//event011.EXE The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy. Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! //SCENARIOS.EXE PHASE I [ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you. PHASE II [ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken. PHASE III [ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house! PHASE IV [ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. )) BONUS [ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless. [ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

[ Just a familiar face or two? Would that make it real? Maybe that's why Mireu still treats everything like one big joke, because none of his dear friends from back home are here with him to enjoy the destruction of their world. Something, by the way, that he hasn't really accepted as having happened. He's willing to believe what's happening immediately around him is real enough, he might even be willing to believe he's not on his world (given some of the things he's seen, it's hard not to), but he's not quite ready to believe everything he sees here.

Like the creatures in the mirror, for example. Not his idea of fun, but not something he's taking as seriously as he probably should.

And whether Haru meant to accuse him or not, Mireu's still flashing a wide, toothy grin as he spreads his arms out like he's a ringmaster at a circus, presenting the whole event to the audience. ]

[ His voice is way too loud for this time, confined space. ]

I'm the one that loves being stalked through the halls by mirror monsters! Or maybe...

[ Dropping his hands now. ]

I'm just saying it for the sake of arguing. Who knows? Maybe there really are people who get their kicks from things like this.

[ A slow nod at that. ]

If nothing else, some people just enjoy being watched.

[ Maybe not by monsters though. But some people sure do love attention......... ]

[ in truth, even with familiar faces, haru will only believe with time and as that belief settles deeper, the more unnerved he will be by it. he has not yet run into rin matsuoka -- whose sister will then be markedly absent -- nor has he seen others who will wind up being here in strangely timed coincidences. but the absences will drive home the darker edges. for haru, whose home is a quiet, solitary place anyway, it will be more about the relations of friends than anything else, and the friends he cannot find at all: nagisa's knowing look, rei's curiously uplifting acuity. laughter therein. a world where neither of these has been recovered doesn't bear thinking of, doesn't bear accepting.

the bodies in the beginning, running, dodging he doesn't remember what, had faces.

he decidedly does not recall them.

having spaced out, haru only blinks back into focus in conjunction with the volume of the stranger coupled with the grand gesture. it fits the funhouse theme like a twisted carnival but not the size of its mirroed halls, not the weird sounds still echoing both too-close and in the distance, and further still, christmas songs. too strange. he decides he does not believe this person, at least not in regards to being 'figured out'. in his minimal social experiences, anyone who says that in such a way doesn't mean it, and while there's exceptions to rules, haru doesn't get the impression that this is one of them.

to the point of arguing for the sake of arguing though, a flash of annoyance is finally present on haru's face, a little subverted frustration also airing its presence as he says evenly,]

Waste of time, [and then,] why bother?

[not waiting for an answer, he turns to leave, almost runs into a mirror, steps back, and tries again -- the one direction he knows he did not come from. it's the last words that have him pausing again:

some people just enjoy being watched.

for a split-second, haru can't see. lights that aren't there blind him and there's the unreliable buzz of a waiting crowd.

the same blink of time later, he's back to himself, but the pause was probably obvious.

not that he cares what he looks like to anyone, much less someone he doesn't know.

i don't care he insists as he rubs the back of his head... and almost means it.]

[ It's a hell of an experience... entering the game for the first time. Of course, Mireu's personal experience was a little different. Tailored for the holiday, full of overly excited werewolf puppies, and vampire pandas lecturing about the dangers of tax fraud. It was a nightmare, but for a very different reason. At the very least it made for a less jarring entry into this world.

It definitely made it easier to immediately slip into this showboating attitude of his. And it's a damn shame that Haru doesn't seem to appreciate the effort he's putting into coming across strong right now, but he's not planning on letting go just yet. For one thing, he has no idea how to get out of here himself, and there's no reason not to follow this guy into the funhouse until they both manage to escape.

Though... maybe he's wrong about that?

The pause is definitely weird, definitely noticeable. Mireu squints at the mirrors right in front of Haru, moving closer to see if he can see anything Haru might have noticed in them.

Nothing. Just their own warped reflections at the moment. Not even a distorted creature staring back at them. He looks down at Haru, raising one of his impressive movie villain eyebrows. ]

Problem?

[it's the redhead in his too-close-for-comfort peripheral vision that jogs haru further out of his daze and he shakes his head with the brevity of a blink. ]

No. It's nothing...

[another pause, but this one is shorter and he starts walking again though he has to stop almost immediately, confronted with another dizzying set of funhouse mirrors and shadows.]

How--

[do we even get out of here he lets it hang in the air even as he impatiently walks back the way they came and adjusts his course just a little. it gets them a little farther anyway but oh right...this time when haru speaks he keeps walking,]

Why are you following me...

[it occurs to him there is probably only one way out but somehow it still bears asking. apparently, however, asking a person's NAME is off the docket.....

if we thought haruka nanase had better manners than this, we were wrong.

but we didn't really think he did anyway. really.

maybe he asks also because of the weird presence this stranger has -- some of it having to do with all that effort, not utterly lost on haru but certainly wasted since he just doesn't care. but not caring and failing to observe don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. on the edge of superficial pondering, he has time, even, to wonder if the hair is natural...]

[ How is such a broad question. It could be what Haru meant for it to be "how do we get out of here?" or it could be "how are we seeing these monsters?" or even "how are you so unbelievably charming?" a question Mireu asks himself every day, but has yet to come up with a proper answer for. He just is.

Oh? What? It definitely wasn't that last one? Well, Haru's missing out by not focusing on something important like that.

At least his second question (said more like a statement, Mireu's noting that) is fully formed, and comprehensible. Not that the answer Mireu is gonna give him is gonna be any better than his answer to any of those "how" questions would be. \

Why not? Four eyes are better than two.

[ Though, maybe not in this place. It's hard to tell which way is which with everything reflecting off itself like it is. ]

[the sound haru makes as a response is some sad cross between 'hn' and 'ah' but it's so mumbled that it might be completely missed, no matter how close mireu is following. someone else might complain about proximity of strangers and others still might agree congenially and say something like 'that's true'. haru just figures if he wants to follow, then who is he to stop him? no one; and he doesn't feel like the effort would be worth it...

a sharper turn brings them to a deadend and an especially Picasso inspired mirror; it breaks their images apart in ways that seem to try puzzling them back together in symbiosis. perturbed more than alarmed barring any other dalliances in the dark, haru stops abruptly and this probably results in mireu running right into him but a deadend is just not his fault.]

[ OOC: 1. Hey! No worries at all, these kind of things happen, and I get it too with games that do big log intro posts it's kind of nice to be able to jump on them while they're still young. Speaking of young though, I'm definitely up for continue to thread for a few more rounds until they end up getting separated in this funhouse of terror if you're fine with it, but since this post got a little bit... big I can toss something up on Mireu's inbox a little later tonight if you'd like? Or if it's a little overwhelming I can just hit up that post or log you put up later.

2. And ahhh, man you don't have to thank me for that! Your Haru has been a lot of fun. I like brick wall characters a lot, and rp a few myself, so it's always fun for me to be able to rp the obnoxious one that harasses the strong silent types in turns. ]
