The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

Both actually, but can we talk about their really ugly faces first? What was that all about? The last time we spoke with the Flamines they told me that our masks are our true faces. Wonder why it's not the same for them.

...they kind of remind me of those machine monsters we found in the labyrinth. The ones with all of the faces? Remember those?
immobileyes: (But you... had a dere moment...)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-05 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
The ones that kept putting themselves back together...?

[ ... ]

Can they do that??
zerotohiro: (Fuck duct tape)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-06 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, them. And I haven't thought about that but now you're making me wonder...if they look similar, why wouldn't they be able to do something similar? Maybe it's something about that place that allows that ability.

If they can though...what're we supposed to do to stop them? We had to run away after a while when it was you, me, Ruby and Roxas.
immobileyes: (35 pages on ff.net says you're hella gay)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-06 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mary's quiet for a few seconds, hair flying about and thankfully not smacking her in the face as she ponders. ]

... Maybe we can't stop them. We just have to keep them from hurting people until they decide to stop.
zerotohiro: (Tough choices)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
[That's always a good thing. He pauses to look over at her for a moment.]

Maybe that's not a bad idea. How can we get them to stop? We keep freezing them until everybody gets to safety? [Stopping, it seems, doesn't sound like it's a real option.]
immobileyes: The following shall be known as I will never use bloopers as keywords again (That's the end)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-07 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
We'd have to get close enough, take their masks off, and get them to look at us... so that might be hard. And that might make you really tired if you do it for too long.

[ Not impossible, but Hiro doesn't have any medusa blood in him. She's pretty sure he did what she could do, but any of her human friends overusing their eye abilities left them exhausted; it might be the same for him. ]
zerotohiro: (Welp.)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He hesitates then.]

...I don't know how that happened. I don't have powers like you, but it still totally froze up. Does it make you tired, too? [He's not going to use her or anything but he's curious, as always. He doesn't always know how his friends' powers work.] Is that why you take naps?
immobileyes: (It really is such a little d)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-10 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's shaking her head, frowning now. ]

No... I think because I was born with it. And it's not as strong as my mother's, so it's not dangerous to me...

I just take naps because I get tired a lot from walking.

[ This wimp. ]
zerotohiro: (Well that's a surprise)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is probably good for us. That's the last thing we need. [But he pauses to give her a bemused expression.] Mary? If we live through this, remind me to start helping you boost your stamina.

Think this is dangerous for me then?
immobileyes: (Determination at 45%)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-16 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
We're gonna live through this. [ duh. Dying's not an option? But for now, Mary merely presses her lips together and studies him. ]

It shouldn't be dangerous, though. You'll just get really tired if you use it too much, so don't do it unless you have to. I can do it, anyway.
zerotohiro: ([armor] Roger that)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-16 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[They're silently flying along to safety, but he's keeping his eyes on the sky for any attacks that might sneak up on them.]

…we'll just have to stick together then. [As if he had any other plan.] And we should find Roxas and Ruby. Have you seen either of them?
immobileyes: (What's a siscon?)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-17 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen Ruby yet... [ a pause, and she's sighing loudly. ] I saw Roxas, though, but we got separated.
zerotohiro: (Wonderment)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-17 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ruby and I got separated too. Maybe those two are together if you and me are together. [A pause...] Wait, how did you and Roxas get separated?
immobileyes: (Stamina at .2%)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-18 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
... A bunch of those guys ran between us.

[ ... It's not the most impressive reason ever. ]
zerotohiro: (Why...)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-18 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
[...SIGH.]

Good thing is that Roxas can take care of himself. Same with Ruby. [It's...not a secret that these two are the ones at a disadvantage.] Baymax should be able to find them as long as they aren't glitching, too.
immobileyes: (See then the rose petals--)

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-19 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
If Baymax can't find them, I bet we still could... I mean we're up here, and Ruby and Roxas are really hard to miss!

[ with the giant scythe and the keyblades... ]
zerotohiro: (Well that's a surprise)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-21 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If they're not moving at super speeds. Have you seen them? Imagine that but glitched out. [How about they don't though?] Roxas always has his Keyblades right? Ruby's most likely gonna meet us in the air on accident.
immobileyes: (See no evil (wait Kano's still here))

[personal profile] immobileyes 2016-11-22 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
U-um-- should we be ducking? Now?

[ JUST IN CASE? ]
zerotohiro: ([armor] Which means what...?)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-22 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that's not a bad idea. [Yikes.] Lay low and stick close to Baymax. If Ruby shows up, I can grab her before she lands and then we'll find Roxas.
