The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

[If Baymax has been on guard for a while, then Phoenix probably exchanged pleasantries with him on the way in and isn't surprised by Hiro's presence. It's easy to guess one reason why Hiro would want to come here. But he's still surprised by actually bumping into him and takes a step back warily. Luckily, there's no actual attack, and Phoenix's shoulders sag in relief as he addresses the tiny hero.]

...They have my daughter, Hiro.

And other people who are important to me. [And he's worried about the idea that Maya, Mia and Pearls might not be there at all. But he knows that he has to look and do what he can to help.]
zerotohiro: ([armor] I take that back)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-04 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[More than likely pleasantries were exchanged between robot and lawyer and Baymax may have tried to warn Hiro and Hiro ignored him. Hiro's good like that. Still, his face turns down into a small frown when Phoenix explains.]

Trucy. [He remembers that much.] ...Tadashi and Honey Lemon and Wasabi are somewhere in here, too. If we can get them out of here, they can come help and we can keep them safe. [That's his logic, anyway. He doesn't know how many people Phoenix has lost but he can imagine it's a lot, too.] We can look together...? Might go faster.
bewrightback: (give this one some more thought)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-04 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods to confirm her name and then again at Hiro's suggestion.]

...I have no objection to that. We can't be too careful, with how today's been going do far...

Now where do we even start?
zerotohiro: (No kidding?)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-06 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Well...if this is the entrance there's probably another exit, right? We can start at the very edge of how far the Nexus goes and work our way back this way. That way we can get an idea of who's actually in here. What do you think?
bewrightback: (let's make criminals look foolish)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-06 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Phoenix nods.]

Well, it makes sense. We might as well! Okay then, Hiro, let's get started! [He tries to put on an optimistic smile, as if this won't just be a tour of frozen people.]
zerotohiro: (Actually kind of childish sometimes)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[It's fine, Phoenix. Even if it's not as optimistic as it could be it helps him stay calm enough as he begins leading them back to the far edge of the Nexus.]

We'll find them in no time...then it's just gonna be figuring out a way to wake them up. I've never been in here before. Do we know what's causing them to stay asleep and frozen like this?
bewrightback: (give this one some more thought)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-07 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I was here once before. [He strokes at his chin as he looks around thoughtfully.]

...I don't think anyone's been able to figure that one out, though. My only theory is that it has something to do with our 'code' or however it is that CERES has had such control over us. ...Maybe it's like hitting the pause button on them? [It's better than considering that they might be dead, at least.]
zerotohiro: (Well that's a surprise)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Athena showed me pictures once. That's the only reason I know. [But there's a small amused grin.] You don't know much about code, do you Phoenix? [He's being a little bratty in his response, but he doesn't seem to mind explaining his thoughts. Phoenix earned his respect a long time ago.]

It's a good theory that it has to do with the code, but instead of a pause I'm wondering if part of the code's just been erased. When you're writing code you can do all sorts of customizations for everything you could imagine. For example, you know how you can look at a website and you'll see all kinds of colors and fonts and links and everything that makes that page unique? All code. But if that code's not closed, it won't function at all. Maybe that's what this is...whoever's in charge of the Nexus reopened the code so that it's "offline" and doesn't function at all.

The thing is...we don't know where the archives are to fix all of this. Only CERES does.
bewrightback: (this is a more contemplatey face)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He tries his best to soak that information in and avoid just suggesting ctrl-alt-delete. There's a brief pause before he speaks.]

...Huh. I think I get what you mean.

So the keys are all in CERES's hands? Does that mean that Mosley can handle it?
zerotohiro: (/bottles up feelings for ten years)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-15 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. [That's where it gets tricky.] Before he disappeared again, we talked about how he could take over for Bellona and he'd have access to all of the files and everything. I could have helped him with that but now I don't even know where he is. But Mosley knows the ins and outs of the company and our worlds. If we keep anybody alive, it should be him.

[He glances back out to the rift opening in the Nexus.] I mean I want to keep everyone alive, but you know what I mean.
bewrightback: (is there something on my face)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-16 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
R-right! Of course. I didn't worry otherwise for a second there... [He says with a nervous chuckle.]

...But you're right. So not even you know where Mosley is? I guess that's another thing we'll have to look into. On top of... well, this entire mess.

[Things can never be easy, can they...]
zerotohiro: (Because we can)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-16 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[The look he gives Phoenix is pretty much on that says "really?", but he can't exactly blame him.] Riiight.

[The rest though…] Mm-mm. I have some guesses but nothing concrete. He hasn't answered me yet either but I'm hoping he'll make it a little more clear sooner or later. He's either underground or he's up in the air though, I bet. It depends where Bellona is.
bewrightback: (Default)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-18 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right, Bellona. He was supposed to hand her over, wasn't he? That's what we agreed on. If the Flamines are still attacking us... I hope that something didn't go wrong.
zerotohiro: (Wonderment)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-21 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Supposed to. I know he was having some problems deciding but that was the last I heard...but if he was successful that doesn't explain why they're still attacking, you're right. [He scrubs a hand over his face.] We should finish our sweep in here and get back out there. Ready?
bewrightback: (this my really really neutral face)

[personal profile] bewrightback 2016-11-21 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm ready... Let's do this.

[He flashes Hiro an attempt at a reassuring smile, and the Tour of Dropped People ensues.]
