![]() Did you think the glitches were over? Boy, were you wrong! Through the last remnants of the digital kerfluffle, the latest batch of recovered code has manifested in CERES' computer systems as the guilty parties. Yes, that's right, all incoming arrivals are now placed on the wanted list, accused of having committed the heinous crime of creating and releasing the gorg0n virus all over Cerealia. These vicious twelve have been working together all along and conspiring against CERES, and it's now up to everyone to figure out if the new arrivals are truly guilty or if they are as innocent and confused as they claim. In the meantime, CERES has dispatched assassination droids to stop the accused and bring them to justice via disembowelment. So while CERES rushes to stop the droids from committing murder, characters are perfectly welcome to a.) soil themselves b.) fight off the droids c.) run while soiling themselves or d.) cry a lot. e.) ask for assistance!

This whole situation is already a giant pain in his ass, and he scowls as he glances up at the screen again. ]
How the hell should I know? I didn't put them in there! I just follow orders.
[ Correction. He follows orders from Mother. Not those bastards in CERES who can never seem to get anything right lately. ]
It's not like I wanna arrest a kid, but I got to make sure first you're not up to something bad.
[ But considering she doesn't even know what the words "mafia" and "crime lord" mean, he's inclined to think she's innocent of all charges. ]
So out with your confession. Did you do it or not?
no subject
[elle really doesn't want to be arrested, but she really doesn't know how to prove she's not whatever that wanted poster says she is. she wonders if she should have just ran and hid when she had the chance...
but it's a little late for that now, huh?]
If you arrested me for that, wouldn't you be as stupid as the person who said I'm a criminal? [especially considering that powerpoint aside, she's been here for like. 20 minutes.]
no subject
It's never a bad idea to be extra sure, especially if he lets her go and she ends up running the colony's biggest crime ring. ]
'course, I'm listenin'! I'm just makin' sure here. You could be puttin' on act. How would I know? We just met.
[ Though the other crimes on that board were kind of strange. Hers seems relatively normal by comparison, leading him to think that they really might be fake. ]
If you're really no crime lord, then what are you? I don't see too many kids around this place.
no subject
[the first rule of dimension traveling is to spend as much time as possible trying to fit in. things get really annoying when they figure out you're not from that world...
elle hasn't really totally made the connection that this isn't like her normal circumstances with this business, though. she just knows this isn't any place in the prime dimension for sure, and it's not canaan. so for now, she's just doing what she thinks she's supposed to.]
no subject
[ It's like going to school. You expect to see teachers and students there. When they're not there, it's completely suspicious. The fact that this place is absent of a lot of kids bugs the hell out of him. What could they be doing with them?
He's not sure he wants to know at this point, but it doesn't look like this girl is guilty of anything so far except just being brought into this place like the rest of them. She can't really help it -he understands that much. No one chose to come here of their own will. ]
Anyway, if you're just a kid, where are your parents? Didn't they come with you, or did they really drag you all the way here without them?
[ That's pretty cruel. How do they expect her to look after herself and get any credits here? She's way too young to go into that ViViD-thing. ]
no subject
the sassy veneer drops, and in that instant, her gaze averts. if she looks upset? well, it's because she is.]
...I don't have any parents. [her voice is much smaller now than it had been while she was talking back to him, and it really can't be helped. these are pretty fresh wounds, especially since the only familial figure she has left is a pretty big part of the puzzle... though she has yet to see him since she got here.]
no subject
He shuffles awkwardly before rubbing the back of his head. ]
Not even siblings or anything like that? Foster parents? Teachers? There's gotta be someone lookin' after you...
[ She's way too young to be on her own, especially in this place. ]
I don't know if I saw any orphanages around here, but what's your plan? No kid should be wonderin' around the streets like this on her own. I'm a cop, too, so it's not like I can leave you like that.
[ He'd seen plenty of kids orphaned by the war and had felt an unequivocal pang of anger towards those Byakko bastards every time. Hopefully CERES isn't just another version of that. ]
no subject
[her first instinct is to tell him about ludger; he's the closest thing she really has to any of that on a normal basis these days. but elle finds herself hesitating for a plethora of reasons that leave her a bit conflicted.
it's probably a bit too much conflict for an eight year old to bear on her own, but as far as she's concerned, it's not like there's anyone she can really tell about it. the nature of the situation had been complicated and confusing to begin with. couple that with being in a new and unfamiliar place, and she's shaking her head. she won't spill the beans entirely just yet.]
