[ ah. it's a little shameful, maybe, that milla's got to this point. it's been awhile since it's happened, admittedly--it happened pretty regularly when she first started when she was young; while she was experienced with a sword with the four's guidance, relearning it without them meant she was pretty clumsy with the blade of a kitchen knife, too.
that was supposed to be was.
and yet here she is, almost dying, bleeding out slowly, her miserable life flashing before her eyes--okay, no, she's not almost dying. but the cuts on her hands were a bit deeper than she was expecting, and the blood wasn't exactly stopping, so she'd swallowed her pride this once and moved to take action.
... maybe there's some slight burning too when she ended up with some depressing contact with the stove in surprise, but that's of little consequence. that's what she deserved for being distracted, milla supposes. it's ridiculous.
the pain isn't unbearable, but slightly uncomfortable. the inconvenience of not having any healing artes... this really wouldn't be the first time she'd ended up missing undine.
what else can she do but wait? so sit and wait she does, looking around the room and holding her injured hand in the other, the bandaids placed on top of the wounds doing... very little to stop the bleeding. honestly, if the person who was supposed to help her didn't show up soon... she's totally just going to up and leave. ]

It keeps happening like this because he's Jude and doesn't ever say "no" to people even if any reasonable person would. So really doctor's assistant or not he's been doing a lot of actual doctor work lately. Yet he doesn't mind at all of course. It helps keep his mind off things and he can actually feel useful to others and to this world while he's here.
It's a lot of work though and he's still somewhat new to learning the technology here. At least he's catching on quickly on that front. There's surprisingly more patients that come here then he would've expected so he's been running around to help them all. When he finally emerges into the examination room where Milla is waiting he's dressed in appropriate white clothes and looking a bit tired.] Sorry to keep you wai--Milla?
[He stops short, expression nothing short of surprised. He glances at the glowing Cerevice screen in his hand which he's currently using for patient charts and appointments. Well she's not on here so she didn't schedule anything but... When he glances back up he frowns and wow okay look at her hand! What did she do, stick it in a blender???
He hurries over to her.] What happened?
no subject
[ hell yeah sticking it in a blender. but-- there's an expression of surprise mirroring his when jude walks in through the door. yes, considering his personality and history she should've known but from every single person in this facility the one she'd been waiting for had been--
--her life, man, it's hard. and she's also a bit more self-conscious about her screw-up now. what happened? in her distraced state, she super messed up in the kitchen, that's what happened.
but how can she say something like that!! ]
It's--nothing. An accident. [ .... ] What are you doing here?
[ obviously, milla, he works here. ]

Of course now he's the only one available to treat her so neither of them have a choice here so... that works out! Haha... ha.... urgh. This is gonna be awkward.
That aside he does show legitimate concern for the well being of her hand. That looks painful... but she doesn't want to talk about it, clearly. That's fine. Once he examines the injuries a bit more closely he'll probably be able to guess what might have caused it.
For now he closes the Cerevice and pockets it so he can approach her. He drags a stool with him so he can seat himself across from where she sits on the low resting examination table. He chuckles at her question. Really, Milla.......] I got a job here not that long ago. I'm suppose to be a doctor's assistant but they've stuck me in charge of everything today. [And... most days, really. Learn to say "no", Jude...
He holds out his hand to her.] Can I take a look? [He doesn't often ask the patient this--he usually just tells them what to do so he can help. In this case though he thinks it's wise to tread more carefully... and respectfully. He's seen her right hook connect to Ludger's face one too many times to know he doesn't want to be on the receiving end.]

[ too nice... again. she doesn't say this with an accusing tone or anything--it's slightly quiet, like she's just trying to fill in the silence with something. a part of her urges her to be abrasive and push him away again, but with how he'd somehow accepted her in his own way (though she's sure there's still some lingering ??? with that, like there is on her part) and with how complicated things are regarding him in particular... she settles for some awkward distance in her voice.
when he sits down and ask to see her injuries, she doesn't look him straight in the face. it'd be dumb to say no, now that she's made it all the way here and to just walk away with NOTHING....
why did she pick today and now of all times to be a chef disaster.
...... outstretching her hand. ]
Here.

[If it allows him to be helpful/useful then why would he? Besides this is his job here. He's getting paid to do it so he might as well... Not that he really thinks of it that way though. He just likes to help others.
When she offers him her hand he takes it gently, pulling her arm close so he can scrutinize the injury. Well... injuries. The bleeding underneath the haphazardly placed bandaids are most noticeable but he spots the burns too. Nothing dire about this but it is certainly painful looking. He carefully peels the bandaids off after a moment of looking, mindful not to pull too hard. Examining the cuts he starts to smile a little. Ah. He recognizes these types of injuries now although maybe this is less from being a doctor and has more to do with something else.]
I thought you were suppose to be an accomplished chef. [he teases lightly. But seriously, jeez. What happened to being skilled in the kitchen, Milla?
Still cradling her arm gently with one hand Jude lifts the other to hover over the cuts first, a soft glow emanating from it as he casts a specific spirit arte for this kind of wound. He can at least alleviate some of the pain and stop the bleeding this way.] It's not that bad though. It won't take long to patch up.

