The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

[The Lurchthorn is pretty cool and all, but Viridi has yet to leave a similar impression due to what happened during their first meeting. Izumi rubs the back of his head.]

Isn't that because you sound too aggressive all the time? I mean, that voicemail you left was pretty interesting, but it was way too long!
forceofnature: (Command)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-05 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! That's right!

[Viridi ignores everything else he said.]

What's the secret code?! If you don't know it, I'm cursing your descendants to the sixth generation with premature balding!
bulletfool: (63)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-05 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Huh?

[To be honest, Izumi doesn't remember. Well, he knows that it was a vegetable – or was it a fruit?]

I know you mentioned it, but that was way too long ago!
forceofnature: (Confused)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wrong!! It's cucumber.

[...]

Wait, no. Eggplant. I think. Rutabaga? Rutabaga sounds right. I don't really like rutabaga, to be honest; I can't imagine what I was thinking when I made it. Probably that it was a good laugh.

Anyway!

The point is, get ready to spend the rest of your life savings on toupees.
bulletfool: (04)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, do you hear yourself? You should remember these things.

[Even she doesn't remember!?]

Anyway, there's no way that it was rutabaga.
forceofnature: (Surprise)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-05 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
OK, who's the infallible goddess here? The one riding on a majestic mount into battle or the one squirming on the ground?

[So um aren't there like aliens to kill or something.]

Great, now look what you did. They're getting away!

[Viridi's mask, incidentally, is feathery and the Flamines keep a wide berth.]
bulletfool: (66)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-06 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
["Squirming" is such an unpleasant verb.

Anyway, Izumi is in possession of one (1) :( mask, which hasn't done him many favors. He's fine with keeping distance.]

I'll leave them to you, then. You were doing some serious damage earlier.
forceofnature: (Command)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-07 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see how it is. You can be bothered to show me respect when I'm saving your skin, but not when I'm taking it upon myself to educate you out of the goodness of my heart.

Well, butter my biscuit and call me Sally, 'cause I'm not gonna move one pinky muscle to help you out this time.

[Viridi crosses her arms and stoically sits atop her monster friend.]
bulletfool: (39)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-08 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Izumi arches his eyebrows. Well, okay then.]

It's not about respect. Between the two of us, you're the one actually hurting those things. Of course I'm going to leave them to you.

[It sucks to admit that he can't do anything, but come on now.]
forceofnature: (Surprise)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-11 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
((Sorry for the delay! Consumed by the election!))

So what you're saying is...

You're acknowledging that I'm an all-powerful amazing goddess, and you're in awe of my breathtakingly incredible powers?

[Viridi waits patiently for the confirmation.]
bulletfool: (53)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[The only time she's quiet.]

Sure, why not?

[He has no reason to object to that statement in this context.]
forceofnature: (Smug)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-14 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
No - no, you have to actually say it.

The whole thing.

[Viridi continues to wait patiently.]
bulletfool: (09)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-14 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember something that long. What was it again?
forceofnature: (Patronize)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-14 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ughhhh!

You're an all-powerful awesome goddess, and I'm in awe of your breathtakingly perfect powers!

[...]

That's what you say! To me! Not the other one around!
bulletfool: (51)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-14 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[That's obnoxious as hell, and he's tempted to say so when a sudden epiphany springs to mind.

Oh.]

Potato.
forceofnature: (Disgust)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-14 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
What?!!

[It takes her a full ten seconds to realize.]

Gaaaaaah! Wrong! It's too late! I already cursed you! Double curse for insolence! Now it's ten thousand generations!

[That's definitely more than double.]

Oooh, you're really burning me up!

[Foomph! There is a small explosion about 50 meters away in a group of Flamines as Viridi's staff crackles.]
bulletfool: (08)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-14 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that more than double?

[He can't even be impressed by how stupid that is. The explosion does, however, get him back on track.]

Sorry, sorry. What was it . . . ? You're a really strong goddess, and I'm amazed by your powers. That firepower is insane!

[His tone suggests that he's being genuine, in spite of his butchered echoing of the actual words.]
forceofnature: (Laughter)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-14 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ten mill --

[Before she can finish uttering the logical next step in cursing, she will finally be (slightly) appeased.]

Hmph! That's right I am! Nice to get some acknowledgment for a change.

[The various members of the Forces of Nature that had gathered around them turn towards Viridi as she crosses her arms in satisfaction. One gets the feeling they are used to this kind of thing.]

OK! You can all attack now. And I'll cut down that curse to... I don't know. Nine million generations?

Wait, so do you even fight or are you just gonna stand there and watch?
bulletfool: (40)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-15 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
[It's the lackeys for whom one must feel truly sorry. Their mistress must be so tiring to be around.

That absurd number aside – ]

I can, but my attacks don't do much. That's why I want to leave them to you while I look around to see how the others are doing.

That's fine, right? I've already seen what you can do.

[In case she wanted to show off, because she seems like the type.]
forceofnature: (Surprise)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-16 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[shut up they utterly adore her she is the perfect mistress above all others]

What? No, you have to watch me kill at least twenty-five before you leave. After how much you praised me, it's only polite!

[The praise was entirely organic, of course.]

Besides, what if they catch you while you're out wandering around?
bulletfool: (54)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-16 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ok viridi]

"Polite"?

I'm not helpless, you know. I know how to defend myself. How do you think I managed up to now?
forceofnature: (Smug)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-17 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Dumb luck.

[She asserts without a trace of hesitation.]

And being fortunate enough to be near me.
bulletfool: (09)

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-11-17 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
You're terrible.

[She's worse than his squad leader.]

Fine, I'll stay for 25 victories. That's the only way you'll let me go, right?
forceofnature: (Default)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-19 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. Maybe you'll be so enthralled by my awesome power that you'll want to stay longer, anyway.

Up to you!

[it's actually not]

You should be privileged to watch and learn from me.

[And on this note, Viridi commences her reign of destruction. It also seems like an appropriate time for the scene to zoom away from poor Izumi's suffering so he can escape without further humiliation.]
