The quiet of Cerealia is interrupted almost all too suddenly.

Things were broken and not working before, sure, but that was before the sky opened up -- and the clouds part. And then, above the planet, hovering almost innocently...there’s a ship.

The peace only hovers there for a moment.

Because then...then the Flamines come.

There’s a debt they have to settle.

And the time has come to pay up.

We're here.

:)

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ❓❓❓ ] And then the Flamines are there.

They just appear, suddenly, as if from nowhere. They’re a race of mercenary aliens, and fighting is all they know -- they’re definitely not going to be easy to kill by any means. They seem to have a natural resistance to magic: aside from very specific types of magic (in particular, light magic and anything highly spiritual), they absorb it. Light magic and spiritual magic can harm them, but it will take a lot to take one down.

They can be stabbed, if you can get that close.

But good luck.

Of course, they look like nondescript black shapes with masks until you knock the mask off...and then you can see the true shape of the Flamines.

They’re here to kill you all. :)

PHASE II

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if that isn’t enough… it seems the Flamines’ arrival was the last straw for Cerealia and the Nexus Code. There’s a tear in the sky, and from it… the Nexus Code, where all of the lost friends from before, can be seen. It can be entered, even, though remaining there too long can be detrimental to your health.

But people are there.

Old friends, strung up and lifeless, can be seen there, unmoving.

And…

Then some of them move. They open their eyes. They remember how to breathe. And they’re able to return, able to stagger their way back into Cerealia and take their first breath of air in a long, long time.

Welcome back to the chaos of Cerealia, friends.

Unfortunately, you’ve got nothing but the clothes on your back while murderous aliens are rampaging, so hopefully you’re able to think fast. It’d be unfortunate to die so soon after coming back.

As for spiritual and magical characters who were not in the Nexus Code...well, when they return, they’ll find that they’re covered in old, dried blood, and their clothing might have tears in it, as if from a knife.

There are no scars, though, and they’re otherwise fine. Strange.

PHASE III

[ ❓❓❓ ] As if this chaos isn’t enough… there are also the masks. Regardless of whether or not characters were around to receive them the first time, regardless what they did with them before, the masks will suddenly reappear in your characters’ hands. They can be tossed aside, but they’ll reappear again eventually, unable to be truly shaken.

Characters who received them before will receive the same mask they had before.

Characters who didn’t receive them before will receive a mask according to the trait that’s more prominent for them.

Either way...it’ll have a profound effect on the Flamines.

They will go after any character with a broken mask in a bloodthirsty rage, intent on murdering them. Characters with a barcode mask or bloody mask will be the next likely to be chased down intently by the Flamines.

Characters with a :( mask will be killed if they get in the Flamines’ way, though they will not go out of their way to chase them down.

Characters with a vine mask or feather mask will be treated with wariness, though they may still be attacked if they get in a Flamines’ way.

Characters with a grey mask will not be killed unless they are first the aggressor, as will characters with a bloody fingerprint mask.

Naturally there will be exceptions to every rule, but the masks will change how the Flamines’ generally act towards characters!

PHASE IV

[ ❓❓❓ ] But something’s not quite right.

Regardless of the battles against the Flamines, it seems Cerealia’s just been under too much pressure lately. Something had to give --

And it’s the code building up the characters that really suffers.

Their code has been hanging on by a thread without CERES to maintain it, and now… it’s finally giving out. The glitches that afflicted characters before will be even more prominent now; they might glitch from place to place, or have their powers go totally awry in odd ways. There may be a lack of powers suddenly, or a sudden difficulty staying on the ground as gravity stops working on the character.

They might suddenly be unable to breathe, or go cold, or very nearly die --

But it can be controlled, too, with effort. Characters can learn to control the glitches, gaining an ability to almost teleport, or ways to tweak their powers in exciting new ways.

With a lot of effort, they could even possibly reverse a death -- but only their own, and only once.

BONUS

[ ❓❓❓ ] There are also… birds?

Flamingos, to be exact. Who knows where they came from, but either way, there are plastic flamingos chilling all over the place. They’re just normal plastic; they don’t move, they can very easily be destroyed --

But if you touch one with your bare hands… it’ll have an interesting effect.

Characters will suddenly find that they have the abilities or the last person they touched -- but without any of the practice or ability to control it, of course.

Still, it might help with that pesky Flamines problem, right?

Maybe, but that's a really big pain for other people to deal with right now.

[Considering they're all equally focused on the whole Escape From Flamine Mountain thing. He wouldn't want to be responsible for holding anyone up because he literally can't hold onto his vessel, okay, that's just silly.]

Anyway - just as long as you're careful, 'kay? Don't take stupid risks that'll get you hurt for no reason.

[LESSON NUMBER-- whatever they're on by now. Imparting captainly wisdom is a little harder than he'd like for it to be...]
onethousen: (listen | to what you're saying)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-20 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lesson Number Countless and We Stopped Counting Because It's Basically Unending. She nods in response, though she still looks at him oddly. Gesturing to him as a whole with her free hand, before it too comes to hold his vessel again: ]

Has any other part of you stopped being... um. There? Touchable?

