Where: Beat and Rhyme's apartment
What: Rhyme comes home to a surprise
Rating/Warning: None
Beat had sent her a message asking her to come home straight from school. Rhyme had wanted to drop by the library and get a head start on her weekend homework, but that simple message had her abandoning the idea, and heading straight for their apartment instead. While such a request shouldn't be odd between siblings, Beat had never asked that of her before. It was also unusual for her brother to be home before her. Rhyme worried, and wondered what was going on.
I'm on my way home. Is everything OK?
She reached their apartment without receiving any reply. It made Rhyme nervous, but she told herself that Beat might have just missed her message. If she really wanted to get his attention, she should have called him instead. But it was too late for that now; she was already home. Letting herself into their apartment, Rhyme half-expected to find Beat waiting for her inside. Instead she found a large box on their kitchen table, the symbol on its side making her eyes grow wide. The young girl excitedly ran towards it, and found a note that simply said "For Rhyme."
"Beat!"
If he wasn't in their kitchen, then he could only be in one place. Rhyme carried the box with little difficulty towards her brother's bedroom, and knocked on his door with her foot. Without waiting for a reply, she let herself in and approached his bed. As she'd guessed, Beat was in bed, taking a nap. And Rhyme would normally be too polite to wake him up, but she was so excited about her gift. She set the box down to next him, and gently shook him awake. As Beat's eyes opened to look up at her, Rhyme beamed down at her brother.
"Beat, you shouldn't have!"