[ inside she's willing herself not to wince at all, which is easy enough when you've lived your life hitting things with a sword... not that can completely disregard the pain, so milla does shift a bit in discomfort. that, of course, is second to the embarrassment resulting from jude mathis's jabs. like, who do you think you are, huh.
her face reddens at that, honestly. he's figured out her bumbling clumsy mistakes... plus the physical contact, which she's not used to much at all for obvious reasons. the punch-anyone-who-touches-her reasons. not that she has much of a choice here, so she simply settles into the warmth of the healing artes and her neverending embarrassment.
as coldly as she can: ]
The cause doesn't have anything to do with what you're thinking about.
[ yeah okay just try to correct the doctor, she knows this is the most convincing statement in the world (not) yet she goes with it anyway.
she's still not looking at him. ]
no subject
Her reaction to his light jab is about what he expected so he just chuckles quietly.] Well... unless you were around any campfires lately I don't think anything else but a stove could make a burn like this. The cuts are about the right length for a kitchen knife too. [Destroying things with logic, that's what he does. However he's not only a doctor but a chef himself. There's no way he couldn't recognize those injuries right away.
The healing arte fades slowly and he withdraws his hand. The cut look much better and the bleeding has stopped but... that particular arte couldn't do much for the burn. And there's still dried blood on her skin. He'll have to treat all of that too. He pauses though and shows her a faint but still noticeable scar on his inner wrist.] Also... I got a lot of injuries just like it when I was trying to teach myself to cook.
no subject
[ ugh... the deconstruction of her shabby defences with logic and understanding, her weakness. the only form of eye contact he's getting is the slightest glance from the corner of her gaze towards his face and then that scar, before she's back to looking at the whatever's interesting on the ground.
chuckles and teasing and extreme awkwardness, added with guilt that's rising up just by being around him, that's great. ]
... I'm supposed to be past learning.
[ is how she answers, automatically, not even considering the fact that that's basically a confession to her whoopsies. not that she wasn't already aware she was exposed...
she moves her hand in front of her now, looking it over. then she's going to move to stand without even waiting for a response because obviously there's nothing else right?? it's not bleeding so... burns, whatever! she really thought she could do this. apparently not. ]
no subject
Cooking is somewhat of a constant learning experience, I think. [In his experience anyway. He thought he was pretty decent but he learned so much more through Rowen, Ludger and other friends throughout the years. So...
.... Wait where is she going... He stands up with her.] Hey, hold on. We're not finished yet. I still have to put something on your burns and it would be wise to get your arm bandaged too. [He'd healed the cuts up pretty well but it was still a good idea to wrap them up. The burn too of course.]
no subject
she doesn't move any more just yet, but she also doesn't sit back down. ]
It's fine. It was just the bleeding I needed fixed. [ milla just completely used him, and is now throwing him aside. … no, not really, just being in his presence tells her there's lots of things she should say that aren't fair to hide, but things not being fair is kind of second to the fact that saying these things frankly scares her.
so then she's stuck thinking about how it's not fair to him, so obviously avoiding him is the fairer thing. obviously.
still, there's something she forgot to say. her eyes shift to the wall again, and then, mumbled: ] … Thanks.
no subject
Still it was probably unwise to let this go entirely.]
Don't mention it. [He... was honestly just doing his job, haha...... but no, he'd help her any time she needed it. He doesn't know how to get that across without her just assuming he wants to help her because she looks like someone else. But her thanks is appreciated mostly because he sees it as a positive step in the right direction for creating whatever friendship they're trying for here.] Just hold on a second.
[She seems intent to leave so he crosses the room quickly to rummage through the medicine rack in the corner of the room. There are many strange looking medicines he doesn't even recognize in here... which clearly means he needs to find a library and start studying. This world is so different...
He returns to her with a small tube of cream in his hand. It's nothing fancy but it's ointment that she'll appreciate later when her burn starts to cause skin irritation.] Here. Use these for your burns. They'll make them feel better but more importantly they'll heal a lot faster with this. You can use it for as long as you need but make sure to wash your arm first before you apply it. Use cool water too. Anything too warm might make it hurt.
[She might already know some of this but he's fussing now. See, Milla, if you had stayed you wouldn't have had to deal with his worrying here.]