I'm looking for someone. [someone else, the person she'd been with right before getting dragged into this mess. elle's not sure if it would be better to find him, or just default to ludger, but she thinks she needs to stick to her guns.] Or... I was, before I was being framed for things I didn't even do.
no subject
She may be a brat, but he's not going to just leave here around in the midst of all this mess. ]
Who's this 'someone'? You got to give me more to go on. There aren't that many people from other worlds, so I might have run into them already.
[ He remembers when they first arrived and were all that fair, so it's possible this 'someone' of hers is lingering around somewhere... if they're even here at all. It's worth a shot looking for them. ]
What do they look like, at least? I'm good at rememberin' stuff.
no subject
when he asks for the description of bisley though, she hesitates for a moment. it's a slight crack in her veneer; as much as she can be a bratty, boisterous kid, she isn't without her own set of problems that ground her.]
Well, he's really tall... taller than you, I think. [she has to crane her neck a little more to look at him.] And he's pretty scary looking sometimes.
[probably because he's so tall, or maybe because she knows how much power he has. she can't really gauge that he's just intimidating but generally amiable to other people; professional more than anything else.] Oh, and he was wearing a red suit... a really expensive looking one.
[it won't be til later that she finds out he isn't here, but the closest thing she has to family is. but that's just another topic she avoids for now.]
no subject
What is he supposed to do in this situation? As much as it pains him to think of him, he does try and imagine what his captain would say in regards to all of this. That guy's a total pain, but he's not heartless, so he'd probably order the little girl to be brought back to the magic school or some kind of safe haven.
That's it! He can get her to her apartment, and she can stay there for the time being. ]
Oi, they gave you a place to live, didn't they? Everyone got one when they got that card. It's supposed to unlock the door. Maybe you can hole up in that place till that guy shows up?
[ And if not there, he guesses he can put her up in his own, but he doesn't know if Leanne would like another mouth to feed, especially a bratty one like hers. ]
no subject
sucking in a breath, elle steels herself. she has to stay strong, right? everything will work out somehow, because it has to. there's just no other option, as far as she's concerned. for a moment, she thinks back to what happened earlier before nodding.]
Yeah, they gave me stuff. But they didn't explain anything very good at all. [considering she only has a vague understanding of the situation. after a second, she'll pull on the straps of her backpack, letting it slide off her shoulders before she rummages through it to pull out the card she was giving.] You mean this thing, right?
no subject
[ As far as he knows anyway, so at least she won't be alone. She'll likely be just a couple of floors away or something in case there's some kind of emergency. It's better than leaving her to wander around aimlessly and without supervision. That would weigh a bit on his conscience.
He glances around to make sure they're not having any unexpected visitors before motioning with his head the direction he plans to go. ]
Just follow me. I'll take you to the place, and maybe you can use the device they gave you to try and find this tall guy of yours.
[ It's the best solution he can think of at the moment, and a pretty sound one, if he says so himself. Captain better appreciate all that thinking he just did. ]
no subject
[she may be eight, but she's got her pride. she knows how to use the ones back in her world... these look pretty different, but since it sounds like it does just about the same thing, she thinks she can mess with it when she's in a safe place. or... a safe enough place.
there's basically a 200% chance she's going to go back out when she fails to find bisley or doesn't immediately get in touch with ludger, but she's not dumb enough to say that out loud when it would probably just make a bigger issue. she's traveled alone to unfamiliar places before, so even if she wants to protest it... well, she doesn't really mind a little help. in the end, she'll be appreciative of the efforts, even if a lot of her words right now don't necessarily seem it.] And you're sure you're not gonna lead me anywhere weird, right?
[at this point, she figures he won't. but her father conditioned her to be pretty wary of strangers, so it's hard to help.]
no subject
[ He's completely trustworthy here. The greatest risk they have is in him getting them lost really, but he's got a map of the five districts on that device. He's sure he can get along with it. It even has a positioning system built in so he knows just exactly where he is and which way he's going, something he wishes he had while they were hanging around the Milites territory.
He shows her his badge just to make it clear he's one of the good guys here and not like those questionable people working for CERES. After one too many slip-ups, there's no way he's going to let his guard down around them. ]
Come on. Let's get movin'. I'll take you straight to the apartment building.
