[ Athena had a shift today at the cosplay cafe, and she was really excited about it! It was always fun being there, since she gets to meet a lot of people. Free food was also involved sometimes, and that was the best part.

…

But today was a bust.

She was even excited to talk to customers with a pirate accent, since that was what she was cosplaying as today. A pirate! You just can't have it all.

Instead of just waiting inside for people to come in, she goes out into the street just by the cafe. She wasn't finishing her work today without showing off her cute costume. Holding out her fake sword and pointing it at any person who passes by, she exclaims: ]

It's into the cafe or Davy Jones' Locker, ye knave!

Of course, anyone who works at the cosplay cafe is also free to stop her from possibly embarrassing herself and the establishment. ]

[ It wasn't even that late! It was just an hour or so before sundown, but a police officer robot thing approaches Athena and tells her to go home. She's not even sure why she's being told to do so, when she's not even a minor. Was it because she was little? Whatever the reason, she felt very insulted by this. ]

I'm on my way to buy some food!

[ But the officer seemed very insistent that she should go home before sundown since it wasn't safe. "Look, kid. You better head home before dark, or else you could get in trouble." ]

I'm not a kid!

[ And if it wasn't her stating that she wants to buy food that could catch someone's attention, it's her yelling that she's not a kid, because she can be loud. Now is one of those times.

Again, the officer continues to believe in its own opinion that Athena is much younger than she truly is, and decides to walk her home that very instant, grabbing her by the wrist. But Athena doesn't take kindly to people giving her unwanted physical contact. She quickly grabs the officer's wrist then moves to turn, her back facing the cop, then she crouches as she pulls its arm to throw him to the ground.

… But she may have thrown her a bit too far. The officer probably hits an innocent passer-by or the space very close to said passer-by.

[ Once inside, she finds a table close to the counter. People like sitting close to the counter when they're just taking food out. That's what she's observed, at least. As she holds out a seat to him: ]

Your fifty crepes will be ready in no time!

[ogrepowered]

[ Oh. Huh. That multi-second pause is a little unnerving, and Ogre Magi quickly looks behind themselves to make sure she's not staring at something past them. ]

[ The head with the deeper voice is the first to break the silence, followed by the reedier-sounding hooded head. ]

... I think we're lookin' at another victim of a flying robot attack, brother. Yeah, me too. Guess the shock was too much for her, poor thing. May she rest in peace!

[ ... ]

Ooh, dibs on her stuff! Hey, no fair!

[dishonorstudent]

[ akfvnasb ] --keep it down! They're gonna think we're weirdos!

It ain't a big deal, okay? Senketsu and I are a team anyway.

[ The talk about her being dead definitely sends her back to reality. But, she still can't help but feel weirded out by all this. ]

Hey! Excuse me, I'm still here!

[ She points an accusatory finger at one of the heads. ] Don't talk like that, it's rude!

[psycholawgy]

[ Pokes at Ryuko's forehead. ]

I don't know why this seems to be okay for you, but I guess life is different in your world.

[ ... she'll just ask about this later, because she's pretty curious now. (What kind of shenanigans do people have where she comes from?!) ]

You need lots of iron! And healthier food like veggies!

[ Doesn't react to the prodding, she was already forced to accept that she's not normal not too long ago. ]

I thought you were a lawyer, not a doctor.

It suits you.

[Said in a gently teasing tone! Kaoru gives the building another once-over after taking the menu, not glancing at it just yet.]

A butler cafe? What a strange thing... Though if I'm perfectly honest, I don't entirely understand the purpose of this place, either. [This is said with a somewhat apologetic smile.] Dressing up to serve customers is a novel concept to me. Is it more enjoyable this way?

I'm also a non-licensed therapist.

[ She hums in thought, putting both her hands on her hips. ]

I guess some people like people in costumes serving them. [ If there was one thing Athena was good at was making things up; she'll find a way to support her own statements later on. ] But dressing up is really fun, too. It gives customers and us waitresses and waiters something to talk about.

[ Then she claps her hands together in delight. ] I guess it makes the service more personal!

[ You're a waitress right now!! ]

I need pasta, not therapy. [ Well, that's an outrageous lie. ]

What the- by the gods, she's alive again! It's a miracle!

[ Ogre Magi- the head on the left, at least- stares cross-eyed at the finger pointed right up at him. ]

Huh? No, it ain't rude. Dyin' is a fact of life. Especially when you die to evil flying robots. Hey, yeah, speaking of which, did you see the flying robot that hit us? And what'd it go and do that for, anyway?

