The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

[He hears his name, and he hears Tadashi's name, and for a moment he struggles to place the voice. It's only when he turns around and spots a boy who's name a lot closer in age than he remembers that he understands.]

Dude. [It's all he says at first, simply staring at Taichi in awe.] Did you age in here, too? That keeps happening. [Here's looking at you, other Chosen Children. This is enough to get him to stop paying attention to Tadashi for a moment even if his hand is still on him.]
degoggled: (off to school)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even with grim atmosphere of the Nexus Code, Taichi can't help but be amused by Hiro's reaction, and he smirks lightly in response.]

I know... it's starting to become an epidemic. [A beat, before he goes on a little more seriously.] It's been three years for me, just like with Hikari and Takeru. Guess I took my time catching up.
zerotohiro: (It's gotta be something good)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-06 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Unbelievable. [He's still looking at Taichi with blatant curiosity even if he won't move away from Tadashi at all.] You aren't kidding. Does that mean you really do remember everything from your first stay here? [And then he frowns thoughtfully.] Wonder why you guys are coming back now instead of sooner.
degoggled: (speaking calmly)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-06 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! Do you think I just guessed your name, Hiro? [He says with a smirk.] As for the 'why'... I probably have even less of a clue than you do. I'm not even sure what's going on right now...
zerotohiro: (It's gotta be something good)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you never know in a place like this. [He eases up at least and rewards him with a grin of his own.]

...Taichi. Did anybody ever tell you about the Flamines while you were here? [Education is probably the best thing he can do for people right now.]
degoggled: (determined)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-07 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The Flamines... [He pauses for a moment as he tries to place the name.]

Oh! I did hear about them. Aren't they the ones who they say destroyed our homeworlds? [His expression grows more grim as he considers that.]
zerotohiro: ([armor] Do your thing)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-07 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, those guys. Not just our worlds, but some of the worlds of other people on this planet, too. They say that they have a deal with CERES that CERES never owned up to and that they were out of time and needed to collect. [He gestures to the rift leading to the outside world.]

That was months ago. They finally showed up but CERES is out of sight now.
degoggled: (you messed up)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-09 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Now Taichi looks tense and alarmed as he pieces that together.]

What?! You mean, they're here now?

[Then he grimaces as he realizes what CERES's absence means.]

...And we're the ones stuck with their mess.
zerotohiro: ([armor] Which means what...?)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-15 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we're the welcoming committee. [At least Taichi seems to get it and he shakes his head.] Quick question, how well can you do in a fight?
degoggled: (ready to fight)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
A friend of mine would tell you I have a pretty mean punch! [He smirks mischievously as he says that and brandishes a fist.

But the smile dies a bit as he goes on.]

...But against anything that's super strong, I can only do so much without Agumon.
zerotohiro: (Enter the nerd lab)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-16 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
As much as I wish that was enough, that's true. [Good point. But.]

--dude, where is Agumon? I thought you guys were together last time.
degoggled: (you messed up)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-17 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Taichi tenses as he reflects on his absent partner.]

I don't know... I didn't see him when I woke up. We were separated the first time I came here, so it might be the same this time, too. I have to find him...!
zerotohiro: (Is that..?)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-17 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Same with me and Baymax. [He shakes his head, setting his expression to something more determined.] We should head out there and find him, and fast. Baymax and I can probably scan for him and find him faster.
degoggled: (neutral face)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-18 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Good thinking, Hiro. Let's do it! [But he hesitates as sees Tadashi again out of the corner of his eye.]

...But are you sure you don't need a moment first?
zerotohiro: (They are here)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2016-11-21 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[He pauses to look at Tadashi, hand still on him and he slowly shakes his head.]

You'd think, but...let's just say this isn't the first time I've ever had to say goodbye to him. It'll be okay. [He lifts his head, trying for a grin.]I'll come back for him. But I can't do anything if there's no colony to bring him back to anyway.
degoggled: (ready to fight)

[personal profile] degoggled 2016-11-21 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Taichi is all about that pragmatic answer, and gives his own determined smile in return.]

Good thinking. Then let's head right out there and show them what we're made of!
