[By this point, work's become a monotony. It's a way to earn money, and he doesn't bedgrudge it for that purpose, but the forced socialization doesn't suit his tastes and the risk of running into someone he's conversed with - particularly after the events of the previous week - leave him tenser than he usually is.
At least he's an entertaining sight, dressed in his standard uniform of brightly colored apron and hat, sporting one of the flattest looks known to man as he asks:]
What can I get you today?
b - some random thrift store
[Shinji's stay thus far in Cerealia has been unkind to his limited wardrobe. His hat's looking particularly worse for the wear, his pants have small rips in them, and his coat is probably going to disintegrate the moment someone touches it.
Hence, his presence at the local thrift store.
There's not a whole lot on display, most of either not in his size or in atrocious colors and patterns he would never think to wear in public. Like the shirt he pulls out off the rack in sheer disbelief: a lemon yellow, with pink beach balls and blue umbrellas.
Who the hell even thought this was a good idea? And no he's not going to buy it, don't you dare ask.]
c - the cybuddy store
[Out of all the places in Cerealia though, the CYBuddy store is where Shinji's spent the most time of late. His guilt over attempting to sacrifice the things (and in some cases successfully) have led him to return time and again, to offer assistance in the store and give the remaining CYBuddies some proper attention.
It also gives him an excuse not to be social, and to put off thinking about the terrible things he tried to do.
Of course, there's no point in spending time in the CYBuddy store if he's not going to buy anything. There's Mitsuru's CYbuddy to spoil, and since he can't exactly buy gourmet CYBuddy food (does that even exist?) he settles for toys, picking out two and weighing them against each other.
He turns, eyes questioning.]
Hey, you got any idea which of these lasts longer?
[Quality over quantity, yo.]
d - game center
[Shinjiro isn't much for games. Having played only a rare few during his childhood, he'd never developed the fervor for them many of his peers had. That said, the pseudo-game of live action Pac-man he'd played his first day here had been kind of fun. He wanders into the game center one day when it's mostly empty - blame the early hour for that - and spends a good ten minutes just walking down the rows, checking out what there is on offer.
He stops in front of a fighting game and cracks a small smile. Akihiko would probably love this.]
e - choose your own adventure
[ooc: feel free to make your own scenario or pm me for an individualized prompt!]

Yeah, okay, that's probably true, and yeah, there's part of him that thinks that if the store can't back up its claims of top-quality toys then there're worse things than handing over a fraction of his paycheck over a single destroyed toy.]
You got a point there.
[He heads over to the nearest CYBuddy pen, leans down, and stretches him arm to dangle Toy #1 - a pretty sturdy looking rope - over one of the dog CYBuddies. It yanks the thing out of his hand and then gleefully starts chewing.
While he watches:]
You think people ever come in and steal a bunch of 'em?
[CYBuddies, he means, but it's kind of unclear.]

After a moment of staring at the thing, he finally speaks up to answer the question. ]
I doubt there's an easy way to steal these things. They make too much noise. [ And it'd be sort of suspicious to leave the store with a barking coat, right. ] .. unless there's some way to turn them off.
[ But that would just seem.. weird with these life-like animals. Like you're killing them or something. ]
no subject
His attention's momentarily diverted away from the CYBuddies at that comment, lips pursed in a frown. It's difficult to forget that they aren't flesh and blood, but there's still something wrong-sounding about turning them off with just a press of a button or a flip of a switch.
Of course, that brings another question, slightly different but still weird to think about.]
What do these things run on anyway, some sorta long-lasting battery?
[(In the meantime, he notes that the rope doesn't seem to be taking any immediate wear, despite the aggressive chewing.)]
no subject
[ Then again, who knows in this place? It looks like some sort of weird sci-fi movie filming location half of the time, so it might just be some sort of technology he's never even heard of back in his own world.
Even if that'd sure have to be a long-lasting battery - he's never seen anyone having to replace it or anything. ]
.. you seem pretty interested in them though.
[ Even though Shinjiro looks like one of those guys who has a tough guy kind of image.. Heung Soo knows it, he's been there. He still is there, in fact, even if he didn't get a hobo trenchcoat and all for it. ]
no subject
Shinji tenses, eyes widening a touch underneath his mop of hair and beanie. It's there and gone pretty quick though as he crouches back down in order to try and tug the rope back from the CYBuddy chewing on it.
(Easier to hide any incriminating expression that way.)]
Got a friend who has one. She's pretty busy though so I offered to watch over it, but I don't wanna break it or anything.
[Though they don't look to be too easily broken, unless they're dropped from a six-story building or something.]
no subject
I don't think you can break it that easily. [ Yeah, basically that last thought. Even if Heung Soo hasn't tried dropping one off a six-story building, he's not that cruel. ] They're robots in the end. Even if they look real, it's not like they can die.
no subject
It's another minute of tug-of-war with the CYBuddy before Shinjiro manages to yank the rope free, much to the CYBuddy's dismay. It whines and then tucks its tail between its legs and darts off to seek solace in its peers in the far corner of the pen.
Sorry, little guy.
While Heung Soo talks, Shinjiro inspects the thoroughly chewed up rope. It....actually looks just as it did when he grabbed it off the shelf. Impressive. Mind made up, he keeps the toy in his hand for checkout later.]
Some people like that kinda stuff though, right? If it never dies, you can't be sad about it.
[Plants, animals, people....]
no subject
Even if it'd never die.. It wouldn't feel right. [ Whether it's humans or just animals in this case. It's a little philosophical to think of and so he's not talking a whole lot about it since he would just seem lame, but he can at least briefly mention it like this. ]
It might be sad, but it's a part of life. Taking it away would make everything feel fake.
[ And there's already enough fake and weird things in his place. ]
