[It's noon and Shirou's busy reading one of those thick text books everyone hates. Law is serious business! Suddenly a red pendant falls out of his pocket. He grabs it as quickly as he can. No one saw that ok. Shirou returns to his seat, but then he notices Heung Soo. They haven't spoken in a while so it takes him a second to recall that.]

Hm, haven't we met before?

[He sighs and wonders if Heung Soo remembers him. ]

[ Honestly, Heung Soo doesn't remember Shirou that easily.. it's not like they talked a whole bunch before. And he's sort of distracted to begin with - he came here with half-hesitant feelings, after all. Heung Soo figured that if they're going to be stuck here anyway in this.. weird unsettling place, he might as well make a start on catching up with his study material if he even wants to stand a chance of ever making it to college back home.

But before he can even try to see if there's anything that can help him with it, there's Shirou.. and he just frowns at the other guy for a few moments while he tries to recognize him before it slowly clicks. ]

[ That's the best you're going to get though, Shirou.. ]

I guess. Did I leave that much of an impression? [ With eyebrows like yours, Heung Soo? Always. ]

Yeah, I mean. I spoke to you on the first day I arrived here. Lots of things happened since then.

[Bullshit ghosts and weird arcana effects...why.He shrugs once. Heung Soo looks healthy, but that's as far as appearances go.]

Are you doing well? [The least Shirou could do is check up on Heung Soo after all this time. Even though he gave up his ideals he still concerns himself with others too much.]

[ Lots of things.. tell him about it, man, he's so done with all these "lots of things". Just let stuff stop happening already.

He doesn't really do all that well with the usual pleasantries though, so there's a half-reluctant nod at the question if he's doing well.. whatever, this place is wearing down on him, but if he already didn't feel like discussing this shit with the teachers at his school back home, he sure isn't going to do a lot better with talking to a stranger about it. ]

As well as anyone does here.

[ ... ] Are you seriously studying?

Fair enough.

[Well, that's perfectly understandable. Shirou isn't going to talk about his problems to some random stranger too because that's an odd concept for both of them. Neither of them will discuss their lives in front of each other mfw.]

Oh yeah, I'm studying law and politics. [He shows Heung Soo his REALLY FAT law text book. ]

I thought it might be nice if I studied hard enough and got a decent job. Are you studying too?

[ YEAH HE WAS.. THINKING THE SAME THING, ACTUALLY...

But admitting that out loud feels weird. Especially when he's nowhere near on the level of these kind of textbooks.. ]

Law and politics? [ Is Shirou secretly some genius or what. ] Aren't you aiming a little high?

[It's quite the opposite tbh. He can be rather dense at times but he's still studying this shit regardless of that.]

Sakura will be the one who suffers if I don't set my goals high.

Is it bad that I want to study normally even though we're in danger? [He enjoys his student life too much he doesn't want to give that up even if this place is hella weird.]

.. no. [ He'll at least admit that much.. especially since he'd feel too bad shooting down Shirou's sentiment entirely when he was debating doing the same thing. Especially since there's a person he doesn't want to let down either, even if that person isn't in this place with him. ]

Sometimes it's quiet. Then it's not too bad. [ Not too bad of a time to study, he means. This place is still bad as a whole since even silence makes things feel more paranoid.. ] Do you need to catch up on your studies?

[ Is Shirou another member of the underarchiever gang or what. ]

I do, actually. I couldn't attend school for a while because of some personal reasons. [He won't say what happened now, but use your imagination. ]

There's a lot of work I need to do now. Can you help me out with this case? I'm having some trouble with it.

[ Yo, Shirou, talk about being stuck in similar situations.. although Heung Soo never really left school as much as his attitude just changed so badly thanks to personal reasons that he just couldn't be assed to deal with school for three years.

Not like he feels like saying that out loud though. Especially since Shirou is asking him something so weird that he actually looks a little puzzled for a moment. ]

You expect me to solve law stuff? [ WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE.... ]

There's a lot of information here. You'd be doing me a huge favor by helping me sort it out.

Do you need help with your studies too?

