The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares

It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy.

Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! (Or try and sneak into the rides -- then face the wrath of the snowman robots and their snowman firearms :D)

PHASE I

[ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you.

PHASE II

[ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken.

PHASE III

[ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house!

PHASE IV

[ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. ))

BONUS

[ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless.

[Man this guy is getting really worked up about it.]

You're not really showing it off if I'm the one asking to see it, right? And how about this, you give me a hint about what it is. That way you don't have to show it to me. And I can sate my curiosity a little.

Okay?

[That... that sounds still mortifying, but slightly more bearable than outright displaying the contents of the box like he was proud of them. He chews the inside of his cheek for a moment before he starts nodding.]

I guess that's true, but. Okay, I don't-- um, it's things that someone or uh, two people, might use. In a bedroom. For adult activities.

[Yogi isn't happy about playing this type of game, so he's focused on not looking at anything in particular while he talks, either.]

[As they say, curiosity killed the cat. And Hide's curiosity borders on lack of self preservation at times. This isn't one of those times, but he still regrets it all the same.]

You...Santa gave you...[His cheeks heat up even as he's struggling not to laugh.]

...I guess you were serious about it being something private.

[Yogi can feel the color in his own face getting worse; this is truly the worst time he's ever had with receiving a present.]

That's right, the robot gave me... things like that! I never asked for it!

[He shakes the box as he talks to emphasize his point, and quietly, then far, far too loudly, the box begins emitting an agonizingly awful buzzing sound, vibrating slightly in his hands.

Yogi looks down at the box, then at Hide, then back at the box before he wordlessly takes off running, heading for a trashcan across the plaza. He has every intention of returning, it would just be rude not to, but there isn't time to say that and if he doesn't get rid of the box immediately he feels like the ground might as well just open up and swallow him.]

I didn't think you asked for it. That would be pretty weird, wouldn't it?

[It's even weirder that the Santa Bot had thought that anyone would want a gift like that. Well, perhaps some people would, but not most.

When the box begins buzzing Hide gets a pretty good idea of exactly what it is the man has. But before he can even so much as blink, Yogi is breaking into a run.]

Hey! Wait up! This is nothing to run away over. I won't tell anyone.

[He begins to give chase despite it being difficult to run and cackle at the same time.]

[Yogi absolutely does not want to stop long enough to explain that it's not that he's worried about anyone being told. It's that he can in no way handle a conversation while the box is vibrating, and he can't just casually reach in and turn the stupid thing off, either.

He at least takes a moment to call over his shoulder.]

It's not running away! It's trash disposal!

[When he finally reaches the trashcan, he all but slams the present in, then skips backwards far enough to where he can't hear the buzzing anymore. That makes him feel better than he would care to admit.]

Fin-- finally. No more of that.

[Yogi's response just makes him laughter harder. Man this guy is a riot.

And really desperate to get rid of that thing.]

You know, you could keep it and give it to someone as a gag gift! It is the Christmas season, after all.

[And it's in the trash. There goes that ~~incredibly helpful~~ idea.]

Do you feel better now?

[He knows it's not really mean-spirited laughing, but Yogi can't help but lean over, resting his hands on his knees; it's more out of embarrassment than being winded, but he exhales sharply anyway.]

I would never, ever give something like that to someone, even as a joke.

[After he recovers himself a bit, he straightens back up, smiling slightly, though he hasn't managed to quite shake the blush from his face.]

I do feel better, actually! Um, still embarrassed, but now that I don't have to deal with that anymore, it's not as bad.

Why not? It's just a bit of fun.

[He understands that dirty humor isn't for everyone. But he doesn't understand why some people get so uptight about it. It's just a bit of fun, right?]

You shouldn't feel embarrassed. I mean, you couldn't have known that the Santa Bot would play such a joke.

It's not my kind of fun! Eh, well, the whole situation is embarrassing, even if I really didn't know that all of that was going to happen. I am glad to be done and hopefully nothing like that will happen again.

[He pauses, and then runs a hand through his hair.]

Oh, and... sorry! For running away like that.

Fair enough. Well, at least you know now not to hang around Santa-bot and accept anymore of his gifts.

[Hide grins and shakes his head.]

Don't worry about it. I just didn't want to lose you before I got a chance to introduce myself. I'm Hide.

That's right, no more Santa-bots for me.

I'm Yogi! It's not how I usually end up running into people, but it's still nice to meet you, Hide!

I would be a little worried if this was how you usually met people.

Hey, have you played any of the games yet? That's where I was headed when I ran into you. You want to come with me?

Ahaha, you're right, that would be terrible. Um, anyway...

The games? I haven't gotten to look around that much yet, so I haven't seen them yet. If you need someone to go with you though, I'll go!

Alright, let's go! I saw a ball toss game the first time I passed through that area and it looked really fun.

[Hide had been in a hurry to try out the rides at first, a fact that he regrets now. From here on out it'll just be tame games for him.

He begins walking in the general direction of the game area of the park.]

[He is more than happy to avoid any more attractions, so happily following along is no problem.]

Oh, I can do those types of games! I love winning a bunch of prizes, it's the best!

I take it you're really good at those types of games?

[Hide is decent at the ball toss. Most of the time. He's no athlete, but he doesn't necessarily play just to win prizes. Sometimes he just likes something to fill up his time.]

I'm not too bad; I've had a lot of practice playing them, is all. Most of the prizes end up going to other people, anyway, but I do like to keep them here and there.

Hm, except the shooting games are impossible, those are way too difficult for me. I can't hit anything!

It's nice that you give your prizes to your friends. I have this friend, Kaneki, and he's always been hopeless at these games. I usually ended up giving him my prizes just so he wouldn't feel too bad.

Really? I'm the best at those!

Well, I always collected different stuffed animals, so it would've been selfish to keep the ones I won for myself, too. Really? That's pretty nice of you! It sounds like you're a good friend.

Yeah? I tried before, and I couldn't hit a single thing. It's way too tricky for someone like me, I guess!

Really? What type of stuffed animal is your favorite? I had this stuffed rabbit as a kid and I used to carry it around everywhere. [He chuckles and scratches his head, bashful.] You think so? He just always looked so sad when he missed a target...

Nah, I can teach you!

Nyanperona is my favorite! He's a yellow cat and has horns and fights evil, he's the best. Um, but they probably don't have him here. He's still my favorite though! It doesn't feel too good to miss, so it's nice to be thought of even though your aim is poor.

Can you really? That'd be great, I'd be really grateful!

Well, we won't know if we don't look. Even if they don't have him, they might have a different one that's just as cool. Yeah, I guess so. Have any of your friends been brought here, Yogi-san?

Yeah, of course. It'll be easy.

I wouldn't mind adding new stuffed animals to my collection; I do have to start over, after all. Mm, yes, my friend Gareki is here with me! He can be a bit grumpy, but I'm very grateful that I have someone from home with me, too.

I'll do my best!

I know what you mean. Back home I have a huge collection of music, CDs and digital. But all I've got now is what's on my MP3 player that came with me. [He wonders if he'd be able to find replacements for all the CDs he's lost here. What if they have completely different types of music?]

That's good then. It makes this place a little friendlier seeming when you have a familiar face around. Besides, grumpy people are the ones it's most fun to tease. [Although something tells him Yogi might not be the type to find amusement in such a way. Hide can teach him that too.]

It's all in your aim. Of course, you've got to be quick too so you can get as many targets as you can. But if you're more worried about your speed than your aim, then you're already in trouble.
