![]() Did you think the glitches were over? Boy, were you wrong! Through the last remnants of the digital kerfluffle, the latest batch of recovered code has manifested in CERES' computer systems as the guilty parties. Yes, that's right, all incoming arrivals are now placed on the wanted list, accused of having committed the heinous crime of creating and releasing the gorg0n virus all over Cerealia. These vicious twelve have been working together all along and conspiring against CERES, and it's now up to everyone to figure out if the new arrivals are truly guilty or if they are as innocent and confused as they claim. In the meantime, CERES has dispatched assassination droids to stop the accused and bring them to justice via disembowelment. So while CERES rushes to stop the droids from committing murder, characters are perfectly welcome to a.) soil themselves b.) fight off the droids c.) run while soiling themselves or d.) cry a lot. e.) ask for assistance!

Edgeworth thinks for a moment, and then shakes his head.]
No. What I was doing was...admittedly far stranger than being knocked out. It may sound incredulous, but I was preparing to return to my home world from another.
no subject
Yeah, incredulous is putting it lightly. You were stuck in a place like this before?
no subject
Correct, strange as it may seem. That world wasn't as technologically advanced as this one, however.

It's a long story, but he takes a deep breath, and is ready to accept that this other guy is going to think he's spouting nonsense. Then again, the fact that they were all here in CERES now was certainly not nonsense.]
That world was built more on magic and supernatural elements. It was one such magical device that was responsible for bringing us to Death City to answer the wish of a young death god. His wish was to end an ongoing war against anarchic magic users known as the witches, and in a way, we were enlisted to join his army - or if we chose not to, we could live quietly as civilians and rely on everyone else to protect us.
We were granted powers as well to help us fight...powers I still have now. The war had ended and the device could finally send us home...and that was when I found myself here instead.

[ Another way to say "probably complete BS", but from the way Elliot peremptorily assesses the man's solemnity, he — wavers somewhat in his previous convictions, fingers beating out a tattoo along the hilt of his sword.
As far as he's concerned, he's forced to confront insanity at face-value is just another reason to hold CERES liable for every indiscretion he's experienced since his arrival. ]
What sort of powers did the death god give you? It could have been some cheap parlor trick if it helped you save that world.
no subject
It wasn't by my efforts alone. Many others, stronger than I am, contributed. As for my powers...I have amplified persuasive speaking. I can command any entity with a soul to do as I say, bend them to my will. Not only that, I can take the energy of my soul and use it to attack - to damage my enemies.
[Edgeworth opens his palm. Electric blue sparks jump from one fingertip to another in a merry dance of light and crackling sounds. No, he isn't about to use this on anyone, especially not Elliot.]
no subject
But he wouldn't have lived as long as he did if he didn't keep his caution gauged at a healthy level of tacit doubt and begrudged resignation, because the more he finds out about other worlds, the less he understands. But if Edgeworth can find some sort of rhyme and reason to anomalies that fall beyond normal human understanding, then all the better to elucidate with. ]
So if I have this right: you didn't have this power before, but your — [ WELL, he isn't about to say death god ... ] leader — bestowed it on you, and you were able to retain it even after leaving that world.
In the wrong hands, it'd undoubtedly cause mayhem and havoc.
[ A mulling pause ensues. ]
Call it naiveté, but you don't strike me as the type to abuse power. I don't understand why CERES would allow you to keep something so powerful with you. Did they tell you anything in particular regarding your past experiences when you first arrived?
no subject
[Edgeworth sets his jaw grimly. That has happened at least once. But his expression relaxes slightly when Elliot tells him that he doesn't seem like the type to abuse power. He would be right...and at least Elliot doesn't see him as a crazy taser maniac.]
No, they did not. But if it helps, I am only at my most powerful when fighting with another. Our powers were made to be used in partnerships.
no subject
[ IT'S JUST REALLY GREAT Edgeworth doesn't seemed to be hyped-up on becoming some unwieldy tyrant, because judging from their current state of affairs, it wouldn't be difficult for him to usurp CERES's governing power. ]
So ... your power synchs and grows when you've got help, huh. That goes without saying.
Were you able to meet anyone from that place here?
no subject
He shakes his head.]
Not yet. However, I've encountered a stranger who seems to know me.
[And he doesn't know her. Wat.]
no subject
[ He's met a lot of people in the past, it wouldn't be impossible for Elliot to come in contact with someone whose face he couldn't quite recall.
But the fact that it occurred on some alien planet?? MAYBE IT'S A CLUE to unraveling this elaborate charade of BS the people running this charade cooked up ........ ]
no subject
[Integra didn't try to bug him endlessly about it so perhaps it was just how crazy alternate worlds were.]