[ Sorting things out, he means.. look, he's got years' worth of studies to catch up on here, he doesn't even know where to start by now.

So instead he plops down on a seat opposite of Shirou's for now, peering over at his materials. ]

What exactly do you need help with? [ Might as well see if he'll be inspired for a good starting point that way without having to admit anything out loud about that last question. ]

[Shirou gives Heung Soo a description of the case and what he's working with. The explanation is fairly simple but it's obvious where the problem is. It's like a case for beginners, Heung Soo shouldn't have that much difficulty following along. #aalawisntevenreallaw ]

So I haven't figured who the real criminal is and I think I'm missing something.

What are your thoughts?

[ YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED, SHIROU.. Heung Soo is not exactly a genius. In fact, he's not even really average - maybe without his three years of missing most school work he would be average. But for now, he's not.. that great..

So even though he does listen to the problem, he just.. frowns a little. Like he's thinking. He really is thinking, okay, it just doesn't go that easily. ]

.. don't they say the criminal usually returns to the scene of the crime, or something like that? [ That's all he can think of.. his brains weren't made for law-related stuff, okay. He only has dumb movie bullshit knowledge. ]

[Shirou can at least understand the frustration that comes along with not being able to solve much. He's frowning as well and this is going terribly.]

If you're going to follow that line of thought then I have to review the case again. Maybe I need to approach this from a different angle.

[Law work...why is it so hard? Shirou stops talking for a moment and tries to figure out what's going on with this case. ]

I found a new suspect.

Isn't this person suspicious? He doesn't exactly...have an alibi. [And he returns to the scene of the crime. Good job Heung Soo.]

[ He did something right, hallelujah.. thank god for movies, clearly this is the kind of knowledge he needs to use to do a little better in school, huh. ]

Of course people without alibis are suspected first. [ OH BOY, DOES HE KNOW ALL ABOUT THAT.. Park "always suspected first" Heung Soo, honestly. It's probably why he makes sure to add the next part-- ] Don't just blindly assume though. Accusing an innocent person's a pretty shitty thing to do.

[Heung Soo just needs to go full ace detective.]

I don't want to pin the the blame on someone innocent or make incorrect judgments.

Finding the right solution is the hardest part. If this was a real court the judge might be angry at both of us by now.

That's why I'm not a lawyer.

[ Nor is he ever going to be one, bless everything... seriously. If he were Nam Soon, he might just have put his head down on the table and fell asleep by now. ]

I don't want to be one that badly. [It's the truth. Even if he somehow fails at law and politics it's okay. He's got Sakura and that's all that really matters. He'll just find some other job in a related field and hope he can support her that way.]

What kind of job do you want?

[ That's a good question, honestly.. the only answer he can provide is "not his current one", basically, but he instead pauses for a brief moment before answering. ]

Something that's enough to support me. I'm not picky. [ Especially not since he can't exactly be picky anymore in his current position. He'd be lucky to be able to go to college at all at this point, let alone a good school. ]

That's it? [He just blinks twice and stares at Heung Soo for a second. ]

That's...a simple wish. I hope you can find something that can support you in the future.

It's being realistic. It's not as if I'm going to become a doctor or lawyer anymore.

[ There's no way he could manage that with his kind of grades.. most people work their ass off to be able to get into good universities during high school, and he's definitely missed his window of opportunity for that right there. ]

As long as it's not too bothersome, anything is fine with me.

You might want to look into getting a desk job. They'll hire you if all you're looking for is something you can use to support yourself. [A desk job doesn't sound too tiresome either.]

[ There's a small sigh. Yeah, he doesn't sound too enthusiastic about it, but-- ]

It's probably where I'll end up.

[ If he's lucky, anyway.. that's the only sort of thing he'd still be able to make a decent living with if he'd study. ]

I'd rather open some sort of shop or something though.

What kind of shop would you open up? Have you thought that far yet?

Why would you help with that? [ It's hard to see if Heung Soo is actually asking how Shirou could or why Shirou would to begin with, but he sure does seem surprised.. who just tells that to someone they've only met twice? What are you, some sort of shounen hero? ]
