The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

I am?! [He does not know what that means either, but it sounds nice and youthful enough for him!] I promise to be an ideal boy scout in that case, Viridi-san!

Ah... Yes, that is troublesome! If there were less of them, this would be easier to deal with. But, there are so many!!
forceofnature: (Confused)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-11 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
((Sorry for the delay! Consumed by the election!))

Well, just FYI, boy scouts usually sell popcorn as a hobby, so you should look into that. ...They give it to their friends for free, too.

[Doesn't she already have enough popcorn?]

Maybe I can make some other kind of prison... It would take a while, though. The Lunar Sanctum didn't build itself in a day.
niceguypose: (puzzled)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-13 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Don't sweat it. We all were]

Popcorn? Ah, I will be sure to look into that! It sounds like a lovely and youthful treat!

[He pauses as he keeps on fighting.]

A prison - that could be very helpful!!
forceofnature: (Surprise)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Viridi is now even bothering to occasionally float over and bean an unsuspecting Flamine with her staff every now and then, so it's practically like Rock has a real ally, even.]

Yeah, it would.

So just hold them off for like... I don't know, six months? I could probably do it in six. Maybe eight since the resources are more limited here.

You guys can manage that, right? I've seen you wage war for like, fifty years before.
niceguypose: (drained)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Th-that long?! Ah, I... I apologize, Viridi-san, but that may not be a short enough period of time!
forceofnature: (Confused)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-15 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
What is even the point of relying on humans?

[Viridi sighs loudly as she swipes at air and misses.]

Well, count me out of ideas, then.
niceguypose: (Default)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-16 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I am sorry once again!!

It is alright... We will keep on doing our best and fighting, and I am sure that new ideas will come to mind!!
forceofnature: (Frustration)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, we'd better think faster 'cause I'm already bored of these guys.

[Another sigh.]

Like, these guys in particular. Mind if I give them a send-off?
niceguypose: (da fuck)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-18 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
A... a send=off? [He raises an eyebrow as he struggles to fend one off.]

As long as it does not endanger anyone else, I will gladly accept your help, Viridi-san!
forceofnature: (Smug)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-19 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Wellllllllllllll.

Why don't you do it, then? Go ahead and aim wherever you want, then... scream my name! Passionately. And with pizzazz.

[Viridi smirks and flits back a few feet as a strange light begins to shine around Rock.]

Count of three, OK?
niceguypose: (raging action)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-20 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
YoooosH!

[Rock Lee's eyes widen at the sudden light, but he quickly faces down the Flamines.]

3, 2, 1...

VIRIDI-SAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!

[He cries out as he dashes forward and dramatically punches at the Flamines.]
forceofnature: (Smug)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Fwooooooosh! And in that moment, Rock will feel an enormous surge of energy through his fist as a massive laser beam explodes outwards! Given the divine nature of this attack, it certainly gives the Flamines something to think about as they scatter in the wake of the explosion.]

Nice.

You put so much more oomph into it than Pit usually does. It's nice to hear someone take that part seriously.
niceguypose: (da fuck)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-21 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Rock Lee Laser!! Rock Lee stands there for a moment, transfixed as he beholds what he has done.]

Did... did I do that?! [It was an incredible feeling, particularly given that he is a ninja who cannot perform ninjutsu. It's like the time that Naruto gave him a Resengan to hold. He tears up and smiles as he beholds.]

I will always take an important move seriously! Thank you so much for that power, Viridi-san!!
forceofnature: (Tease)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sure did.

[Viridi finally stops floating to drop to around eye-level.]

This is how we tend to work in my world. When the gods go toe-to-toe, bad things tend to happen. So we have our generals or lesser gods or angels and yes, even mortals, sometimes to fight in our stead. And they get to borrow some of our power.

You can keep that one for now if you want. It's called 'Mega Laser'. If you need it again, just call my name. Recharge time is a few minutes, and if you use it too much, you might overtax yourself and I think you could die since you're a human.

So don't do that.
niceguypose: (sunset tears)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Rock Lee looks down at his own hands in wonder and his eyes widen.]

Ah! So, I still have it...?! I must thank you a hundred more times for this gift, Viridi-san!! Your kindness is too inspirational! [He even starts to tear up.]

Mega Laser no jutsu... I will not forget this important heartfelt move!! ...A-and, I will use it responsibly! [Surely it will be the healthiest thing to have along with his chakra gates.]
forceofnature: (Surprise)

[personal profile] forceofnature 2016-11-23 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't, I'll try to make sure they don't eat your body when you spasm and die.

[Viridi nods knowingly.]

Alright. I'm going to go see if I can do something about this mess. You'll be fine by yourself, probably?
niceguypose: (nice guy pose)

[personal profile] niceguypose 2016-11-23 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[He is mildly alarmed by that first part, but he dismisses it as another of Viridi's odd jokes, and then he nods firmly in response to her question.]

Do not worry, Viridi-san!! I will endeavor, and I will cheer you on at the same time! Let us both do our best! [He flashes a thumbs up to signal that.]