[ TANGIBLE but she cannot pull that word out of her hat right now. ]
adornmental: (who wears long sleeves in summer)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-20 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. It's just my hands, and only when I try to pick up my vessel. It's a real pain.

[Putting it lightly... He'll hold his hand out for said vessel though, either to demonstrate how futile his grasp is or to see if it's any better now.]
onethousen: (quiet | tying back the ponytail)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-20 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She offers over his vessel, not letting go (sorry not sorry) as she studies his hand to see if it'll hold. ]

Would you be comfortable strapped anywhere else on you? I still think you'd be better being with a friend. If just for when you can't wield yourself, you might be able to wield other things, and work with them.

[ As someone used to being the Weaker Link in fighting situations, to her it makes sense... but she doesn't have the same kind of pride about these things, so... ]
adornmental: (let's try this again)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-21 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Miraculously, his hands don't just zoop through this time! Kashuu seems pretty hesitant even so, but that's probably unsurprising, given what dropping his vessel could mean. He doesn't want to scuff himself up stupidly, okay...]

I can keep it here- [Pointing to the place at his hip where he usually wears it.] -but I'd still need to find another weapon, yeah.

[Fortunately he's not so hung up on blade pride that he'll mcdie over being stubborn about what to wield...]
onethousen: (quiet | tying back the ponytail)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-23 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's okay. Not everyone just heals over skinned knees or hands or things like that, and swords... don't... so she understands the reticence. ]

Mm. Do you have one in mind?

[ Having no real concept of what weaponry is where unless he wants her kunai in which case Godspeed, Sir, She'll Give Them Right The Heckles To You. ]
adornmental: (III'M TSUNNING IN THE RAAAIN)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-23 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Sadly, he doesn't even think to ask for her kunai... Instead, he's just considering what locations are stocked with kitchen knives, which is clearly his next best bet.]

There are probably some cleavers or butcher knives in the restaurants around here, I think... That should probably work.
onethousen: (determined | how i save a life)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-23 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ Just as sadly, she doesn't offer her kunai.

She instead holds out her hands UNLESS SHE STILL... HAS HIM... TOO whatever she holds out some form of her hand or her hands and says totally straight-faced:
]

Okay. I'll get us there.
Edited (where did the extra d come from) 2016-11-23 06:56 (UTC)
adornmental: (nope!)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-23 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
[It's an extra D for both of them because that's their current grade in the common sense Olympics.

Because LOOK AT THIS, Kashuu's just. Grabbing her hands and nodding like this is a great idea and totally necessary.]

O-kay! I'll leave it to you.
onethousen: (huh | water god ahoy)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-23 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ D is also for Dead which they're lucky they don't end up as? GooD work kiDs! Chihiro nods her head once, expression set into lines of determination. She knows where she wants to go, and between one fuzzy-feeling moment (the warm part is not present, alas) and the next, they've gone from his rooftop excursion zone to one of the many restaurants she helped pig-clean out of food following the first major robotic downfall.

Unfortunately, she transported them on top of one of the metal counters, right next to a shelf and rack of pots and pans that clatter and swing wildly around as their combined sudden presence is enough to Make Things React. Ah, perhaps Kashuu wanted to arm himself with a pan? There's a nice one trying to slam into his arm???
]

Woah! Watch out!
adornmental: (banned)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-23 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ow—!

[TOO LATE, MAN DOWN. Except he's fine, he's just being a whiny baby AS USUAL. He even bats the pan off the rack like the actual spiteful 5 year old he is, huffing in irritation and going back to rubbing his poor elbow.]

That hurt... [No it didn't, don't listen to the whiny baby.]

...But it looks like you got us exactly where we need to be. Good work, Chihiro.

[Now to scoot off this counter and start rummaging around for STABBING EQUIPMENT.]
onethousen: (surprise | the unexpected)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-11-26 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Meanwhile she goes scrambling after the pan Kashuu threw to the ground? Gosh? But really, it's about hopping down and listening for anything else crashing through, like, say, Flamines. They're a slightly more distant roar of activity and aggression, one that doesn't sit easy in her stomach to hear, but... not here right now. ]

Mm! Do you see anything you can use? I think the big knives were over by that back counter.

[ Don't ask how she found those. There were pigs involved. Pigs who anted to eat sharp objects. It was a Day. ]
adornmental: (lazy shit)

[personal profile] adornmental 2016-11-27 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Chihiro needs more of a nap than the rest of them, good lord.]

Yeah, I see 'em! Some of these should work just fine.

[Like this bigass butchers knife?? Except no, he's not used to cleaving, he's used to stabbing and slashing.]

Mmm... Or maybe this one?

[It's basically a jumbo-sized paring knife...]
onethousen: (determined | difficult isn't impossible)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-12-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ someone send her to bed, she refuses to do so most often on her own until she crashes wherever she is at the time being ]

Um... I guess?

... Would something longer be better? You're fast, but I don't know if you want to have to be that close before you can, you know.

[ she feints and steps forward it is the slightly better coordinated version of an actual step so LOOK. SHE LEARNED SOMETHING. about ... swordfighting? (help) ]