[ And just in case that billboard's telling the truth, he'll know where she's hiding out. Total win-win situation here. He's mentally patting himself on the back. See!! He doesn't need someone like Queen to always do all the thinking for him. He's good at coming up with stuff, too. ]
no subject
...So I was just being careful. You don't look like any cop I've ever seen, you know? [despite the slight sass to very voice, she still does look a bit sad as she says it. her father's advice isn't something that's going to leave her anytime soon, not when she hung onto his every word for most of her life.
he may not be around anymore, and a lot may have happened... but he was still her father. elle's argument sort of deflates after that, though. maybe should shouldn't trust that he's a patrol officer, but it's not like she has any clue where she is or where to go anyway, so it kind of corners her in a sense. she'll nod, ready to follow along with wherever he leads her.]
no subject
[ But Class Zero isn't here outside of one of his classmates, making that a very moot and useless explanation at the moment. Hey, at least he has a uniform of sorts on. That has to count for something, and he totally has a trustworthy face. Just ignore all the scars and all... ]
It's the job they stuck me with, but even if I wasn't, I wouldn't leave a kid standin' around here on their own. You don't know what's lurkin' around.
[ He may not have caught any criminals so far, but it doesn't mean they aren't out there, robotic or otherwise. She'll be safer if she sticks with him, and it's just a short walk to the apartment complexes anyway. ]
Let's go, kid. I don't got all day here.
[ He starts walking, expecting her to keep following because there aren't a lot of people lining up to guide her here. ]
no subject
still, he doesn't need to be so curt about it! or so she thinks, but it's not as if elle herself is always the most courteous in situations like this. in any case, she'll follow behind... trailing by a bit.]
You know my legs are a lot shorter than yours, right? [she can only go so fast here, even if he doesn't have all day. keeping pace is kind of a challenge from both the length of her legs and the fact that she's already pretty tired.]
no subject
He looks irritated for a moment before turning around and crouching down so he can give her his back. ]
Come on. Climb on. It'll be faster this way. Bet you hardly weigh a thing anyway. Probably don't even outweigh my lance.
[ He jerks a finger towards his back, indicating that he'll just run with her mounted there. ]
Don't worry 'bout hurtin' me. I'm tough, you know!
no subject
[there are totally conditions to this promise, so she's staring at his back with her arms folded. she knows he probably won't and that he's just trying to get rid of her faster... she's not his problem and she isn't wanted.
she gets that, so elle knows she probably also shouldn't drag it out, but she still thinks it's better to be safe than sorry. and maybe she doesn't really want to admit that she's tired enough to actually want that sort of treatment.]
no subject
[ He's not moving from his spot, still waiting. He's like three times the girl's height, so what's she afraid of? He's always been pretty good with physical stuff, so he wouldn't trip over his feet or let her get hurt.
And he's sacrificing himself to help her. The brat could be a little more grateful to him. He doesn't have to carry her or care about her well-being or any of that. He just doesn't want it to be on his hands if something does happen to her. If he makes sure she gets somewhere safe tonight, he'll actually be able to sleep more soundly. ]
no subject
[it's not that she doesn't appreciate the help, it's really just that she can't help but handle things with a sense of self-preservation. she's been in a lot of dangerous situations before, she was taught pretty much from the get-go not to trust people who encourage her to go with them without good reason....
and, well, she's still a scared eight year old in a strange world, having just been pulled away from an important, life-altering decision. she's bratty for sure as a result of being spoiled rotten before things got crazy, and it's not easy to turn that off.
she'll show it at some point, but she's not the best at this. for now? she complies with his request, latching on tightly enough to indicate that she's a lot more scared than she's letting on. sure, she puts on a brave face, but elle's not as fearless as she's acting.]
no subject
[ Talk about whiny. What a brat. Either way, he's a man of his word -most of the time. He keeps her hoisted up on his back and carefully runs with her towards the apartment complex. Though the weight does start to get a little cumbersome after a while, he continues to hold onto her and run with all his strength.
Hopefully, this kid will find some way to adapt here or maybe even find someone she knows. He'd feel much better knowing she had someone around. It's not easy, and at least, she can hold onto her memories like most of the people here. He hasn't met anyone yet who's affected by crystals outside of him and King come to think of it ...
Ah well. First thing's first. He's getting her to her new place and get her settled in. ]