[ Frysquint... ]

Sounds like you need both.

[ But that's right. She's not about to get side-tracked. She leaves Ryuko to place the orders at the kitchen, and heads back to the table afterwards. Waitresses were supposed to tend to the customers needs, not just serve their food. And it was highly recommended to make the experience more real if the waitresses communicated with the customers, anyway. She takes a seat across Ryuko. ]

Good news. You don't have to wait long for your food.

[psycholawgy]

[ Thankfully, the robot wasn't broken or anything. It gets up and gives Athena the stink eye before leaving. It'll probably harass her again later on, but she was prepared for it. ]

Oh, that guy? [ Points a thumb at the robot. ] Uhh... he was being a jerk. [ A pause. ] From what I heard, anyway. [ If they didn't see what happened, then she may as well pretend that it wasn't her fault. ]

[ She wouldn't be surprised if Athena added some extra veggies to the order, nor would she be too upset. She's not great at expressing her appreciation, but understands that Athena is only looking out for her, just as Senketsu is. With incomprehensible friends like these, who cares if she has to lose a few drops of blood, if it means she can fight for them?

She nods when she's told about her order, then smiles warmly. ]

Well... at least you're no longer talkin' in that crappy pirate accent.

[ogrepowered]

[ With their extremely potent powers of observation...! Ogre Magi instantly believes every word that comes out of Athena's mouth, and both heads nod in sage understanding. ]

[ ... and they completely miss the robot's stage left exit. Truly, nothing gets past Ogre Magi. ]

Ooh. Yeah, I can see that happenin'. Me too! Only jerks would throw themselves at other people like some... really big thing that throws itself at other people. And murders 'em.

[ There's a thoughtful pause. And then they turn to look Athena up and down. ]

... so you SURE you ain't dead? That robot packed a wallop, you know.

[psycholawgy]

[ She grins, pretty amused at where this conversation is going. ]

I wouldn't be able to keep it up for long. [ And she's proud to admit it. ]

[psycholawgy]

[ They are truly very observant.

Athena doubletakes at the mention of murder, and she's indubitably surprised. Was that supposed to be a joke? She felt uneasy with murder being talked about lightly. ]

I'm fine. [ She says it rather weakly, though. ] If I died, then I wouldn't be here right now.

[ Sure, people couldn't die her permanently... their code would get restored, and they'd be back to the land of the living. It was still all weird to her, but she knew that if she really did die, she would probably be at the research center and not out here. ]

Um, can I ask what you are? [ She could have probably worded that a little better, but she was a bit fazed and distracted by other things in her head. ]

Nobody said you had to! [ She doesn't see the other cafe workers embracing their roles as much as Athena did. ]

[psycholawgy]

Well, I can't just dress up and not play the role. That's why it's cosplay.

[ She rests her elbow on the table, and cheek on her palm. ]

If only people could just take pictures and stuff, that'd be so much fun.

W-Wait, you wanna be photographed?

[ She stifles a laugh as she takes out her Cerevice. Her attention breaks away from Athena for a moment when she cycles through the apps. ]

Lucky for you I'm finally gettin' the hang of this. [ ...Maybe give her a minute. ]

[ Murder and violence... well, they're a pretty big part of Ogre Magi's war-torn world. They've seen their fair share of battles, fighting for the side of the Radiant; it's entirely possible that they've been irrevocably scarred by what they've experienced or, at the very least, desensitized to the horrors of war. ]

[ Of course, going by how casually they're talking, it's equally possible that they're just not smart enough to grasp the implications of death. ]

Well, we can't argue with THAT logic. Unless she died an' got better? Oh! Yeah, that works, too.

[ On the bright side, they don't seem offended by Athena's blunt question. In fact, they swell up with pride. ]

Wot, you haven't seen an ogre before? Well... we're an ogre. But we're not just ANY ogre. We're a two-headed ogre. One of a kind! And that makes us THE Ogre Magi, 'cause we can do ~magic things.~

Not if they don't want their boss yelling at them.

[psycholawgy]

[ Oh, hold up! She stands up, unsheathes her sword and strikes a pose. ]

Alright! Let's do this!

[psycholawgy]

Are you the boss?

[ Athena just can't help but be so confused with the ogre's conversation... between themselves. How can they think that she died and- well, whatever. She didn't want to waste time and convince them otherwise. ]

Never heard of anything like it, not even in books. [ A beat, and she smiles at them and gives them a peace sign. ] I'm Athena, a one-headed psychology expert and defense attorney.
