a cheating spirit with a fake body. No matter how beat up it gets, he can still function pretty well.]
3a
of course, before he can get too close, he's suddenly snatched up and whooshed through a portal with his boyfriend. okay]
What the-- Chibi!

[Chibi sails through another portal with England still in his arms, pulled nice and close. He'd thought he'd seen someone running, but he knows from the feeling in his arms that it's England, now. If those Flamines were giving him trouble...]
[But there's more to worry about, particularly the two going after him.]
Doesn't seem like they like my mask, I'm afraid. [His ragged voice takes on a playful, sing-song tone.] Don't get yourself hurt, but are you ready for a fight?
no subject
ugh, he had hoped that it wouldn't come to this, that they would have been able to make some sort of deal with the Flamines. how foolish he'd been. they came here ready for war]
no subject
[Chibi drops closer to the ground so England can keep up with him, then breaks for the line of black and eyes and masks that is reaching around them. His hands and feet are glowing with wakfu, all of his energy centered into the blows he plans to make.] Let's go!
no subject
immediately, he starts hacking and slashing, entirely focused. he is someone who knows how to handle a weapon, and he's trained with this particular weapon during his stay in Cerealia. several Flamines go down immediately, perhaps because they are too stunned at England's skill level. but the rest... are challenging. it's all right, though. as long as England can keep them from going after someone else, he's fine with that. he'll fight as long as he has to]
no subject
[Chibi's obviously pushing himself, but he keeps going: eternally in motion, feet and portals as quick as he can manage. He's noticed, though, that parts of them disintegrate when they come into contact with wakfu. It's hardly a cure-all, but it's enough that Chibi's started firing off beams of wakfu through portals: it's not his preferred means of attack, but when he can't get close, it works. When he can get close, though, he smacks angry fists into the black masses.] Don't like that, do you? [As though they'd understand him or get angry, he leaps right out of their range, keeping them running back and forth in a chase.]
[--And then one of the ones England dispatched starts trying to come back together.]
Ah, fuck.
no subject
...We're not going to win this.

The end? N-no, it can't be...

[Sheepishly, he waves his hands around, trying to calm Phoenix down a bit. He really hadn't meant to make it worse!!]
Now, I did not mean the end of the world or anything! [Yes, he did.] I simply meant that it seemed... [A sigh.] I feel that the sprawling poem of Cerealia is in its final stanzas.
[He looks up at that ship again, hovering like a watchman over the break in the clouds.] The Flamines are here, it seems.
1/3
Oh! Yeah, you know, it sounds a lot better when you put it that way. More calming... and poetic!

[Back to the panicking.]

I know what vengeful alien ships look like, I am afraid, and if that is not a vengeful alien ship, I will eat my hat. [Not literally.] All we can do now is try to remain safe.
no subject
At least he does look a bit more rational as the initial shock passes, and Chibi's words help. It gives him something to focus on, something relatively doable.]
...You're right. We have to warn everyone and try to find shelter. [He already has his cerevice out and working on mass texts.]
no subject
[A guess that is coming true, but details.]
Shelter... Buildings will serve for now, but we may have to get underground. [He thinks a moment, and then the horns on his hat perk up.] I recall a place underground - sort of like tunnels?
no subject
I think I know what you're talking about - that labyrinth that's beyond that hole in the wall? ...It might work, although that area is very dangerous in itself.
